The *New* Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa Frequently Asked Questions (FEB2004)

We asked for diet coke (yes, I drink it with breakfast... just like coffee but cold) all the time. By the second morning, they were just bringing it to us any time that they saw my DH or I. Sometimes we actually got two b/c they saw us alone and brought us each one... even though I'm the only one who drinks it.

A good tip is to ask for a fridge in your room so that you can take them back and then don't have to order them with room service, go down if you just want one, or want one after they are closed up for the night. I think we paid for quite a bit of concierge service just through my diet coke habit and the cordials at night!

Did they charge you for the frig? and was that still better than the charge of the cokes through room service?
(I drink Diet Coke for breakfast, too.)

No charge for fridge. My "coke habit" as my DH refers to it was probably about 20 in the 7 days we were there (maybe more?) and at 2.50 a pop, it would have been $50 in soda. That is a lot of money on soda! Throw in the alcohol, deserts, etc... and it made sense for us.

Is the fridge big enough to hold a 1/2 gallon of milk? Gotta have milk for my 2 yr old and we aren't staying in the conerige level

Great info on the frig and Diet Cokes. I have the same habit.

Another important issue for us. My 16 year old only drinks water, cranberry juice and lemonade. I've heard they have lemonade and water, but what about cranberry juice?

Please let us know how your stay was when you return! We are going with our three children and while I've got reservations at GF...I keep trying to decide if they'd enjoy another resort better...we have had fridges at Poly and AKL and they were both big enough to hold the 1/2 gallons....I kind of remember thinking a full gallon was hard because of the bars on the door....you could easily fit 2 1/2 gallons in there. We would also put water bottles in the small freezer section (holds about 4 water bottles) and pack them for the next day...by the time we needed them they were nice and cool.

Enjoy!

DisneyNotes - We always saw cans of soda on ice as well as the large bottles of water out on the table. We asked if we could bring one of the large bottles to our room and it was no problem. I'm bad with keeping track of names - everyone seemed very helpful and willing to please. Not sure about cranberry juice - saw orange and apple.

disneyw/kids - Yes the refrigerators will hold 1/2 gallon of milk!

Ok, here's the next question. We will be arriving around 10:00 in the morning and I don't think our room will be ready. I would like to unload when we get there and not have to go back out into the parking lot when the room is ready. I see 2 problems with that and can anyone tell me how the GF will handle these?

1 - When I pack, I really pack. We will have a TON of luggage, special snacks, notebook computers, our own pillows and a zillion toys. Do they care how much they have to store for the day?

2 - How secure is the storage area? Some hotels have just put our carts in the front hallway areas and others, like AKL, have locked the carts in a room. I'm thinking of our computers here. Will they be safer in the parking lot or the storage area?

You should have no problem. Just drive up under the portico and a bellman will help get your bags and load them onto a cart. If your room is not ready, they are put into a secure building for storage. We've done this many times, most recently in May. We arrived around 10am and our room wasn't ready yet. We stored our luggage and visited the park for a little while. DD wanted to swim when we came back and when we went to the storage shed, a CM was there to check our tickets and take us to our bags.

So you can just go visit the shed when you'd like? I'll ask them where it is if so. Thanks for the info.

Yep, you can visit the storage shed. We had left something behind the we needed and we had to show our identification tag and they let us in to our luggage. They were very nice about it but they stood by while we got what we needed. They never really left alone there which is fine with me.

Also, even though checkin is 3:00, we never got into our room until around 4:00. As a matter of fact, we've never gotten into any Disney resort room by or before 3:00. Oh well, we found things to do.

The luggage storage shed is easy to locate. If you exit out the main entrance, walk to your left along the building and there it is. If your room is not ready, the registration CM can check for other availability, but it might not be exactly what you want. It doesn't hurt to have them look and give you your options though.

The concierge CM I spoke with did mention that the type of room I requested might be a wait or he could probably get me in to something else at 10:00. I guess I'll see when we get there. As long as the kids and hubby are snacking in the RPC, I should be able to take more time to check out the possibilities.

The lounge is a great place to hang out in. You'll find it very comfortable and it's open all the time. Even if they don't have a food service out, they will have drinks available. There are also 2 televisions and a couple of very comfortable couches. The breakfast service ends at 10:30 and the Daily Delights begins at 11:30. My kids grabbed some park maps and had fun making their ride plans while we waited for our room one time. If they want to swim, the theme pool has a really nice changing area.

You had asked earlier about the lounge CM's. You'll find that they are fairly quiet and seem to blend into the background. I think it's just in keeping up with the ambience of the resort. They may not approach you first, but if you have any questions or if you need anything, we found them all to be extremely helpful.

Perfect, I like that. I asked about lounge CMs because we always seem to have special requests and I wanted to know how they would react.

NEW QUESTION - Is there a cappuccino machine in RPC?

disneynotes - Sorry it took so long for me to reply! Yes, there is a cappaccino machine at RPC but it's the big Nescafe type that serves about 8 or 9 choices with the push of a button. I had a mocha one morning and while it wasn't Caribou or Starbucks quality, it was pretty good. I am not a big coffee conossieur however!

Thanks for the coffe information. We're big on caffeine in our family, so glad to know it's there.

What is the best room location to request? My sister and I will be checking in on the 18th. I've reserved garden view. We'd like to have the best view possible (while keeping our fingers crossed for an upgrade to LV but if it doesn't happen no biggie). I know this has been asked a million times, but I'm getting ready to email our TA with our requests. Thanks!

we are in garden view room and does anyone know if you can request a coffee maker in the room and if there is a fee. thanks
