Hello everyone! I just reserved a "Deluxe King Bed Palm Club" Room. Does this mean it's a Honeymoon room or is there another category that is just a larger king room? If so, are there any pictures of the deluxe rooms? Thanks!:)

The only deluxe king bed rooms in RPC (Royal Palm Club) are indeed the honeymoon rooms, and there are 2 different layouts. Tammi has these on her website:

There has actually been a great deal of recent discussion about this room type, and the 2 different configurations over the last several pages. You might go back about 3-5 pages, and read from there.

HTH!

Hi, that's what we were just discussing above on this page for Lyn - she's going to the GF for her 50th bday:goodvibes . There are two types of these deluxe king rooms. Some are on teh 2nd floor of the main building over Gasparillas with a MK view and others are in the turrets with no balcony and you get whatever view you get, but they are LOVELY rooms.

Happy planning!! I can't wait til 2008 for my 20th anniversary.....I am booking one of these rooms and leaving my 3 kids at home!!!! :thumbsup2

Wow! Thanks so much for the quick and helpful replies! I started to read a few of the posts a page or so back but was confused if it meant my room type. I will go back 5-6 pages and catch up. :goodvibes

Channing:

I will be married 25 years next year maybe I can get my DH to agree to the GF RPC Deluxe room again if I am really nice to him on this trip.

He has already said we could have our vows renewed in Disney.:thumbsup2

I am taking one trip at a time.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions on rooms. I knew I can count on my friends at the DIS to have the answers.

That's awesome, Lyn! I feel like these past 22 yrs that DH and I have been together went by so fast. Not always good, lol, but FAST!

My husband doesn't even know what I am thinking of doing, but I have converted him to a WDW and GF lover, so I don't think it will be a problem - except trying to go to WDW w/out the kids! THAT's the problem. ;) When we honeymooned, we were sooooo broke (had a beautiful wedding, though!) and didn't even have any honeymoon planned at all. My uncle gave us the key to his Vero Beach condo (gorgeous right on the beach) at our reception and we stayed there a week and then drove to some divey cheap hotel/motel near WDW and so I think for our 20th we need something terrific!:goodvibes

It sounds like you have some fun things planned for your bday trip. I sure hope this stay at the GF is magical. You need to meet Vonnie. She will make your stay the BEST. She's from NJ, too!

Happy planning,
Channing :)

Channing:

Your honeymoon sounds like mine. We stayed in the Quality High-Q across the street from Wet n Wild. "A real dive"

Only I got sun poisioning and had a bad reaction to the sun. My forehead and face all swelled up and I looked like an alien. We had to finally go home early. I look back now and laugh but at the time I was devasted.

It sounds like you have the perfect plan for your 20th. It is great the first time you go on vacation with kids. Eventhough we miss them!!!

I see we are only missing each other in Disney by two weeks.

Lyn

Lynn, it sounds like a perfect birthday celebration.

Tinkaroo, thanks for the info. Sounds exciting. I'm still waiting for someone to play my game of "what will the new rooms be like." :goodvibes I'm still guessing flat screen TV, lower armoire/dresser to hold it, desk and reconfigured closets. Our Grand Californian Hotel room had a very nice square desk that also worked as a table with one little cute drawer in it. I miss having a table in the new rooms at the Polynesian. C'mon, make your guesses gals! What about color schemes...will there be multiple ones again?

Channing and Lynn, sounds like your honeymoons were memorable anyway.

Hi, BCV....a bit OT, but how was your GCH stay?? We stayed at the DLH over spring break and really enjoyed DL A LOT!! More than we expected to. The hotel was really nice & charming too. The bathrooms were showing their age and a bit on the run downish side, but the rooms were spacious and the CMs were WONDERFUL. I am really curious about the GC! I am sure it was beautiful, but how about the room size - how does it compare to the WDW rooms?? With 5 I was a bit turned off that my son might have been on the floor in a sleeping bag 'cause they couldn't guarantee that daybed room, so we opted for the DLH, which I would do again in a second, but DH would also like to check out the GCH. We were sooo park busy that we didn't even step foot in it. I don't even know where those DTD or CA entrances were.:confused3 We just LOVED DL and hope to go back this winter.

Happy vacation planning!! I can't wait to see the redone GF rooms. They will probably be to die for.

Oops, and actually I need to get my ticker out of there. We are going to WDW May 19 for a week!!! (I cancelled the July trip - bummer....)DH has a conference and my mom is coming to watch the kids for us - except DD10 wants to come with us so I am letting her. She is my buddy and it will be nice to have some bonding time. DD7 WANTS to stay with Grandma!! She will get spoiled. Well, Lyn, it sounds like we've come a long way, lol.....cheapy dives to the Grand!!!

Channing :)

Channing, I loved the GCH. The architecture is stunning. Service was great as well. I did think of you and your family of five. We have three children too but our youngest was at college and our eldest is married so that trip there were just three of us. We had two queens...we call them Disny queens because they are just not as big as our queen at home. Until a few years back, the queens at the Polynesian were truly queens but those days are gone.:sad2: I imagine you remember larger queens at the CR as well? Anyway I did think of your family and if your had been placed in a 2Q room, I don't know where the sleeping bag could have gone. There might have been just enough space to put it between the bed and sliding glass door but with zero extra space...would have been very claustrophobic.

Anyway, the rooms were small but very well laid out I thought. There was a large open space as you entered the room which worked for luggage, water and pop, etc.. The closet was deeper then any I've seen at WDW which was very nice. Not as wide as GF and not nearly as wide as the old Polynesian closets but still worked well. The TV was flat screen and the low armoire in which it was placed had a builtin frig. Lots of nice little touches including turndown, robes, stainless steel coffeepot. No tea though which surprised me. My husband made a beverage and snack run while I checked in though and thankfully bought tea for me.

He met us at LAX and he had just come from a suite so the size bothered him but I thought it was fine for the three of us. He travels a lot so a "hotel room is just a hotel room" to him but he had been spoiled often at a Marriott this winter. He did notice lots of bunkbeds rooms down a hallway that we took to the elevator. It looked as if those rooms afforded much more floor space. These probably would have had plenty of space for a sleeping bag but who wants to put a kid on the floor when everyone else has a bed.:confused3 It's different if everyone's camping. We just noticed in passing though so no details.

But I did love the GCH. It is just beautiful and I've never been that much of an Arts and Craft fan....at least before this trip.

If you go back this winter, be sure to visit the GCH anyway. It is amazing.

Cool that you have a trip to WDW so soon.:thumbsup2 We'll be there then too although we leave the 21st. It is alway special when you have one on one time with a child.

***MORE NEW INFO***

Here is the further information I just received:

All I know schedule wise, is that building five - Sago Cay - begins 5/06/07. After it is completed they move on to building seven - Conch Key. Each building will be done until all are completed by the end of December. The Main Building will have rooms worked on in July and August with the work being limited to one floor at a time. Room 4008 - Victoria Suite will be done in October.

Sorry I do not have more information as to buildings eight or nine (Sugar Loaf may not be done this year, as the word is there will be extensive work done there, nothing offical though).

If I get updated information, I will let you know.

It is nice to get some "official" information! Sounds like our beloved GF will be sparkling new sooner than expected! :goodvibes

How exciting!! We requested Sago for our end of August trip and I would LOVE to be in one of the new rooms!!

I was thinking about this today with the news. I certainly hope that there are different themes - definitely helps make the GF "special." I'm trying to think if any of the other Disney resorts have different themes - I guess there are different themes in the rooms at CSR and POR, but I'm trying to think of others.

It will be interesting to see how they take the sleeker designs that have been popping up in the other monorail resorts and the new AKV villas, and see how they put a Victorian spin on them. Whatever they do, I bet they'll still be just lovely.

And if they're not, then I guess I could save a lot of money by moving my reservation! ;) :rotfl:

I would love to get my hands on some of that Cameo stuff - guess we should start watching MouseSurplus!

BCV, thanks for all that great GCH info. Glad you had a nice stay there. :) I LOVE the Arts and Crafts style, but my own home is very much in that design, so it just doesn't thrill me for a "getaway" KWIM? I LOVE the look of the WL, but don't ever desire to stay there, either. When I asked the DL reservationist about the size of the rooms, she told me GCH was about 250 sq ft. That really surprised me because that's a big diff btwn the WDW resort's room sizes. I know we weren't in the room much, but it really does kind of stress me out to feel tight in the hotel room. Maybe next DL trip we will just take a peek at the lobby and dine there in the hotel. I really enjoyed the DLH and the price was great, too, compared to GCH. I am just SO GLAD we dumped that high priced AAA GCH concierge package. I would have been so sorry because we really were out all day. The weather was beautiful and the parks were too.

It is so funny that you mention the queens being smaller. YES! I know what you mean. I especially notice at the YC, though. So many times I thought the beds were doubles - then thought it has to just be the pattern on the comforters making them look narrower. At the CR, what I remember most from years ago about the beds is the HARD mattresses, lol. I would spend so much of the trip with a kinked neck or sore shoulders! I am so glad the hotels have the nicer plushy mattresses now. :goodvibes I still miss the "old" CR, though. Gorgeous as the rooms look, I wish they didn't dump the cute Disney touches it used to have.

Have a great WDW trip! We will be at the Swan this time.....DH's employer won't spring for RPC, haha.

Channing :)

Channing, I remembered you had been told the rooms were 250 sq ft at the GCH . Ours was certainly bigger than that. My DH walked it off and we guestimated it at 300-310. It did appear on the room charts as if some rooms were smaller but I wonder if that 250 was accurate. That is really small.

I know what you mean about the WL. It is very cool to visit but I have no desire to stay there. I would probably feel different if we ever try it becasue I know there are so many loyal WL fans. But when I go to FL, I just don't want that atmosphere. :confused3 But the GCH is quite different. If you do visit it be sure to look for the outdoor fireplace which is on the South side of the building. It is a very cozy spot. The ceiling over the indoor hearth is amazing and just sit in a chair and look up at all the amazing architectural detail. Just beautiful.

When I said we leave the 21st I meant that is when we leave WDW that day. We start at BCV on Mother's Day and then head over to the GF for our last three nights. I'm really getting excited about the trip and most of all seeing our son and his wife who live down there.:woohoo:

Have a fun trip and I hope you enjoy the Swan.

Now which lodge is having the first work done? Was it Sago Cay? I want to stay on topic at least a little.;)

I just wanted to chime in and say I am very excited about the GF room refurb and thanks Tinkaroo for getting that info! We are going right before Christmas and it is great to hear that it should be done by around then! We currently don't have a ressie yet (long story), but it appears that all that is available currently is Garden or Lagoon (at least on their website). Our trip would go right up to the 24th, so that may be part of why nothing else is available. We were hoping for MK View (or better :teeth:), but we may just go with Garden View if it doesn't become available. To me, the Lagoon View is not an option. If I'm paying extra for the view, the MK better be involved. :) Anyway, this thread, as usual, is just helping to get me fired up!

BCV, have a great time yourself! I was down at WDW a few yrs ago over Mothers Day and it was so wonderful. The weather was gorgeous and the parks were not busy. :thumbsup2 That is why this spontaneous May trip is so exciting to me - plus it's free, lol!! What could be better??!!:lmao: (well, a stay in RPC, I guess, but the Swan is nice ;) ) Can't wait to hear about your stay at BCV and the GF! Have a super time & nice visit with your son & family.

BrianD, I totally agree with you on that view situation. We really love RPC, but if We don't want to make that splurge garden view is IT. A few years ago I would have not felt I was at Disney w/out that castle view, but now just being at the GF.....I have arrived! :goodvibes I hope you can reserve what you want.:wizard: We are going over Thanksgiving and I have a GV booked. I would love a "new" room. I wonder what they will be like?? I agree....hope they have different decor themes. Keep that info coming, Tinkaroo.:thumbsup2

Happy planning and vacationing, everybody!

Channing :)

IPO has been wonderfully quick responding. They booked my last few ADRs for our July trip and noted our requests for a Lodge Tower Room. Second request of daybed and balcony.

They did let me know that Sugar Loaf would not be affected by the rehab in July. Also, in making a reservation for Grand Floridian Cafe, IPO made a note to me that this restaurant would be serving as "Character Dining at the Grand" while 1900 Park Fare is down for rehab.

Thank you again to all on this thread for valuable information about the GF. Now I am ready to go :thumbsup2
