I just read on the allears newsletter about a photographer that takes you through the GF for a portrait session. Anyone ever done this? I think I will call to get some more details, it didn't sound that expensive.

Allears.net 8/21 newsletter now has prices and more info

I was looking at the pictures of the GF at Christmas time on a "Pictures of resorts at Christmas"thread. It was from a few years ago, and I was wondering if the decorations stay the same or if they incorporate new decorations in each year? My hopes are set for Thanksgiving/beginning of Dec. 2008!

I have the Relive the Magic DVD's. They were filmed during the Holidays 2005. We visited the Grand Floridian last year during the holidays 2006. It was pretty much the same set-up from 2005 to 2006. The main lobby is incredible to behold. Once we get closer to the holidays, there is a Disney for the Holidays tv show on Travel or Food networks hosted by Raven Simone. You get a good look at the GF in that also.

The Victorian theme decorations have not varied much over the years. The only thing that I have noticed, is that the tree in the lobby got much skinnier. It's still tall, but definitely not as wide as it used to be.

There is also one on the Travel Channel with Samantha Brown that shows a lot of the deluxe resorts plus the parks. It is a few years old, but most of the decorations are similar. (Except AKL which no longer does a gingerbread display :sad2: )

Isn't there a Samantha Brown Xmas show that is all about the GF???? I am not positive just remember around Thanksgiving last year watching it and getting soooo excited about spending Xmas at WDW. Maybe it was GF and parks?? I remember that they showed a whole lot of the Grand during that show, but I think it was an hour long so maybe it's just the Grand part that stuck with me, haha.

Happy planning!!!

Cinderumbrella!!! YOU LEAVE SOON!!!!! Have a wonderful magical time!:wizard:

Same show as the one Kristin (Cinderumbrella) referenced. She was staying at the GF, so there's quite a bit of the tree, lobby, gingerbread house, etc. Can't remember if there are pics of the rooms or not. Of course, there's the regular GF "Great Hotels" episode for that. :goodvibes

Have a great trip, Kristin!

And welcome home to all those that have recently returned, and thanks for sharing your experiences. :flower3:

I seem to remember reading that the Travel Channel will be doing the show with the GF on August 27. Can't remember what time, tho.

You have to upload your photos to a photo sharing site. We can't view photos on your hard drive.

Once you have your photos uploaded to a site like Photobucket, then you would copy the img file from the photo site and paste it into your post. It works really well once you get the hang of it. Post back or PM if you need a hand.

We are staying at the GF this November with two kids 10 and 7. We have planned to go back to the hotel for at least 2-3 hours during each day. The pool is the obvious thing to do, if warm enough, but what else should we look into doing at the hotel?

Rent water mice. For some reason not many people do in cooler weather. You might have Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake to yourself. It is great fun.

Or rent a pontoon and have a picnic lunch out on the lakes.

Happy planning.:thumbsup2

When the pool was closed due to t-storm (the only time during our stay, luckily!) the kids had a great time at the arcade....they had so much fun there that we had to promise them another go while mom and dad were having parents dinner out! I hope the weather is warm enough for swimming though, because the pools are really lovely at GF. Have fun and enjoy your stay!:cool1:

OK, ladies, tomorrow we are outta here!!!!!!!!!!!

Any requests for photos?? (Not staying conceirge(sp?) so can't do the RPC lounge- at least without being thrown out of it! ;) )

Thanks for all the well wishes!! Send all the pixie dust you can that the weather holds out!! We have had some nasty storms up here in Chicago the past few days which is wreaking havoc on our airports...

Have fun! Hopefully the storms we have today don't last too long and you can get out of the aiport tomorrow! I live in Sycamore, IL and we are flooded in parts here too (I could do the back stroke in my ditch here...hopefully it doesn't get too much closer to my house!) I had to pick my mother-in-law up from O'Hare yesterday. Thank God, I made her do an early morning flight instead of the late/early evening flight! It's awful here. How I wish I'd be there tomorrow too! Happy Anniversary! And YES YES YES pictures please. I have my first visit to GF in October. I want pics of EVERYTHING!!!! Have fun and give us a trip report when you get back!

Kristen, have a ball! Take pics of whatever you like & I am sure we'd all love to see whatever you have.:goodvibes

We are about 1.5 hrs NW of Chicago. DD and I were in Costco and were told that there was a funnel cloud spotted south of us. UGH!!! We booked out of there - scary scary weather. We have had a really crummy summer weatherwise. Hope your flight out a here etc. is all good.:) Safe travels!!

MickeyMaz - We love the pontoon boats. They are fun for an hour or so. Lotsa laughs. My kids also like to monorail shop - go hotel to hotel and check out the shops. My son is the arcade aficianado and didn't care for GF's(too small & not great games) or Poly's (too many broken games) but he LOVES the CR's arcade - and not that he cares much anymore, but with many games there you can win tickets for prizes (he used to win stuff for his younger sisters & they'd love that & some of it is not just junk:upsidedow ). CR is just two monorail stops away. Or try all three arcades.;) See which you all like best. The GF pools are great and never over crowded. Have fun!! We'll be there in Nov, too. Great weather at that time of year.:thumbsup2

Hi everyone!! Just back from our CR Atrium Club stay! We really enjoyed it - the Concierge CM's are wonderful and the MK view we had from our room is the absolute best from any deluxe, IMHO. I wrote a short trip report on the CR Info thread on page 167 if anyone is interested.

We also had a great time at Universal and the Hard Rock was great - we actually liked it better than the Portofino for our family - it was so much fun!

Now to start planning our December GF trip! :)
