Hi Lives4Disney -- I can understand your kids, as I have a grandson that loves Disney, but has visited so many times, I believe he just takes it as "nothing special" anymore. Have to admit hubby and I are Disney nuts (me more than he), and Disney is also our therapy. We are local Disney and enjoy Disney for R&R. Perhaps we have over dosed the kid on Disney. It seems as though you also like to visit often. I guess you and I will have to accept the fact that the kids are growing up and have their own agendas/lives, and don't want to hang out at Disney as much as they used to. My grandson is so "old" with Disney, that most of the time, doesn't want to go to the parks, he's just happy with resort life (boy did I teach that kid right), HA HA. As they all mature to adults, they too, like us, will be more than happy to frequent Disney and spend time at the Grand Floridian, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Contemporary, etc. and will fast remember our "cravings" to return to the happiest place on earth.

By the way, if the kids do decide not to come along (and you agree), Disney can be wonderful for just you and your spouse. HUMM, maybe a relaxing sort of Disneymoon? Have a great day!!

I think you're right....they have been overdosed on Disney. I am the one that can't get enough. I love that place! I went ahead and booked BWI with an AP rate for August;) - JUST in case they decide, in the duldrums of summer, that a Disney trip is called for, lol. If not, maybe just DH and I??! Sounds great to me! I will take it anyway I can get it! :goodvibes

Last year my oldest, DS16 didn't want to make our summer trip.....well, too bad for him - we did the Grand 1 cruise and got upgraded to the Walt Disney Suite!!! Boy was he sorry he opted out.:rotfl: We have actually done Universal and Sea World etc, but they don't care for those as much. Just Disney - so I am shocked at how they feel. I think the school yr is just so crazy and scheduled, they are just really feeling the need for down time and not looking into the next few weeks when they'll be looking for stuff to do. Also, in the past we have been able to make a snap decision to go to WDW, but now it seems bookings are WAY up and we can't just grab a room and flight and go. They don't realize that, either. Gotta PLAN nowadays.

Take care,
Channing :)

I am looking in to a late Nov/Early Dec stay for just DH & I. The only thing available at GF is "Theme Park View" (listed online). In actuality, does this mean you will definitely be able to see MK, or are there some other views that also fall into this category?

Thanks!

You are guaranteed a view of the MK if you book a theme park view, but you might just get a view of Space Mountain. The castle is not guaranteed. Try to get an MK room in Conch Key or Sago Key if you book, you will have a better chance of getting a castle view.

Hi Channing -- See you are still on the Disboard:surfweb: it's so nice to hear from someone with the same addiction, and apparently the same level of addiction as I have to Disney:banana: . Wasn't the Grand 1 Cruise exceptional, we usually take it without the grandchild, (just our little personal piece of the "World"), but when we have taken him, he was impressed, which really surprised me as he takes things so "matter of fact". You were extra lucky to get an upgrade to the Walt Disney Suite :thumbsup2 , we have stayed there but no such luck with an upgrade. By the way, have you ever stayed in the Presidential Suite at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, in my opinion, it may just top the Disney Suite at the Grand Floridian, as you have the added advantage of stepping out on the balcony and viewing the animals, plus the decor of not only the suite, but the whole resort is so authenic.

If you make it in August, the change to the Boardwalk Inn will be nice (you must have been unable to book the GF) , but I think the Beach Club is the better of the two resorts. Nothing wrong with the BWI, haven't had any problems, but if the kids do change their minds, I think they would enjoy the Beach Club pool more. Like you, I was calling for August, and if remember correctly, the Beach Club, Boardwalk Inn, Saratoga Springs, and Old Key West were the AP offerings for the summer. I really wanted to do the Beach Club this time around, and am holding out for cancellations, etc., as quite often my strategies work out to my advantage, and being local Disney really helps as I can change my dates according to availability.

As you have the love  for Disney that I do, will be droping you a note from time to time to share our WDW experiences, and to get the scoop on your kids decision of Dinsey or no Disney:wave2: .

I'll get in on the rotation - even my DH says now that the GF is the only place he wants to stay when we drag him to WDW! Can't wait to be back at RPC in October!

OK!!! You and LewanC need to join. :rotfl:

DH is the same way.....he's mister frugal cheapy except WDW.(Oh, he's gonna love that I said that, haha;) ) He balked at the cost of RPC the first time around, then ever after that's all he likes. Nothing else measures up.

LewanC....Your experiences sound awesome. I LOVED the Walt suite with all the artwork and photos. Just beautiful for an art and Walt fan like me. We did a YC/GF split last yr and have only done BWI once - it wasn't a good stay, so I am not sure if DH will even want to give it a 2nd try.....that first stay was concierge, this time not. You're right, I prefer the pool at YC/BC, but there wasn't availablity. I did book that great AP rate, so limited rooms I am sure. I was checking to add on RPC for a split stay, but there is nothing. I am going in Nov to the GF, so if we don't make it this summer, Nov will have to be it.

Happy travels, everybody! Seems like so many of you will be going soon.:thumbsup2

Definitely count me in on the living arrangement!! Although as much as I love WDW, we only go every other year or so, so the kids and DH do not get burned out. Also, we really do like to do other things, and we only do one big vacation a year (and 2-3 long weekend trips, which we started instead of big birthday parties--best idea ever, byw).
So I get my Disney fix, but the kids have also been to Ireland, Honduras, cruising, etc. I would of course love to do 2 trips a year, so we could always do WDW, but that is really not financially possible!

They started rehabbing the Honeymoon Suites in RPC this week! SL is going to be started at the end of July/Beginning of August supposedly. I didn't want to be all nosy so I didn't ask about the other buildings since she didn't mention them.
On the subject of rehabs, a CM at one of the parks told us that Space Mountain is going down at the end of summer for an entire year!? :scared1: This was the first I heard of it but mabye I'm out of the loop and it is old news!?
Anyway, back to the GF, it was awesome as usual!! DD was just saying a while ago, "If we were still at Grand Floridian ,we would be having scones and banana bread right now!!"
The food was great - love the breadsticks, veggies and dips!! Also, DD loves the kettle chips! The new cappuccino machine is great - tastes better than the old one but DD was bummed because it doesn't make hot chocolate!! but you can get hot water from it and they have hot chocolate packets. The "supper" offerings were different which was nice. Some we've never had before!

Someone asked what was on the kids table and we were only there for 3 nights at the 5-7 pm time frame, but they had turkey and cheese wraps, ham and cheese wraps and Uncrustables (pb&j). We've seen chicken and fish nuggets on previous trips. They always have cupcakes, rice krispy treats and brownies offered as well.

Housekeeping was great and we remarked about what good shape our room furnishings were in - the draperies looked brand new! I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this before, but they give new chocolates at turndown! They are delicious milk chocolate and the wrapped in foil, then in an ouside wrapper that has a picture of the GF in color on the front! They are precious - almost too precious too eat. ( But we ate them anyway!) Speaking of eating, so much for the 10 pounds I lost before I left,! I gained back 3 ! We ate so much- thank goodness we walked so much but I need to get the weight back off! I was not surprised - I did not say no to anything and having those darn cheese danishes and chocolate shingle cookies everyday don't help any!

Someone was asking about the pool cabanas. There were 2 for rent and 2 that were first come, first serve, that anyone could use and just had chairs in them. No one was using the rentals at all the 3 times we went to the pool!

Laundry is calling, more later!:)

:woohoo: :woohoo: Then I shoudl for sure have a new room in Nov./Dec.! :dance3: :dance3: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Any more info. you can share? Any idea as to the actual decor? I can't believe they have started a rehab, but a room design/mock-up hasn't been leaked yet. It seems like it was fairly early in both the Poly and CR's recent refurbs that they debuted pics.

And add me to the list that will gladly take up residence in the GF! :rotfl: :thumbsup2

OMG.....How could we have left you behind, Tinkaroo??!:flower3:

I can't wait til somebody reports back what the new honeymoon rooms are like.....maybe lynr will get one - she's staying there soon I think.

Happy planning,

Ya, we go other places, too, but then we always miss Disney and while we're on vacation we think why did we go here?:rotfl: :rotfl:

We are seriously addicted. It's bad.:cool1:

No info about the decor was volunteered by either person we talked to so I didn't want to overstep any boundaries there! But you're right - the Poly and CR rehabs were pretty much out there in the open but I did kind of feel like the GF rehab is a little hush- hush! But hopefully someone will post pictures soon!

Understood.

Yes, I can't believe that there is not more of a buzz about this. I guess since they've barely begun, we'll just have to wait patiently...

Yeah right! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
