howdy there all my gf friends
see many of you are planning trips back to the GF for this year
we are trying a villa at BW this summer and bringing along my mil and bil they havent been to wdw in well forever
so no GF for us this year
i do want go back to the Sugar loaf after the refurb though

Hi, Kelly! Sound like a fun trip planned. You were at WDW a lot!! What are you talking about??!! :goodvibes BW is a fun area. I am planning on staying at the S/D or YC/BC if we go in July.

Happy planning!!

Channing :)

ZipD and BCV.....I am going to call AAA this morning and cancel that ripoff GCH DL package. It is $4K for 4 nts and 5 days' tickets. The tickets are $795, so that leaves $3200 for the room and whatever little extras AAA offers with their packages. I originally only booked thru them for the Enhanced FP and then they disappeared!! I was just going to keep the ressie and go thru with it, but I am so uncomfortable about it I just can't. Somebody posted about getawaytoday travel co that has the rooms much more reasonable and I may do that - NOT concierge. I found that they don't have IPO or other little extras I really like at WDW that add magic. I have my mind set on doing the Sheraton Anaheim with SPG points and saving money for another WDW trip. :thumbsup2 From the start I was shocked at how expensive GCH was compared to WDW deluxes and then I find out the services offered don't really compare, and then the bed issue - my son might get a sleeping bag for $800/nt.....no thanks. I would feel like a meanie. :sad2: $800/nt for a room, nice beds for us - here you go....sleep on the floor. He's the oldest, my only son, and gets the short end of the stick a lot due to having two little sisters and one which is HC. He's a GREAT big brother and I don't want him to feel llike an afterthought on a family vacation - he is 16.5 yrs & already preferring to stay w/friends vs go with us on vacations. He was sure sorry he missed my most fabulous 40th bday trip to the GF!!!;)

ZipD, you will love RPC. The people in the lounge and concierge CMs are so nice and helpful. Housekeeping is wonderful, too. They always leave tons of toiletries and lots of towels and lots of chocolates on the beds at turndown. LOL, by the time we have to pack up, we have the nightstand drawer filled with the chocolates!! I always have second thoughts about spending that much on a hotel room, too, but it has always been worth it in the end. The main building is beautiful - everything about it. :goodvibes

BCV - have a great GCH stay. :wizard: I will be interested to hear how you enjoyed it. I may regret not staying there.....I guess this trip we will have to check everything out and if we love DL, we'll be back and go all out.

Happy planning,

Lives4Disney :)

I aree, $800 a night IS too much for GCH. :scared1: (unless it was a 2-bedroom Artisan Suite - those are like 3 rooms in one). I know the Concierge there is nothing compared to WDW concierges. They don't really plan anything for you unless you make it a point you want them to. The standard rooms are smaller than some of the Deluxes at WDW. They are planned out like AKL and WL. The theming is beautiful though. While you are at DL, try to take a stroll through the lobby or eat at one of the restaurants while you are there. I haven't stayed at the Sheraton, but I'm sure you will have a great time there. It's really not a huge deal to say at a non-Disney property at DL. I've also read great things about the Doubletree Guest Suites (brand new, spacious, free breakfast - you can see pics at tripadvisor.com) No matter what you do, you'll still have a great time!

I am getting so psyched about GF! My DD is looking forward to those chocolates on the bed at night!:cloud9:

I wanted to vent a bit about the GF's IPO, and knew you all would understand :)

We wanted the Chef's Table at V&A's for our 5 year anniversary, so, a few days before the 180 day mark, we tried calling IPO. The phone went straight to voicemail, so I left a message. I also sent an e-mail to follow up. No response from anyone. So I call them the day before the 180 day mark and, after waiting 10 minutes, someone answers the phone. I tell her that I wanted them to try to get the V&A's Chef's Table for us, for August 5, but that I hadn't heard back from them whether they need anything from me (like credit card, which I KNOW they need!). She sighed, irritated, and asked, "Did you send us an e-mail?" Yes, I did. "Well, we'll get back to you." Then she hangs up. Grrrr...

My DH & I are both up at 7, calling WDW-Dine on 2 different phones, with no luck - we couldn't get Chef's Table. I was hoping that IPO had managed to get it for us, so I sent them yet another e-mail. They responded to this one and said, no, they didn't get it for me, but if I wanted them to book anything like that, I'd need to send them my credit card number. Grrrrr again.

I tried calling them yesterday and today, ALL DAY (periodically), and every time it just went straight to voicemail. I had wanted their help with other reservations, but now I don't trust them, so I just made these myself.

Does anyone else think they are less than useless? Should I complain about this to someone, or just suck it up? Am I not paying for their services? To have them just blow me off like that really irks me. It's the fact that I know they didn't even bother to TRY to get our Chef's Table reservations that drives me crazy.

BTW, my DH & I were able to get Chef's Table for August 4, so we're not devastated, but it's our 5 year aniversary, which is kind of a big marker for us, ya know? I just wanted to make that very day special. I know we will, in some other way, but we had our wedding reception at V&A's, and it would have been a nice way to celebrate.

Thanks for listening!

I would call guest services or email them
for the $$ you pay to stay at the GF thats ridiculous

Aw, Heather....that really sucks. :guilty: I would call the concierge manager and complain for sure. Kelly is right. We all know how costly it is to stay there. Part of what you are paying for is the preplanning services. I know IPO got a new manager a while back around the time I was having big issues with them and it seems things have steadily kept going down the tubes.:sad2: I know a couple IPO CMs quit and probably due to being understaffed, due to WDW being such cheapies, service is horrid - which is not acceptable.

I know the names of two concierge managers, although you probably do, too. You can PM me if you want their names. I believe they would try and make it right for you.

Sorry this happened to you. IPO is really lacking.

Channing :)

Heather, I know you must be so frustrated. I would be fuming! I'm very glad you got in on the 4th though. Maybe for the 5th you could contact Private Dining for a romantic dinner on the balcony off the concierge lobby or in your room, reserve the Grand 1 for a cruise and/or dinner. My parents anniversary is Aug 5 too (they'll be married 40 years!), so I'll be sure to think about you.

We are thinking of the GF garden view room for our next WDW vacation and was wondering if anyone can suggest a building / location for a GV that is better then others

I tried reading some of the posts on here but after 10 pages I really find it hard to follow

Hope you don't mind me asking a question I am sure has been asked a million times

My favorites are either Sago Cay or Conch Key. I always ask for the marina side but that's a personal preference.

Robyn, what exactly is on the other side of Sago?? I can't picture it. If you're in Sago and not looking at the marina, what do you see??? I know the monorail, but what else?? Is it still a nice view??

I requested Sago just for proximity to Gaspies and the main building, but I think any building is pretty nice. I wouldn't mind just about any GV -except that pool building rooftop view!

Thanks,

Lives4Disney :)

All I have heard from GF CMs is that it is planned to begin Sept 07 in Sugar Loaf lodge. I don't think there will be too much disturbance. They will be working on the individual lodge buildings, probably one at a time, and all construction will be confined to the inside of that particular building. We are planning Nov 07. No worries here. They did this same type of thing at the Poly and I didn't hear that anybody was inconvenienced.

Happy planning,

Lives4Disney :)

Thx so much you have set my mind at rest I have a daughter with Fibro Myalgia and she needs her rest at night

Hi, welcome to the GF thread. :) We have stayed at the GF MANY many times, but I am also planning our first GF GV stay for Nov. Disneymomx7 likes Sago Cay or Conch for marina views. I requested Sago because it is right near the marina and the main building and Gasparillas Grill (24 hr "fast food" type place) From the outside of Gaspies, you have perfect views of the fireworks over the castle. Sago is just very convenient.

I also know many people request Boca Chica. It is about a 5 minute walk to the main building, but has beautiful courtyard pool and garden views. Big Pine Cay is another highly requested....it is near the waterfall/slide pool, but I believe it is a smoking optional building. Also, I think the worst possible view you could get for a GV room is in Big Pine. That view would be of the pool house roof. With my luck I would get that view, so I am staying clear of that building.

Other than that bad view I mentioned, I don't think you can go wrong with a GV room. There are no parking lot views. I have only stayed in Sugar Loaf or the main building, but always thought if we don't do concierge we would just book a GV room because the views are so pretty.

Sago is convenient, but I think I would almost prefer the VIEW from Boca Chica. I honestly don't care which building we end up in because they really all have their positives.

Happy planning. The GF is the best! :wizard:

Viv, another thing....I have really found that if you are unhappy at the GF for any reason and let them know, they will go out of their way to make things right for you. If your daughter is having trouble sleeping (if there is noise or something else about your room disturbing her rest) let them know. If the front desk CM isn't great about it, ask for a manager. I have stayed there a lot and haven't had much trouble at all, but when we did they fixed it right away.

I love the GF.:goodvibes

Heather, I just wanted to say I am so sorry! I can imagine how disappointed you are. I can't offer you any advice, since I'm not an expert like you and the other fine people on this thread, but I hope your day will be filled with magic nonetheless. :goodvibes
I had to wake up early just like you to make the Chef's Table reservation for our upcoming trip - what a nerve racking experience - and it made me wonder what the IPO was really for?!

It's been a long time since posting here....but we finally may have a new trip to the GF to plan!! We are thinking of a Christmas trip :cloud9: We probably won't be staying concierge like on our honeymoon, but we'll still be at my favorite place to stay in a GV room :woohoo: At first we were planning a trip for June 2008, but we've been talking about December 07 instead!! It's still more than 10 months away, I'll keep myself occupied by reading about everyone else's trips. We'll also have our new baby :cutie: with us as well as my 2 step children who have never been to WDW! I'm so excited, hopefully we'll be able to book it soon.

ok happy helpers. need some advice. I am by NO MEANS planning a trip, as we are broke haha. BUT for teh future....I ave been crunching numbers....we love the GF so much, but could get a super nice room somewhere. Icould get conceirge at some other deluxes for teh price of a GV room at the GF. I am torn. do I try somewhere new and get more perks, or stick with teh GF? (we were thinking either WL or AKL) help me ladies!!!! (like i said, we have no trip planned, but my wheels are turning....)

Heatherlynn.....uh oh....you are so funny. Gotta keep the wheels turning!;) I loved reading your honeymoon trip report. It was just wonderful. :) I so know how you feel. I could see it coming from the way you described leaving the GF to go home.:sad1:

Well, how about maybe a split stay between a lower priced resort and then the GF RPC for maybe 3 nts as a grand finale? Sometimes we do a S/D - GF split. It is actually nice and fun to be on the BW side. Walk to MGM and Epcot and BW at night. You would have tons of fun at Jellyrolls after dark. You can get rates as low as $125 at the S/D and when DH and I get any opportunities to go to WDW sans kids that is where we stay so we don't "waste" money on a Disney resort w/out the kids to be there and enjoy it. They are really nice - nicer than mods for sure, and probably even nicer than some WDW deluxes. A split may make it more affordable. They have teacher and nurse rates and AAA rates, Dis specials and AP rates - oh had to include SPG discounts too where sometimes you book nts and get free nts. Go to Starwood.com and look into joining SPG for free. Keep an eye on Mousesavers for discounts, too.

We are actually doing just a GV room for Thanksgiving this year. I feel really good about it. First nonconcierge at the GF, but I feel good not paying $700/nt. Nine nights and it is not even 1/2 what RPC cost for 8 nts over Xmas. I think we will manage just fine without concierge this trip. :)

Happy planning! You have to keep Disney dreaming!! I am going to PM you something, too.

Heather, I know how you feel...:thumbsup2

We go to Disney several times a year. And like Lives4Disney, many of our stays are RPC. NO longer! We have so much fun doing different things while we are there, the Segway tours, Richard Petty Driving Experience, etc. And I just can't justify paying so much per night anymore.

We tried the WL last September, during Labor Day (the GF was booked out when I called CRO). I loved it! It was so nice and relaxing - I was really surprised. It is a lovely resort, and BG and I are planning a 9 night return visit this July. I figure that we can do 9 nights at the WL, and pay for all of the food we need and it will still be LESS than we would spend for 5 nights RPC.

But, I can tell you, the GF will always be our favorite! And RPC is just heavenly....:cloud9:

Hope this helps! Any trip to WDW is just great!

Hi, GF Fans!!

This is way OT, but my DD10 has stumbled on the CUTEST link. It includes a preview of Disney's Tinkerbelle movie and it is BEAUTIFUL. I get teary eyed just with the music. Make sure you can hear the music!! The animation is gorgeous.

It looks so Disney!!:wizard: Makes me think of the way I remember Disney.:goodvibes

DD has read all the Fairie books and LOVES them.

Enjoy,:grouphug:
