The *New* Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa Frequently Asked Questions (FEB2004) Part 2

Hi everyone!!

We are going to be at the GF for part of our stay in September. It will be my first time there! I am soooo excited! We had reservations in the RPC but just changed them to the SL Concierge because of availability for the FL Res discount. There will be 13 of us (9 adults and 4 kids).

I've tried to read through this thread but there is just too much!

I was wondering if anyone could give me updated information on what the Sugar Loaf Club is like? It seems that everywhere I read says different things.

I would like to know:

1) Did you like the SL? If you've stayed at the RPC, which did you like better and why?

2) Are the food offerings and times the same as the RPC? Does anyone have info about what these are?

3) How are they about special food requests? My neice has a milk allergy, will they provide an alternative to milk if we ask in advance?

4) Part of our trip is celebrating my parents 30th anniversary. My sis and I would love to do something special for my parents. Does anyone have any ideas that are specific to the GF without spending a fortune?

Thanks so much for your help! Any other info about the SL or pictures you have would be wonderful!

Thanks again!

1. I like them both. I like the marina view in SL better than courtyard view in RPC. I love hearing the music in RPC. RPC is more convemient to the monorail and most restaurants but SL is not more than a minute's walk further to the main building...less to Gasparilla's.

2. The food offereings are the same.

3. Yes. WDW is great about things like that.

4. Perhaps a private dinner somewhere around the GF? Or you could look into getting the chef's table at Citricos. I don't remember the name of the experience but there is a minimum $ amount which you would easily meet I would think with your large group.

Have fun and congratulations to your parents. What a great place to celebrate!

My 4 yo DD LOVES Alice!!! Do you think it would be acceptable to ask if they can have an autographed picture of Alice in the room for her for our upcoming stay in SL?? I'm totally willing to pay and don't expect a freebie.
I haven't made contact with IPO yet as we had already made our ADR's, but was thinking about emailing and asking if this would be possible.
Thanks :)

I can't answer your ?? about the autographed pic of Alice (although I think they'd do it) but I did want to say that since we have made ADRs for b'fast w/ Alice in Dec., I have been looking for Alice stuff. I am hoping that DD will be Alice for Halloween & then she can wear the costume for the b'fast. We went to Bath & Body Works today & I found the neatest Alice stuff...which I certainly didn't expect to find there! They had gift boxes (that could be used for pictures) filled w/ an Alice cosmetic bag & 2 nail polishes, also had a silver mirror with an "A" on the back & 2 lip glosses. I thought DD (Anna) would love these!! Just wanted to share since I know we have many Alice fans on the GF thread (oh and these things were 75% off!)

Sure, you can request it. For our bdays last year they gave us Alice/Mad Hatter autographed pics at 1900 PF.....so I know they are around, lol. Sometimes once you contact IPO they will even ASK what your favorite characters are & try and surprise you with something. Have a wonderful stay. I miss that place. *sigh*

Thanks for the B & B Alice info. I had seen that online quite a while ago and forgot all about it. Maybe I will go to the store tomorrow and check it out. :goodvibes

Now, these were $30 something items & I got them for around $8! They also had some shimmering powder in an Alice container...did my 22 month old DD need that? No, but the beautiful thing about having a daughter is that you can say it's for her when its really for you! :woohoo:

How adorable!!! I agree - daughters are fun! ;)

I bet our stores won't have this stuff......we are in the sticks. I am going to check online NOW.

Enjoy!

Lives4disney... Thanks! Will email IPO with the request! We are really excited about our first stay at GF! It's the only monorail resort we haven't stayed at.. We got a great AAA rate for SL and HAD to give it a try.. Someday, we'll try RPC! LOL!
SLDL.. Will get there tomorrow and see what's left... Thanks again:)

I have finally booked our 1st anniversary trip to the GF!!!:cool1: I am SOOOO excited!! I was able to catch a RPC room, so it will be just like when we were there for the wedding...

Only this time, it will be just the 2 of us!!! No DMIL in the same room, no Best Man in the same room. It will finally be like our honeymoon! I can't wait!!!

I am looking forward to our 1st GF stay in December & wanted to know what your favorite resort souvenier is. I usually like to get fridge magnets from each of the resorts. What have you found at GF that is your favorite?

I am so not a souvenier person (for myself)....I collect the Cat's Meow little village houses and I found a GF one. Not really excatly Cat's Meow, but it fits in with the collection. Years ago I bought a Cat's Meow (the real deal) Cinderella castle and a few other Liberty Square buildings. WDW stuff just doesn't fit in with my house. :confused3 The GF toss pillows seem to be a hot item. I just don't love them enough to spend $65 or $80 on one pillow, lol. We buy Xmas ornaments sometimes. DH ALWAYS buys a Disney watch - every darn trip....and he buys himself a nice pen or two. My girls pin trade so we buy GF pins once in a while - bought the gingerbread house Lmt ed pins last Xmas......I guess if you collect a certain type of thing and find a piece for your collection, that's the perfect thing.:goodvibes

Sorry to ramble. I am so bored tonight!!!! :sad2:

Have fun,

Lives4Disney :)

One of our favorite souvenirs from GF is a gold key that says Grand Floridian on in. It's actually a keychain but we hang it on the tree every year. Our kids joke that it's mom's key to the GF! We found it at Sandy Cove. Have a wonderful stay!

MasterRocks, the best way I've found to get to Epcot is by way of the MK. Just zip on over with the monorail and instead of turning left for the ticket gates, keep on walking straight towards the bus stop. Hop on the BC/YC resort bus, get off at BC and walk through the resort and out the back. Turn left on the path and the International Gateway entrance is about a 3 minute walk. That entrance is so quiet and easy to get through.

Kelly, just an FYI, but you can get Crocs at the REI store in Reading. Take the 129 Reading exit off of 128. Coming south, I'm pretty sure it's the 2nd turn off the rotary. You'll see the Mandarin Garden restaurant on your right and a sign for the Registry of Motor Vehicles. The REI store is there on the left.

Speaking of souvenirs, do you guys know if the GF sells sterling charms of the resort for a charm bracelet? I have had a charm bracelet for about 30 years that I buy charms for when we travel or for special occasions and events. It is one of my prize possessions because it holds so many memories. I have a few WDW charms already, but would love one of the GF.
:cool1: :cool1: Our trip is now exactly 3 weeks away:cool1: :cool1: Not that I am excited or anything!

Yes, we got a GF charm for my DD's bracelet upstairs in the store that has the toys. It's really cute and is in the shape of the GF logo. They had several to choose from. Oh, and I collect Christmas ornaments when we go. I love looking at them on the tree each year to remind me of our trips.

The last few times my family and I went to visit the Grand Floridian I think the Sandy Cove store was selling mini snowball globes with the Grand Floridian inside. Well I might want to purchase one so I am wondering are they still being sold there and how much does it cost?

Triplefigs, do you know if those are the charms with the little hooks on them? Both my DD's have a set of those as well. My DH bought me a really nice sterling silver charm bracelet with Tinkerbelle on it and I could only find the sterling silver charms at a shop in MGM Studios. I have a Mickey Head with each of our birthstones, but I'd love a silver GF charm as well.

Tammi,

DDs has the spring ring clasp on it. I'll try to take a picture of it.
