I'm heading to RPC on Thursday so I can check on the building renovations. Does anyone have anything else they want to know? ANy specific pictures? I'd be glad to snoop!

OoooH!! Lucky you! Have a wonderful time!:goodvibes :wizard:

Could you take pics of the redone RPC lounge?? Could you find out what they're doing in SL regarding the lounge situation?? I heard they will be redoing the lounge over there. How about some pics of the new Grander 1?? I heard it's absolutely fabulous and puts the old one to shame. I am curious about the outer lodges....Sago and Boca. Still hoping for the concierge cancellation, but booked an outer lodge so far.

Anything you discover is great. Don't waste your precious vacation time, but whatever you find out is appreciated as are pics.:)

Happy & safe travels,

Lives4Disney :)

I'd love pictures of anything and EVERYTHING since we've never stayed RPC. Could you see about kids tables/chairs now that it's renovated in the lounge?

There are still kids tables/chairs in the RPC lounge. They are so cute and sitting around the corner from the food by the lower flat screen tv on the wall.

Did I miss pics of the refurbished deluxe RPC rooms? I know the renovations in the main building must be complete by now, has no one posted any pics yet?
I've been laying off the vacation planning, but I'm 60 days out now and starting to get excited!

Brandt - WOW!! What fabulous pictures. I think the decor is growing on me, but it would have been nice if they kept the diff themes going. Last I heard a while ago Big Pine was being worked on - now we know it's done. Do you know about Boca Chica??? I requested Sago, but now I am not sure I don't want a "new" room. I think DS17 would appreciate the more modern gadgets (TV, IPOD dock etc)....that may soften the fact that we're dragging him along w/us. I think I would have been kinda bummed with that "lagoon view".....You're a good sport! For some reason I just never considered Big Pine as a good location....not even sure why I have that impression....others say it's so close to the mian building....how did you find the lodge's location?? How was your housekeeping??? Did you have robes??? Did they automatically do turndown??? I think I need to take a lodge request off my CRO ressie & just let the magic work for me. :)

Thanks for the review on Narcoosees! That's great! We are midwesterners, too.:goodvibes I love a good steak.:thumbsup2 I am excited to try a new restaurant....our latest "find" is Chef de France - we LOVE that place and just started (last year) booking it. In all our stays we never did Narcoosees or Cali Grill.....the concierge staff at the CR used to always try and get us up there, but having picky eater kids we steared clear and it seems we should have given it a try back when it was easier to get a table!

Glad you were able to get a room last minute and had a nice time! I know what you mean....as much as we enjoy a few other WDW resorts, the Grand feels so comfortable to us & it remains our favorite.

Thanks for the wonderful pics & info and review!:goodvibes

Tete - I'm sorry, I don't know what they were doing with SL guests. Hopefully you figure out what's going on with your room before you arrive!

Channing - It didn't look like anything was out of place in Boca Chica - guests seemed to be coming and going from there, so I don't think they were renovating it. SLC was blocked off and you could see workers through the windows and taking a break on the balcony, so it was obviously empty of guests.

Since we got the room at such the last minute, and I didn't have time to run to the DIS and ask ;) I just thought I'll go with the building they give me. Honestly, I didn't care if I was in a redone room or not, and was leery when they gave me a room in what I knew was the smoking building, but I loved having a clean, new room. My DH went nuts over the ipod dock - I have no doubt your son would love it, as well as the flat screen.

You're right, it was a pretty pitiful lagoon view, but since we were only there 2 nights and it was too hot and humid to sit on the balcony anyway, I just left it be ;)

I actually liked the location a lot. We'd only stayed in SLC previously, and the entrance felt about as close as the entrance of SLC to the main bldg - that back entrance by the cafe. Obviously it's the furthest from Gaspy's, but was still less than a 5-minute walk. What I loved was it's proximity to the courtyard pool. Literally walked out the door of the bldg and almost fell into the pool. I'm not sure if you'll use the pool much in November, but it was a great location for that.

Mousekeeping was fine - didn't notice any problems, but also didn't get extra toiletries or towel animals or anything (things I wouldn't even think twice about if it weren't for the DIS :teeth:).

We did have robes, which I actually used this trip. They were very nice - they're the same ones they sell in the gift shop in the main bldg. We didn't get turndown, though. I wasn't sure if it was automatic or not and didn't call about it since I wasn't sure if we'd even be out of the room enough. I did call for it at the Poly the first night, and received it the first and second nights, but not the third through the fifth nights :confused3 ;)

I really was leery of letting the GF just pick out my bldg, but other than the view it turned out great. I know how hard it is to let go of that control, though - believe me!

And I'm a terribly picky eater, though I've gotten a bit better over the last couple of years, and this year we ate at both Narcoossee's and Cali for the first time, and I loved the filets I had at both. I think I might've even liked the Cali filet a little better (because of the sauce), but they were both outstanding. That's probably the only thing that might appeal to a picky eater on either menu, though. Oh, and my next must-try restaurant is Chefs de France - we had an ADR this time that we were too tired to keep. But I definitely want to get there next time!

I hope you have a great time in November - if you don't end up with concierge, you'll love it anyway. We absolutely did, and I'd stay garden view in a heartbeat - as a matter of fact, I think that's what we're going to do next year.

Brandt - thanks for all that great info.:) I wonder why the turndown issue? THAT is just something I do really really appreciate every eve. I guess I will call first thing and request it. We had issues with it at YC and Swan, too. Unpredictable & inconsistant. I guess it's those little things with housekeeping that I would be disappointed in if they don't happen. The housekeeping in concierge has always been terrific. We have even had some of the same mousekeepers and they remember us and always leave us extra everything. So nice. :goodvibes I hope you're not too bummed to be home. :flower3: Sometimes it feels good, other times I feel so gloomy to be home after a WDW trip.

Denise - I didn't forget about you and the router.....DH now says sometimes he brings it/sometimes not. We have stayed in 4409 to 4401. If you're closer to the lounge (4409), no problem....he cannot remember exactly what rooms we were in when we used it in the lounge. He also has a cellular modem...so too many factors to remember. For me, it always worked.....never knew there was any issue because DH always makes it work and that's all I notice.;) He had to fly out today, so I cannot get router specs from him at this time.

Our Grand Gathering Wishes cruise has been canceled -- so now I'm wondering if the Grand 1 is a possibility for us. Does anyone have the details? Like how many can fit, cost, how to reserve etc?

Thanks

Yea- Can you make sure the grey/green meat on a stick is gone from the evening offerings by the time we get there in December!!:lmao:

Seriously, if you notice any new evening offerings, I would love to know! Or any new food ,for that matter!

Hope you have a wonderful trip!!:)

There is a new yacht as of this spring/summer. It is larger than the previous one.....I believe it will fit 15 to 16, but not positive because I forgot the exact limit! The CMs told me it is absolutely fabulous and even more beautiful than the previous Grand 1. I think it's $450/hr and you might have to book a minimum now. You call the marina 90 days in advance to book it. We took the "old" Grand 1 out last summer and it was a really special thing to do. Very nice.:wizard:

Happy planning,

Lives4Disney :)

Thanks for the report - glad you had a great trip! We are nonsmokers and have requested a nonsmoking floor before because we love Big Pine and its proximity to the Main building and themed pool! I think the smoking part scared people off from staying there and we actually requested Big Pine non smoking and always got an MK view! We never had a smoke smell in our room. I guess it doesn't matter now that its all Non smoking!

Love Narcoosees filet as well!:)

Grey/green meat on a stick is still there every 3rd or 4th night. The variety was much better this last trip (few days ago).

Thats good to hear ( about the variety I mean)! They added a few new things when we were there in June but the meat on a stick was still there...

Can't wait to try the grey meat! ;) :confused3 :rotfl:

There will be plenty left for you to try!!:lmao: ;)

The meat on a stick is a GF concierge lounge staple...unfortunately! DH eats anything and even he said it was gross! It's about the only thing we don't like though! The scones and chocolate covered strawberries definitely make up for it!:)

Tete, when we stayed during the last renovation, we were told that our room would be in Conch Key. When we arrived, they had literally just re-opened Sugar Loaf to guests. Our room was missing a few items and the bellhop ran around trying to gather them up for us. Hopefully it will all work out for you, either getting into a brand new Sugar Loaf or an upgrade into RPC. By the way, I'm in Haverhill almost every Saturday (4 - 6pm) while my son skates. If you ever wanted to, we could hook up at Dunkin Donuts and talk Disney :thumbsup2 .

minniesota, have an awesome time at the GF. Can't wait to hear all about it when you get back. I may be hitting you up for some Minnesota information soon. That's where Nationals are for skating this year (St. Paul to be specific). We still have to go through sectionals first, but we're keeping our fingers crossed.

Are the afternoon tea offerings in the RPC lounge similar to what you'd find in the Garden View Lounge afternoon tea? I'm looking for something special to do with my daughter, I thought that and maybe a manicure would be fun.

We will be arriving at the GF 1 month from today for our daugthers surprise birthday trip. I have been really excited about staying at the GF. It is the one hotel at WDW I always wanted to stay at and now we will. I must say, after reading the other GF thread I am now a little concerned. Alot of negative posts. I know on this site there are a few regular posters who only have good things to say and if anybody has anything negative to say they are immediately jumped on but 90% of the other thread has negative things to say.
I guess I will have to draw my own conclusions but I do hope I can be a HAPPY GF poster.:)

I am so ready for my next GF trip , it will be December 22 through January 1 with my sister and her 2 little girls. Even though I am also going to WDW with my son and his buddy to the AKL for November 1 through November 24, I'm really excited to read the GF news too so thanks everyone.
