Maybe we'll see you there...we are getting there tomorrow morning! :cool1:

We'll be the ones walking around like this:

:cloud9:

but with our mouths hanging wide open and taking a billion pictures!

Have a great trip!

Everyone, I'll be taking lots of pics anyway, so I'll be sure to share! See you later -

hey all
seems its been busy here.
Some great new pics?
Hows it going triplefigs? I see you are heading back to the GF.
I love the GF but the xmas prices are CRAZY !!!!!!;)

We have a GV booked at GF in november. On-line I notice it say Landscape View. I am assuming it is one and the same. Am I wrong?

I am thinking of changing our Tgiving trip to a Xmas one. I am bummed that the AP rates don't include check ins after Dec 15. I would need Dec 19 at the earliest. That darn ap website stinks, too.

Does anybody know if AAA rates would be a possibility for holiday period or did Disney remove that too??

I just am concerned about DS 17 missing 3 days of his jr yr in HS over Tgiving. The girls have that whole week off. He doesn't.

We'll see.....

Channing,
I have been trying to weasel my way back into staying at the GF right before Christmas, and let me tell you I am seeing nothing in the way of discounts. There is actually an AP Rate available ($305 Garden View) for the 15th-20th but that is it. Also, I have not been able to find any AAA discounts. And what really stinks is that for some reason I cannot book a trip for the 15th-23rd even at rack rate. But if I search on the 15-20, wide open availability, and then the 20th-23rd, wide open availability. So obviously Disney is not wanting to let people check in in Value season and have the stay go into Holiday season. So without a discount I don't see us getting to do the GF this Christmas.

Honestly, your best bet might be to hope that something opens up with the rack rates for a stay starting the 19th and on through Christmas, because this was available in the past. And there's always cancellations. And who knows, maybe a AAA might open up.

I'm not trying to discourage you either, I'm just letting you know what I've been running into. Good luck and let us know if you go for it and snag anything!

I'm still weighing our options...

Just booked our summer reservations! Last time we stayed at GF was January 2006.

So I was able to get a AAA rate ($368 with tax) for a gv GF room July 21-31 and a AAA rate ($376 with tax) for a waterview YC room July 31-August 5.

I thought about getting a theme park view room again (had this twice at GF) but with a 15 night trip in July and a 5 night (Poly) stay in January I figured we'd stick with gv and hope for Sago Cay Marina view (our favorite!).

Brian, thanks for that input & info....I was curious if discounts were even available. I was running into that same garbage regarding Disney not letting us check in on dec 19 and continue our stay into their holiday rates for value rates. They had it open but I couldn't do a continuing stay. :headache: When my girls came home from WI w/my parents I asked them about Xmas at GF again and my littlest one cried. She needs Xmas at home so that's where we'll be - which is a bummer, but we'll just keep our Thanksgiving ressie at the 40% off which is really too good to dump anyway!

I was less than thrilled w/how Disney is handling the AP rates nightly. They way they jump up during holiday season it's almost a wash betwn booking rack and having the rate hold at value for the duration than booking AP and having it jump up so high w/ their new nightly system. I am just not feeling the Disney love lately at all. Their new changes really do stink and it is just so many changes all at once. Now I found out that you can't even put an AP room on courtesy hold anymore, either. Little by little their new crackdown rules are becoming known to me and I am not liking it.

Good luck! Hope you can eek your way into the Grand for your Dec trip!:wizard: I remember just a little while ago that the rooms that were always available were at the Grand. They couldn't FILL them. Now, probably thanks to all our gabbing and giving away the secret of the magic at the GF we can't get ourselves in unless we book a half a year out. * Good grief *

I apologize if this has been asked before (but I can't find it if it has). Regarding Royal Palm Club level rooms, does the Lagoon View category in the RPC always afford a view of MK foreworks and the electric water parade?

Where on property (outside) offers great views of both as well?

Finally, what about regular lagoon view rooms? Do all have views of the water parade and fireworks? Which lodge is the best for location and MK views?

I know I've asked alot. I really appreciate any advice anyone can offer. THANKS SO MUCH!
:goodvibes

Channing, OMG! I forgot you had the 40% off code. Yeah, don't let that go! Especially the way discounts are headed. It will be just as good to be there for Thanksgiving anyway. The place will still be all decked out for Christmas! :santa:

WoodysRoundup, actually there is no specific Lagoon View category, within the Royal Palm Club rooms. It's just Main Building Concierge and you either get a lagoon view or GF courtyard view. Having never stayed RPC (boo hoo!) I can't say for sure, but I don't think you can view the EWP from the main building, because I think that takes place pretty much in front of Boca Chica.

As far as non-concierge lagoon view rooms...there are actually two categories, Lagoon View & Magic Kingdom (Theme Park) View. Lagoon View is going to be in Big Pine Key and some Boca Chica rooms. Like I said, I think the EWP is in front of Boca Chica, so you can see it there, but I don't think you can see it from most of the Big Pine Key rooms. From that building you may see the back of it when it's in front of the Poly, but then you wouldn't get the music. And no fireworks view from Lagoon View.

The Magic Kingdom View room category is the rooms in Sago Cay, Conch Key, & some of Boca Chica. There obviously you get to see the MK (& the fireworks), but I think only the Boca Chica & maybe the Conch Key rooms will see the EWP.

Please, anyone correct me if some of this is not accurate!

As far as other resorts with good MK views, well that would be the Poly & CR. Both have great MK views, arguably better than the GFs, and at the Poly you will for sure be able to view the EWP & the MK from the same room.

Hope this helps!

Well, DS was in TEARS when I told him we were going to stay at the GF vs CR. So, that ended my brief and wonderful planning for the GF in Feb. So, we're keeping the CR Tower MK view with the AAA rate.

On the good side, the kids and DH ALL said that they'd love to go for Christmas either in 08 or 09 and only stay at the GF RPC. But this time I'll know to book it when it 1st available for the holidays and not wait.

BTW, how far out can you book room only?

Denise - you're the only person I know who changes their ticker as much as me!

Ok, GF experts, my family is staying at the GF in mid November. (13-18). I think the Christmas decorations should be up or in the process during our stay. I want to take our Christmas card picture while we are there. Can anyone recommend a good spot for this?

Also, how is Gasparilla's (spell?) ? We are not on the DDP this trip so we may be eating there several times. I have some adrs for dinner but not every night as I would if we had DDP. (which we don't have because of our room discount)

One of the best spots I can think of would be right in front of that huge tree in the lobby. In fact I think there is a Disney Photopass photographer taking pictures there from time to time.

We really like Gasparilla's. It does not have as broad of a selection as some of the food courts, but the quality of the food is the best of any of the food courts I have been to. And it's not all chicken fingers and hamburgers. They have one section where you can get freshly made salads and they have a shrimp caesar salad that I love! We eat there at least a couple to a few times every trip. Of course our kids don't allow us to eat many table service restaurants anyway! :sad2:

In front of the beautiful lobby tree, on the grand staircase, near the gingerbread house. Those are my favorite photo spots.

We chose the room discount over the dining plan, too, for the GF. Gasparilla's is good. The kids get the chicken strips and pizza. I like the soup. They are very accommodating about special orders, which we always seem to have. I don't know why we have so much trouble ordering off a menu. Oh, they do have burgers and good breakfast sandwiches, too.

You call the GF private dining at 407-824-2474. I believe they only need a couple days notice, but I'd call a week or so ahead of time. The strawberries are delicious and you can have them on a platter with a white choc character, too, if you want. I did a white choc Goofy and a mix of the strawberries and truffles. (the truffles are pretty yummy!) They have other characters available & can fill you in if you're interested. They also can do strawberry brides in white chocolate - I forgot about that - we had those once....the tuxes are milk w/a touch of white, the little pearly brides are all white and cute. Have fun planning. :)

, ya, I have been out all day and just saw AP rates were released. Lots of complaints regarding the "deals" and availablity seems VERY limited in deluxes. I tried the AP website earlier and it was down. Somebody mentioned maybe Disney was raising rates/being stingy on the discounts so they'd have more money to fix their stupid website.:rotfl: I wish they would.

Happy planning,

Lives4Disney :)

Thanks for the info, I think I will call a week or so before we leave, do you know if they also do cookies?? My Hubby is a cookie fanatic...

Brian D and DisneyNotes , Thank you for your input.

We are really looking forward to our trip. I can't believe we are getting to stay at the GF. We were originally staying at the Swan but when we got the discount we couldn't pass it up.

We've been here at GF for two days, and I have to say this is rapidly becoming the favorite resort we've stayed at....

Thanks to all the previous posts on this thread that convinced me to change my reservations from Poly to here!

They do!! You can get a little variety plate with the fancy, little ones or I believe the yummy larger choc chip/oatmeal/sugar/or peanut butter.

Enjoy!!!
