I think that's the best route to take. :thumbsup2 They will set it up really nicely for you. Then you can enjoy your Coral Reef dessert (although it looks like they've modified that choc wave since I last had it) and order lunch/fluffy drinks at the cabana! :goodvibes

My Cindy cake and Tink were marble, I think and standard shapes....maybe that matters. THat icky choc Minnie cake was like it was made months prior and frozen and defrosted and refrozen. Just nasty w/ice in it and half watery cake. ALSO, they couldn't find the correct cake. They took a LONG time trying to find our cake - she started to bring out the wrong cake and turned around - so maybe they gave MINE away to somebody else.... :confused3 The waitress did say they were doctoring up a Mickey cake to be Minnie. :rotfl:

Happy planning,

Lives4Disney :)

That's horrible!!! We have had a few cakes over the years and, thus far (knocking on wood), none have been frozen.

I am really thinking that it would make more sense to just have it sent to the room and when we get back from the cabana see it then. I can't miss the opportunity for my cocktails by the pool!!!
Do I need to be in the room to have Private Dining set it up, or can they sneak in and sneak out and add the bill to my room charges? :confused3

We'll be at GF the last week of August in a standard garden view room. Anyone know which buildings have been refurbished and which have not? Anyone know which one(s) is/are currently being rehabbed? Would love to know your favorite building and why.

Thanks!

We are there at the same time as you :yay:

jtlover -- Nice to hear you'll be there as well! We're excited and can't wait. We've only stayed overnight at GF once -- this time it will be for a week. Our one-night stay convinced us we needed to be there longer!

They can just sneak in and set it up....there is an already added 18% gratuity. They did this sneaky setup for us, too, and it was fun to come back from the park to see this! Too bad it was after midnight by the time we got back, lol....that's not what I thought would happen, but ....best laid plans...

Enjoy!!

...I think so far the only building that is completed is Conch. They are currently working on the main building (RPC for the previous poster!) and Sugar Loaf concierge is set to go down in Sept/Oct. Not sure when Sago or Big Pine or Boca Chica will be scheduled. For some reason Conch's location does not appeal to me. It is kind of out there....it's near the boat launch. Not sure what the GV would be from there, but I don't think it would be so great. You'd be looking at Narcoosees. I have never stayed outside RPC, but for Thanksgiving we are and doing GV and my favorites would be Boca Chica (GV of the courtyard pool area and view of the main buiding) or Sago (marina view and right near Gasparilla's 24 hr grill and the marina for perfect Wishes viewing in front of Gaspies and I like the proximity to the main building)....Big Pine - don't like it's location, either, but that's just me and my weird reasoning. I am hoping for Boca or Sago for our fall stay.

Happy planning!

Thanks!! Do you think I am safe to order it next week or should I just do it and get it over with?? Not looking forward talking to the dead air on the end of the phone...:rotfl:

I would wait until about a week before you want it or you leave for your trip. I always worry about ordering too far in advance.

Ya, you might want to have the TV or radio on while you're on the phone w/them....just for company.:rotfl: Haha, I've been doggin' on them for a while now and you'll probably get a real charmer and I'll look like a liar.:rotfl:

Good luck & happy planning!!! It's coming up quick now!!:goodvibes

Hey guys, or I should say, ladies :) , just a quick question. It seems like the orchestra/pianist usually doesn't start playing until late in the afternoon, at like 4:00. Does that seem right to you all, or has that changed at all? Just curious...:rolleyes1

Thanks!

Not sure, but I can definitely report back after our trip later this month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Sorry gratuitious post to say- Hooray- we are going soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :goodvibes )

The orchestra starts in the late afternoon - I think closer to 5pm but I think the pianist starts in mid afternoon around 2 or 3 mabye? I remember sitting in the lounge having scones during tea time and listening to him! Sorry I don't know exact times!

During our last stay, the pianist and orchestra alternated starting @ 3:00. The pianist began, so I guess the orchestra wasn't on until 4:00 or so. The orchestra would end every evening @ 9:45 as we were having desserts in the lounge. It was a lovely way to end each day.

Lives4Disney -- Thanks so much for your response! We're having fun planning and, like you, I think Sago Cay and Boca Chica look great! Thanks again.

I think this is about right. I have sat in the lounge having a scone and the pianist has been playing.

Love that place.

Just wondering when the last room renovations were done. I'm thinking it was pretty recent but I can't remember for sure.

I know the orchestra was playing when I met with Channing in the RPC lounge. I dont know what time it was though.
It was lovely.

Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a garden view room with a king size bed (instead of 2 queens)? And if so what building? Also, does anyone know if you can swim on the beach at the GF, you never see anyone in the water in the pics....but you do see people waterskiing etc....just wondering. Thanks!:upsidedow

Just bumping up....we got lost way back there somewhere.

Sorry I can't answer your queen/king bed question.....we have not been lucky enough to stay at the Grand w/out our kids. ;) Somebody can help I am sure!:thumbsup2

Nope...no beach swimming allowed at all at any WDW resorts. The water looks gross and brown and weedy to me anyway. (that's one reason I don't get the whole "lagoon view" thing;) ) There when there are nice clean pools handy. I think there are critters in that water, too - I have seen people post pics of them. I am not sure why people are waterskiing etc & then no swimming allowed. Doesn't make much sense, does it? That brown water just has no appeal to me. I remember wading in the water at the Poly beach 30+ yrs ago, though!:)

Kelly, that was so nice!! Although it's hard to say what time who played what because I think we sat around and chatted for a few hours!!!

Happy planning!

Does anyone know where the Electrical Water Pageant can be viewed from the GF?

The Electric Water Pageant can be seen very well from the dock where the boat to the Magic Kingdom lands.
