Well, nothing is confirmed just yet but it looks like I will be taking my first trip into a Deluxe property in September. I went to a AAA travel show today and was given an unbelievable good rate for a trip for my DW and I. (No kids!) We will have just celebrated our 14th Anniversary so we are looking forward to it. Please send forward pixie dust to help this come about. The biggest hurdle will be to get my parents to watch the kids during that week. :scared:

So....does anyone know if there will be anything special going on for Superbowl Sunday? It'll be our first night at the lodge. We're from Indy, so we'll definitely be watching the game.

Here's some pixiedust: and some :goodvibes too!

Tinkerooni, sorry no answer to your question but I am looking for a favour. If poss could you check for me if there is soya milk/non dairy products available at WL as we are planning a trip in May and DD19mths has terrible eczema triggered by dairy? Thanks in advance from Kirstie

Do you take your own luggage up or use bell services? Is it considered tacky to take it yourself? We'll only have 2 extra large bags (on wheels). I would just prefer to save the extra $4-$6 and tote them ourselves. They're not cumbersome or awkward at all.

Hmmm, I'll be waiting for other answers. My first thought was....tacky but as I thought about it. Why not, this isn't the 4 Seasons or the Ritz. Maybe you need your luggage PDQ and can't wait. Their luggage service tends to be rather slow. So I say pull away!

I have done both, but usually I let bell services handle the luggage as we Valet park our car. As DVC Members this service is provided at no charge to me so I us it. It never takes more then a few minutes for bell services to deliver them to the room when we call them.

But I have also stayed and self parked, I just grabed my bags and rolled them inside. Guest are in the lobby with their luggage all during the day so NO :sad2: it isn't tacky or even unusual to see guest with their own bags.

Save your money for a few extra Micky Bars.

If I was going to be at the Lodge during Superbowl Sunday I would watch it down at the Territory Lounge. Better yet, the ESPN Club over at the BoardWalk.

I say....you are on vacation. Do whatever you want. For me, I like the Bellmen to take my bags. Even more the case for our trip this April. We'll be overnighting @ Pop the night we arrive, and we'll just have the bellmen ship our luggage to WL. Only one small carry on bag for us to worry abou that way.

Cheers,
Z

I dont know if this has been posted yet but we arrived Thursday Jan 25 and were told that they discontinued the Flag family as of that day.

We always take our own luggage whenever possible. All of our suitcases have wheels, so the kids each grab one and so do DH and I. I am awfully cheap and like to save money wherever I can. You will not look tacky or out of place if you bring your own luggage into the hotel.

While I hate hearing this, :sad2: Thanks for letting us know. I'm thinking it probably has to due to the Disney's Bell Services being taking over by an independent company. (outsourcing) I will be sure to ask when I'm there in March.

Well I was wrong...

thought the only thing that was outsourced was the valet parking?

It's true don't know what I was thinking earlier the outsourcing was just for Valet Parking

Regarding taking your own luggage....I just want to be sure everyone who replied understands that I was specifically asking about it because we're staying on the Concierge Level. Just didn't want to look out of place toting our own luggage up there. I think we'll go ahead and do it ourselves though. Thanks for the replies!:thumbsup2

FYI, when I saw the post on the Resorts board about the Flag Family being discontinued, I called Wilderness Lodge. They told me that the Flag Family Program is still there.

There may be some sort of changed put into effect (maybe due to Ranger Stan's knee surgery), but as of today there still is a Flag Family Program.

DH and I got to be Flag Family on December 15, 2006. I'm looking forward to doing it again sometime.
I just found this post over on a DVC boards the OP Daisylove had posted the Flag Family information on several threads. 1000th happy haunt posted the above.

So if you will be visiting the Lodge soon please check on the Flag Family and report back. Also if you can, check on Ranger Stan others have posted he has retired. I spoke with him in December and he didn't indicate he might retire soon.
Thanks
