The newer DVC resorts vs the older DVC resorts rooms

And all the same. That's why they theme the resorts differently.

I totally agree...and the rooms look super tired. Our 2 bdrm lockoff last October 2011 was such a disappointment (dirty, nail clippings, smoke smell). UGHHH...yuck. We were sad since we had bought a BWV contract sight unseen since we LOVE epcot. Oh well. Guess we can still use it for food & wine.

I really wish DVC would do a change out on all of the bedding/spreads to mirror the hotel rooms. The first thing we do is peel off the bedspreads in all of the DVC rooms and stuff them in the closet. Its so gross.

Aulani has the cute minimal bed quilt instead of the spread, with clean linens underneath. Very modern and very clean.

Lil....how are the lock-off's set up? We are thinking about going next year with my parents, but my wife wants her privacy. Can the lockoff be shut to provide two seperate areas? Is it just like a connecting rooms at a hotel?

Yes. There are two doors that make up the Connecting doorway. You can lock one from your side and your parents can lock the other from their side. Both must be open to go through the doorway. So it is just like the connecting room set up at a hotel.

For the BWV, the connecting doorway is in the living room of the 1 bedroom side and near the balcony of the studio/second bedroom side.

I don't get the whole decor "issue" thing... Yes, it's a timeshare and your points constitute an ownership share in a property (or properties in some cases), but at the end of the day it's still just a hotel. No one (at least I think) is ever going to live in a DVC villa full time. The decor at BWV and SSR is not my thing. Will it deter me from staying at either resort again? No... I don't really care if the colors clash or I don't like the pattern of the bedspread. As long as the room is clean and in working order, I'm good with it. I have had no real complaints about any of the rooms I've had at AKV-JH, BLT, SSR and BWV. They were clean and everything worked. We have been lucky and only had one or two small maintenance issues and they were corrected very quickly and efficiently.

Could the pool at BLT be bigger? Sure, but I've never seen it so crowded that I couldn't find a spot to relax... Could they do something to the BLT pool in the summer to lower the temperature so it doesn't feel like bath water? Probably not, but I'd love it if Disney would take a shot at it...

Hampton Inn? No, I disagree with you. Hamptons and Hilton Garden Inns, and others at that level always seem to have "lumpy" 'duvets'. I don't care for them. Now a duvet like at a Hyatt, Westin, or newer Sheraton, then yes I would take that over a bedspread any day. They just seem cleaner. The only bedspread I don't actually mind is the AKV one because it is so festive, it's definitely not boring!

I've been told by higher ups at Disney that the bedspreads aren't washed after every guest leaves. I know that is industry practice to not wash them. I wish I wasn't in a situation a few years ago where I was told this by Disney Let's just say, if things aren't washed after every guest leaves, communicable things can be spread.

I agree with other posters that BWV just isn't my taste right now. The older version looks better to my eyes.

Everyone has different priorities. I'd really like duvets as well, but I get value out of other things at DVC, And decor is important to me...but I'm willing to put up with an ugly room if I'm getting something else I value more. I wouldn't decorate my house in any DVC style...then again, my house is barely decorated, it's a train wreck of kids stuff, gifts from my mother in law, furniture I can't get rid of because it was inherited.....

DVC rooms have been refreshed, but the fundamental decor really hasn't changed at any of the resorts (the current bcv couch is way better looking than the first monstrosity, the theme and colors are really similar to the original decor though). If decor is really important to you, buy a resort where the decor is acceptable and book it...if no DVC decor is acceptable, don't buy DVC.

This is what I mean.... I cannot beleive someone deceide that the bedskirt matches the bedspread....

I think that people who take hotel management or hotel decorating courses are taught a whole different concept of decorating than home decorators do.

No kidding... they give me the heebiejeebies... As soon as we get into the room and take pics I took it off and shove it in the closet...

Before I became a DVC member, our trips revolved around the parks and we spent very little time in our room. We were one of those families that would visit a park from open to close. No resort dining. No pool days. Although we wanted to stay at deluxe resorts, we never fully appreciated our resorts' amenities.

So, now, flash forward a few years to DVC membership. Now, when we visit, we do not feel pressured to see everything and spend 12+ hours in the parks. As a result, the resort itself has become a greater priority. We now have breakfast in the room because of the kitchenette. Coffee pick-up from the quick service restaurant and strolls through the resort grounds are commonplace. Also, pool time has become a must. All this being said, for us, it is important that the resort be an extension of the park, allowing us to get lost in its storyline and architectural beauty.

Although I do not want to start an argument on this discussion board, having seen all 8 deluxe studios at the Walt Disney World Resort (including the slight differences between Jambo and Kidani), I will say that the room décor is better executed to fit with the overall resort theming at just a few of the resorts. The others feel more traditional with some Disney décor touches.

If you are looking for full immersion in a theme and will be spending more time at your resort, then the smaller things, like finding Simba in a window sheer, become more important.
