Welcome to the new DISUK Book club list.

This is open to anyone who would like to join in. You can join us at any time for any or all of the books on the list.
Thank you to everyone who suggested books for this list - hopefully we've got a better balance this time.

Can any Mother help me? by Jenna Bailey – to read in October – discuss from 1st November

The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett - to read in November – discuss from 1st December

The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen - to read in December – discuss from 1st January

My Best Friend's Girl by Dorothy Koomson – to read in January – discuss from 1st February

Body of Evidence by Patricia Cornwell – to read in February – discuss from 1st March

Persuasion by Jane Austen – to read in March – discuss from 1st April

Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman – to read in April – discuss from 1st May

The discussion for "Body of Evidence" begins on post 85.

Er have you seen the size of pillars of the earth! I've had a copy years and keep putting it off as it's 806 pages long with tiny writing. I might get detention for being late with that one! :rotfl2:

Great list! :thumbsup2

I LOVE Patricia Cornwell and I think I've read that one - will have to read the back of a copy to jog my memory! :rotfl2:

I also have a copy of Persuasion on my "to read" pile as Pride & prejudice is my favourite book.

Oh, dear, and I thought I was doing well with this list! What shall we do?

I keep meaning to join in, will have a look at some of the books later and order them from Amazon.

Noughts and Crosses is a fab book, I know it is a teen book however I have read them all.

I'll will be giving Jane Austen a miss, I can't stand her books and have never been able to finish one. I have tried Pride and Prejudice about 3 times now and have given up each time.

I agree - you'd never get a list together if you tried to please everyone as we all have different tastes. I was only pointing out it's size so people are aware and don't leave until the last minute. (er.. note to self really :rotfl:) It's one of my Dad's favourite books which is why I've hung onto it determined to read it one day.

fab selection. Off to see how much they are going to cost.

where does everyone buy their books from?

That looks like a fantastic list. The Pillars of the Earth is my all time favourite book. I think I am on my third copy as I have read the previous ones so often that they fell apart. I know that I read this quicker the first time round than some 300 page books.

What genres do the books belong to? I know that The Pillars of the Earth is a historical novel, Body of Evidence is a thriller, Noughts and Crosses is Young Adult Literature and obviously Persuasion is a Classic, but what about the others?

I have sent you a PM. I wrestled with adding the genres to the list and then decided against it. I'd prefer the readers to actually see a book and preferably try to read it before dismissing it as "I don't read that type of book".

I agree ,some of the choices are not things i would normally read, but it's a bit like the 'reading list' at school, you would look at and balk, but then some turned out to be my favorite books ever!

At uni we were told, "I don't care if you like the book or not"

Just a bump to remind everyone that we have just 2 weeks until our new discussion begins.
