Ladies and Gentlemen,

My name is Fred and I would like to take this time to welcome everyone to the latest and greatest installment of the Wilderness Lodge FAQ! I have the great honor of being the one to start the next in a long saga of threads dedicated to information about Disney's Wilderness Lodge Resort. Inside you will find a wealth of information from many people that have already stayed once and in many cases numerous times. We call them "Wilderness Lodge Vets".

So pull up a seat and get ready to read. There's always something happening.

Imagine yourself sitting in a rocking chair in the corner of the Majestic (had to add that one!) lobby in front of the fireplace. The soft western music playing in the background lifts your spirits after a long day at the parks. You grab your refillable mug and take a long sip then sit back and soak in the view all around. Suddenly your gaze is directed towards the Whispering Canyon Cafe as the latest sucker...ahem....person is tortured for asking for ketchup.

This is the place we call home. What better way to keep it in our thoughts than to share our experiences with each other.

So, without further adieu, I present to you, The Wilderness Lodge Vets and our friendly FAQ.

I would like to take this time to ask the vets to post all the information from the first few posts of the last FAQ thread. These first few posts are the traditional staples of information that have been passed on from thread to thread.

STANDARD ROOMS: All Non-Smoking rooms with 2 Queen Beds.
Located on Floors 4,5 & 6. On the North(MK) side, they face the service area. There are also 4th floor rooms that overlokk the lobby and look out to roof peaks. Lobby rooms do have balconies.

WOODS VIEW: These rooms are located above the front desk on floors 5 & 6. North side woods view rooms are on floors 1-6 and face the "otter pond"(a handful face MK). Floors 4,5 & 6 above Whispering Canyon are Woods View Lobby rooms.

COURTYARD VIEW ROOMS: Courtyard view rooms can be located on top of the lobby, down the south corridor facing the falls/pool or facing the villas. On the North side, courtyard rooms overlook the falls/pool or at the end of the hallways, facing the lake.

DELUXE ROOMS: They are at the end of the hallways and are considered non-specific views. They can face Courtyard or Woods.

CONCIERGE ROOMS: All are located on the 7th floor as well as the Vice and presidential Suites. Views vary!

HONEYMOON SUITES: are located on the 7th floor above the front desk and above Whispering Canyon.

ACCESSIBLE ROOMS FOR SPECIAL NEEDS: Most are located on the 1st Floor Villa side. There are also some on the North side 1st floor. There is 1 located on the 6th floor(lobby room) above Whispering Canyon. All accessible rooms at WL are King Beds, so if your party is larger than 2, a 2nd room is added at no additional cost(if booked through the special needs dept.)
*Seeing eye/service dogs can be accommodated in any of the rooms, but depend on the person's abilities...as to whether or not they need a handicap accessible room specifically.

WELCOME HOME to the Wilderness Lodge & Villas

Disney's Wilderness Lodge and Villas Resort

The Wilderness Lodge and Villas are nestled in a dense forest of pines on Bay Lake, accessible by waterway from the Magic Kingdom. The Lodge and Villas were inspired by the U.S. National Park lodges built in the 1900s.
Wilderness Lodge and the Villas offer varying accommodations, ranging from 350-1072 sq. feet. The Lodge houses 728 guest rooms and suites, with some encircling the cavernous lobby but most in the two wings. The cozy Lodge rooms are outfitted with pine furniture and quilted bedspreads. Most Lodge rooms have two queen beds, but some offer a bunk bed in place of the second bed. The Villas feature 136 studios, one-and two-bedroom suites, each with a kitchenette or full kitchen, VCR, and washer and dryer.

Questions Asked at Wilderness Lodge:
What are the advantages to staying at the WL?
Located in the Magic Kingdom Resort area, the WL is a themed resort unto itself. Many folks feel they could stay at the Lodge their entire trip and still have had relaxing vacation with their money well spent.
Is there a Wall Safe located in the rooms?
The rooms do have a small safe in the closet to store valuables. It's big enough for your plane tickets, cash/travelers checks and maybe some jewelry, but not much more. For storing larger valuables inquire at the front
What time does the geyser erupt?
The geyser erupts every hour on the hour from 7:00a.m. until 10:00p.m.
Are there towels available at the pool?
Towels are available at the pool by the pool bar. They are also located by Hidden Springs Pool at the Villas
What time is the Electrical Water Pageant?
The Electrical Water Pageant is nightly at 9:35p.m. on Bay Lake. (Note: May be canceled due to inclement weather.)
What about shopping?
The large Wilderness Lodge Mercantile in the Lodge carries Disney themed clothing, sundries, camera supplies, postage stamps, beer & wine, foodstuffs, newspapers, and souvenirs.
Are tours of Disney's Wilderness Lodge available?
A unique tour, called the "Wonders of the Lodge," is offered to guest on various days beginning at 9:00a.m. This guided tour provides an informative look at the history of Disney's Wilderness Lodge, including its distinctive construction, theming and artwork. Please call the Front Desk for the schedule of the tour days and availability. (Guest should meet in the Lobby of Wilderness Lodge.)

What activities are available at WL for children?
On select days Wilderness lodge has programs for children: Duck Races on Upper Silver Creek, Pool Games, Fireside Storytelling, (Meet in your pajamas at the Mercantile Fireplace) Beach Games, Penny Toss & Duck Rings.
(Daily 3-4 p.m. @ pool)
Daily Activities: Open Crafts and Games in Cub's Den (free)
Children must be accompanied by an adult. 2:30-4:00pm
*For good rainy day activities, ask for a Kid's activity/coloring book at the bell station or a list of Hidden Mickeys at Guest services. You can also get a list of the resort's music at the Mercantile shop.
Explore the resort:
Indian artifacts, historic paintings, and survey maps are displayed. Follow Silver Creek from it's indoor origin as a Hot Spring and onward outside as a bubbling brook and waterfall, eventually making it's way to Bay Lake.
Flag family:
Ask about becoming a Flag family. Each morning a family is selected to go on the Lodge roof to help raise the flag! This is popular, so inquire at check-in for a better chance.

Cub's Den:
Children's Entertainment Center

TRANSPORTATION:

You can take a direct Boat or Bus to the Magic Kingdom. Boats also ferry you to Ft Wilderness and the Contemporary. Buses take you EPCOT, Disney-MGM Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, and the water parks.* To reach other resorts, go to the Magic Kingdom (daytime) or Downtown Disney (evening), and then transfer to a resort bus. Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge share many of their bus routes, so travel to and from Fort Wilderness is quite convenient.*

Boats:

As many know there are two separate boat routes that serve Wilderness Lodge:

New transportation routes for service between Wilderness Lodge and the Magic Kingdom: November 2007
While the following new routes are still temporary they will be made permanent soon.

The Blue Flag Resort Boats Run continuously between the three resorts (Wilderness Lodge, Contemporary Resort and Ft. Wilderness Campground) there are at lest two of these smaller boats that run clockwise around Bay Lake. Always check with the boat Capitan as to which resort the boat will be headed for next, this will save you some time by not riding to say Ft. Wilderness if you want the Contemporary. The operating hours are 6:45am-11:30pm

The smaller Blue Flag Motor Launches Resort Boats holds appx 30 guest are open to the elements and require a guest to transfer from wheelchairs to the boat with a step down. (strollers also need to be folded)



Red Flag Resort Boats hours of operation are from 1/2 hour before park opens until 1 1/2 hours after park closing.

The larger Red Flag Boats operate between The Wilderness Lodge and Magic Kingdom only. There are two boats that run between the Lodge and MK continuously, on the day I took the new route we had one large Motor Cruisers and one smaller Motor Launches serving the Wilderness Lodge with FWC having two larger Motor Cruisers.

The Red Flag Motor Cruisers Boats Holds appx 150-200 guest. Guest traveling in wheelchairs or ECV's have access without transferring from chairs and strollers may also be left open and rolled directly on board. Note:There is a Warning posted on the dock that states that due to water levels access to wheelchairs /ECV's may not be able to load. (thus the Direct Bus access between Wilderness Lodge and the Magic Kingdom) In over twelve years of visiting Wilderness Lodge I have never seen anyone in a wheelchair or ECV ever not be able to board. Most of the boat is enclosed with AC in the summer and Heat in the winter.

**Please note that if the Red Flag Boat being used is a Motor Launch the same boarding restrictions will apply for strollers, ECV or wheelchairs.

Because everyone seems to question the Bus Service @ Wilderness Lodge I’m going to attempt to post my experiences during my many stays at the Lodge:

The Bus Routes:

Magic Kingdom/Ft Wilderness Campground Busses:

This bus stop shares busses that travel to the Magic Kingdom (Direct route to and from Magic Kingdom) and a second bus that travels to Ft Wilderness Campground this bus goes to the Settlement Depot. (Pioneer Hall/Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue Show) You may ask the driver which location they are going to before boarding.

*Note: The Direct Bus runs between Wilderness Lodge and the Magic Kingdom until after the Magic Kingdom closes then reverts back to the old route to TTC so depending on when your trip is and when the MK closes this could be another option to travel from the Monorail Resorts to or from Wilderness Lodge after normal park hours.

MGM Studio Bus:

This bus arrives @ The Wilderness Lodge first, and then travels to Ft. Wilderness Campground the Settlement Depot. Using this back route the bus doesn’t travel to the front of the Campground (Pioneer Hall/Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue Show) this extra stop only takes a few minutes.

Returning from MGM the bus travels directly to The Wilderness Lodge then continues to Settlement Depot.

EPCOT Bus:

This bus arrives @ The Wilderness Lodge first, and then travels via Vista Blvd. to Outpost Depot at the front entrance of Ft. Wilderness Campground for guest staying at the campgrounds. This may take up to an additional 10 min.
Returning from EPCOT the bus travels directly to The Wilderness Lodge then continues back to the Outpost Depot.

Animal Kingdom/Blizzard Beach Bus:

This bus arrives @ Wilderness Lodge first, then travels via Seven Seas Drive to the Grand Floridian to board guest, then travels to Blizzard Beach then Animal Kingdom.

Returning from Animal Kingdom the bus stops first @ Blizzard Beach for guest returning to the resorts. Then goes on to Wilderness Lodge followed by the Grand Floridian.

Downtown Disney/Typhoon Lagoon:

This bus arrives @ Wilderness Lodge first, and then travels via Vista Blvd. to Outpost Depot at the front entrance of Ft. Wilderness Campground for guest staying at the campgrounds. This may take up to an additional 10 min. the bus then proceeds to DTD’s Marketplace, Pleasure Island, West Side then Typhoon Lagoon.

Of all the busses this route always takes the longest wait & travel time. This route has to travel in areas with heavy traffic that is off property at times, so please keep this in mind when you take it. I have also heard that this route may also not go to Ft. Wilderness but shares with the Grand Floridian.

*NOTE: With Disney’s On Demand Service Bus Service the routes may change at anytime, during Peak and Off Peak Seasons the routes may also be changed. The above routes I have posted are the routes that have been used on 99% of my visits to the Wilderness Lodge and The Villas @ Wilderness Lodge. I have also encountered new bus drivers that have taken creative liberties with the routes and correct order of each location.

You will arrive to your destination think of the bus ride as an adventure your children will.

Jogging:
Jogging path extends about a mile to Ft. Wilderness.
WL & Ft. Wilderness Campground Trails
Kids Activities:
Game room, kiddie pool, and Cub's Den themed baby-sitting service for kids ages 4-12.

At The marina I was referred to the new Disney Premium Plan that when booking this package offers unlimited use of the boats and bicycles, so for now no more Captain or Family Plans. I will note this information but as they have discontinued these plans before they may bring them back. If you are interested in either of these plans please check at the Marina for current discounts. As for now they have a 10% discount for DVC members and a 15% discount for AP pass holders

WILDERNESS LODGE-ROOM RATES & GUEST ROOMS

Disney's Wilderness Lodge is a majestic reflection of the famous National Park lodges of America's Great Northwest. This Deluxe Resort features a spectacular pool area with water slide, white-sand beach, and a complete array of dining and recreational options.

About 37 Lodge rooms with King beds double as the barrier-free (handicap-accessible) rooms and have a large shower with no tub.

* Note there are more then 37 rooms with King size beds, So yes there are regular King size bed rooms with full baths.

*Posted by HLAuburn We were upgraded to a courtyard from a standard. We were assigned one of the illusive king rooms with a tub (4129). Great location, great view, nice room, no complaints whatsoever.

It was right next to the Sunrise Terrace, just up a floor... directly above the creek as it exits the lobby. The room had a standard tub and it was wonderful to get up and look out over the courtyard and bay. It was our honeymoon... and the room was perfect.

*Posted by TJMICKEY We were in room 4073 and even though this was a lobby room, we never were bothered by any noise at all.
The rooms are absolutely beautiful, we had a king room (not a handicap room) and it was plenty big enough for the 2 of us. The bed was very comfortable and there was also a comfortable easy chair and ottoman in the room.

As of June 1, 2007 all rooms at WDW are Non-Smoking.

STANDARD-TWO QUEEN BEDS (sleeps 4) Guest Room amenities include in-room wall safe, voice mail, hair dryer, iron/ironing board, coffeemaker and refrigerator.

DELUXE-TWO QUEEN BEDS & ONE SOFA BED
The Deluxe rooms have now been upgraded to Club Level (Concierge) they sleeps 6. The Deluxe Guest Room has a sitting area separated from the bedroom by french doors, additional television, refrigerator with ice machine, coffeemaker, and wet bar. All Deluxe Guest Rooms feature woodland views.
Other guest suites are also available

I found the following information posted by a Wilderness Lodge expert (trust me this poster knows The Wilderness Lodge and the Villas) adding it to our information as it's very informative.

orignally posted by HumphreytheBearThere are actually 25 "Deluxe Rooms" (Junior Suites) They are 1000, 1003, 1166, 1169, 2000, 2003, 2123, 2166, 2169, 3000, 3003, 3123, 3166, 3169, 4000, 4003, 4123, 4166, 4169, 5000, 5003, 5123, 5166, 5169 and 6123.

All of these rooms do offer a connecting option that would be a room with 2 queen beds or a room with one king bed that is either woods or courtyard view. Rooms X000 are the rooms in the North wing that are at the very end of the hall on the left corner, Contemporary side they are Lake/tree view, X003 are the 2 doors down on the right corner with a pool/lake/tree view rooms X123 are halfway down the south wing in the left corner overlooking the pool/lake/geyser. Room X166 is the room at the far end of the south wing on the left corner with a lake view and rooms X169 are 2 doors down on the right corner also with a lake view. Rooms 2123, 3123, 1166, 1169, 2166, and 2169 have "doormer balconies, due to the design of the building these rooms have brick on the balcony railing so you can not see out unless you are standing up (if you sit you see brick), just FYI.

Concierge @ Wilderness Lodge Old Faithful Club Lounge

I have been requested to add a little information on Page 1 describing Concierge and the procedure's for guest that are thinking about or have already booked their first concierge stay at Wilderness Lodge.

You will receive an E-mail or phone call from the IPO Staff shorty after you book concierge. (These staff cast members aren't located at Wilderness Lodge but will be your first contact.)

So you have all your ADR's, special gifts, and room request done and it's time for your Trip.

If you arrive by personal/private car at the Wilderness Lodge the first contact will be the security gaurd at the entrance. You will be required to show a photo ID (required for any arriving guest) notify the guard that you will be a Concierge Guest then drive to the main entrance you will be met by one of the Concierge Cast Members who will escorted you and your group to the 7th floor. You will by-pass the check-in line in the Lobby, but you must be escorted to have access to the 7th floor.

When you arrive, if your room is ready they may show you directly to your room to freshen up and get settled in...before going back and checking in. If your room isn't ready you may still check-in and enjoy the lounge and food offerings.

The Legend of Humphrey Bear and his MAGICAL NOSE.

Humphrey is located in the Lobby and is the Mascot (an animal, person, or thing adopted by a group as its representative symbol and supposed to bring good luck) of The Wilderness Lodge and the Wilderness Lodge Vet's Legend is that if you rub Humphreys Nose at the start of or during your visit to WDW you will be favored with DIXIE DUST and you will have a MAGICAL STAY.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON HUMPHREY AND WHY HE IS IN OUR HEARTS:

One our most loved VETS was a sweet gentleman named Roy Car aka FloridaCat he loved Humphrey and always posted to rub his noise so the Magic could begin. We vets also make sure to say "Hi" to Roy our dear friend when we all visit by rubbing Humph's nose.

This Wilderness Lodge FAQ Thread is dedicated to Roy Carr and his Memory because he was very instrumental in making this and the previous 4 WL FAQ threads the great threads they have all been. He posted weather reports for the WDW area every morning as he lived very near the world. He was our Wild Wacky Wonderful WL Weatherman the title was even bestowed to him by the DIS-Tag Fairy.

We have a separate thread over on the Community Board Humphrey’s Home because we all became such good friends and loved to chat, the DIS Moderators thought we needed to keep the FAQ Thread open for questions and answers just on the Lodge and information about the Lodge. WILDERNESS LODGE LAYOUT

Upon entering the massive front doors, you will find on your left public rest rooms, Whisper Canyon Café, The fireplace and then to Artist’s Point. You then descend down a wide ramp hallway to the doors to the courtyard. Turning left you will find Roaring Forks Food Court, Public Restrooms, elevators and across from the elevators is Guest Laundry.

Back at the main entrance, turning to your right will be the Bell Service desk, behind them is a small room where the Meeses can watch Disney Movies while M&D are getting checked in.
Then along the right wall is the check in counter. At the end of the counter is an INFORMATION CENTER where you can pick up maps and time sheets for the parks. The CM will give you a packet with Wilderness information and a Lodge activities sheet. Continuing along that wall is the elevators.

Going down the hall at the end of the check in counter is Mercantile Gift Shop, across from them are elevators. Then there is the Arcade room and Cubs Den. Going out the doors takes you to the bus terminal. There are signs informing you where each bus will stop and where it is going.

BUILDINGS:
For the sake of clarification I am naming the buildings LOBBY, NORTH WING A, NORTH WING B, SOUTH WING A, SOUTH WING B. With the A buildings close to the lobby and the B building connected to the A buildings; towards Bay Lake. The North buildings are on your left facing the lodge and South buildings on your right.

Rooms are numbered “Floor-Building-Room”. An example is 6008 is sixth floor, north wing, room 8. 6108 is sixth floor, south wing, room 8.
Even room numbers are to the outside and odd numbers are rooms towards the courtyard side.
Room numbers are somewhat confusing as in the North wing, room numbers are ##6 to ##00 from the lobby towards the boat dock. They are the opposite in the South wing, ##60 at the end and ##00 at the lobby.

NORTH BUILDING, WING A: Outside is all Standard View overlooking the service area parking lot. This is where all deliveries are being made to the Lodge. This would work if you are only in the room to sleep. During the day there is a lot of activity of trucks making deliveries. The view is not distasteful; it’s the truck traffic during the day.
Inside rooms are Courtyard View in the general vicinity of the Waterfalls.

NORTH WING BUILDING B: Outside is Woodsview and is very quiet and private. We enjoyed it very much and would request it on future trips. We had a good view of Otter Pond, while we never saw any Otter’s there were plenty of Ducks swimming and Rabbits having dinner. The MK fireworks are very plain to see and my estimation is rooms 5012 to 5032 had the same opportunity as well as the same rooms on 4th and 6th floors. Rooms #008 to the end of the building are blocked by two large trees to view MK and to far from Otter Pond to see except a small end of it.

Courtyards views on the inside offer a fantastic view of the pool area and are somewhat noisy until the pool is closed for the day.

NOTE: If you are in the South wing,you canstill view the MK fireworks. Go to the 5th or 6th floor where the two wings meet. pull back the shutters on the big windows. Fastest way to get up it the elevater by RF.

SOUTH BUILDING A & B: Both sides are considered Courtyard View; however the outside rooms view the Villas and are quiet. Inside view is the courtyard.

Elevators in the wings are located where Wing A & B connect. Rooms to the far end have a long walk to the elevators or use the stairwell on the end to go to the pool or boat dock. It is my opinion that the North side offers more in convenience then the South side. Both sides are equal in access to Courtyard and pool, but the North has a greater convenience to Roaring Fork area of the lobby and to the boat dock. 5028 was a few steps from the elevator, not a noise problem, which opened into the RF hallway, Pubic restrooms and the Courtyard area just outside RF.
All end units facing Bay Lake are suites

Room numbers will not be given to you under any circumstances until it is ready for occupancy, security is the reason given.
If you arrive early you can check in, but your room key is not activated until Housekeeping clears it as ready, then you will be told what room you are in.

You should note the 6th floor rooms have a “pit” for your balcony. You can identify it in the pictures by where the roof looks like it was cut and raised. This is the 6th floor. They are very private, but you do have to stand to see over them. The lobby is 7 stories high

The best way to get to the North Wings from the lobby is to take the main elevator to your floor and walk across the hall overlooking the lobby.

Coming from the boat dock or pool, entering by RF is best for the North Wing. The entrance close to where A & B connect is best for the South Wing.

POOLS: Silver Spring and Silver Creek meanders down to the waterfalls and into the pool. There is a small slide and it is in the rocks that jut out into the pool. Two large hoppers by Trout pool bar have abundance of towels. The main pool is very pleasant during morning hours and does become somewhat crowded in the afternoon. Our plan was to stay at the main pool and after lunch move over to the Villas pool. While smaller is very nice and less crowded. A bonus is they have piped the lobby music to Rock Speakers in the surrounding landscape. We had a table in the shade and a speaker nearby and was very relaxing and enjoyable. WL sound track offers a very good selection of Western songs.
On the back of each Lifegaurd station is a white board. Each morining they list Park Hours, that day's weather and Lodge activities, like Duck races.
At the end of the main pool is the Kiddie pool. Up the steps are the teo spas.



WILDLIFE: They seem to have adapted very well to guests. One morning an Armadillo came up the walk searching for tidbits. Egrets and many other birds had no problem standing by a table for any fallen morsel. Ducks have no problem getting the pool for a swin with you. (Better Kim?)

WL LAUNDRY:
Location: 1st floor across from the elevators down from Roaring Forks

Washers: 5 (med sized loads) $2.00 a load

Dryers: 10 $2.00 for 15 min, (60 min max)

Go in the evening time right before the rush. There is a waiting line till about 11:00pm. If you didn't come back for your dryer in time your stuff is taken out! Everyone is splitting their wash load into 2 dryer loads so it would dry faster. Most of the WL VET ladies reccmend early morning.


Hair blowers, irons, ironing baords, coffeemakers are located in the rooms.

The Geyser starts at 7:00 AM and on the hour until 10:00 PM

Do you think it's worth asking when I check in, or does the fact that they say they are "booked" mean I don't have a prayer? You know, first time I stayed at the lodge, I asked about upgrading to concierge at check in, and was not very savvy about what it really meant, and I passed up a fabulous deal. ARE YOU READY FOR THIS ONE??????? I could have had it for $30 a night extra! and I had such a good rate to begin with, that, well, it's one of those things that you just never get over! So anyway, think it's worth a shot?

You can ask for the upgrade at checkin and if it is available, they will give it to you. Is it worth it? I would say yes but I love staying concierge. It will probably run you about $50 to $55 a night for the upgrade would be my guess. That's after taxes too I believe. Anyone recently upgrade to concierge want to confirm that???

Ask away if you have any other questions for concierge. I will do whatever I can to help.

Does anyone know if the rooms at WL have cedar in them? Cedar is one of my daughter's asthma triggers. I've called Guest Services at WL a few times but can't seem to get anyone who knows.
