The *New* Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa Frequently Asked Questions (FEB2004) Part 2

Heather, sounds like a magical trip but sorry to say, that the CM that said they do it for everyone is totally clueless. Maybe he was referring to the balloons, as that is about the usual. Now certainly concierge guests will get more than standard room guests but yours was pretty much over the top.

Glad you had a great time.

Hi! I don't know how to quote from different posts, so I'll just do my best to answer questions. As far as a specific room request, you can call up CRO and have them put that information into your reservation. That way, room control can pull it up from your reservation.

Fairy_Tale_Bride (Lindsey) on this group works for Disney now helping with special events, so you might want to PM her to see what all they have. Here is the Disney Florist link that she sent to me:
http://www.disneyflorist.com/

But I know that the white chocolate Mickey/Minnie comes from Private Dining - we saw a menu card in our room where we could have ordered one.

I am not sure whether you would order the rose petals from the florist and have them send it to the concierge staff to set up or what, but I bet that someone there could help with that.

In the past, we've never even gotten the balloons, so it was all a huge shock for us :) A very pleasant shock, though. I loved my anniversary present, too; I couldn't believe it when I walked into the room and saw an almost-lifesize portrait of our Molly.

Cheers!
Heather W

FYI about those deluxe rooms: I was told yesterday when I called CRO (I spent half my day on the phone w/ Disney yesterday!) that the 2-queen deluxe rooms usually book at least a year ahead now that people know about the value (only 10-15 dollars more) ...

I am not someone who likes to (or can really) book that far ahead, and I am not also not one to just take whatever is thrown at me as available either. 6 months is about the max for us. We were also looking for Dec. '08 (weren't thinking about booking yet though) and I noticed no RPC available.

:grouphug: Sorry to hear about this. Hope everything goes OK & you heal quickly. That's awful it was postponed at the last minute.

I know it's important to have something to look forward to and your Disney trip is the perfect thing to get you thru. :grouphug:

Cheer up! :wizard: Let us know how you're doing. Hope you don't have to postpone, but if you do, Disney World will still be there waiting for you.

Hi Jenins -- So sorry to hear of your surgery and that it had to be postponed. I know it was a disappointment as you were ready for tomorrow, but look at the luck you had in getting your LeCellier reservations.

You said you needed some magic pixie dust to change your luck, well I'm going to pray that you get angel dust spread all around you. My cousin will be in the hospital for surgery on the 14th, as I say a prayer for her successful surgery and recovery, I will ask that a special blessing to be sent your way for a complete and speedy recovery.

Keep looking forward to your WDW trip. WDW is the perfect place for rest and recuperation. I know all will work out fine.

Heather, thanks so much for posting about your trip. It looked like a wonderful experience. Reading about it made me tear up, especially the picture of your baby and the lovely orchid. I'm glad the took steps to make things right for you. :goodvibes

Jenins, I hope everything works out for you. Best wishes! :wizard:

Ugh - so sorry to hear this! Completely unacceptable! :sad2:

If it makes you feel better, when I booked all my own reservations for our Dec. trip (and we're a huge group, so I was booking under the 180+10 rule with Group Dining), I was able to get everything at the 190-day mark, minus CRT. The great CM I was working with at Group Dining said it was common for only a couple of tables to be released before the 180-day mark, and to call back at the 180-day mark from when we wanted to dine. I did, and got the reservation with no problem. :thumbsup2

Heather, your trip sounded divine! :cloud9: I'm so glad they made everything so special for you and your DH this time around. And thanks for posting pics of your room - DH and I are booked in one of the RPC Honeymoom rooms in Nov/Dec, and have requested one of the octagonal rooms. I'm glad to see what it looks like with the refurbishment (although I'm sad to see the old decor gone :sad1: ). I was really hoping for some different theming, but it looks like that bland comforter will be in every room. I can live with the TV being exposed, but those rooms need COLOR!

I'll reserve total judgment until I see it myself, but I'm very underwhelmed. I'm already holding a reservation for next Dec. for a few nights (likely splitting with BWI or AKL), and I just wonder if I'll feel like staying there if I hate the room decor (and paying those prices). Time will tell, I guess!

:wizard: :wizard: for your surgery, and a  , too. I certainly hope your trip will be able to go forward - particularly now that you have that Le Cellier reservation! :thumbsup2

Thank you all for your kind words.

It said to call CRO so I'm thinking and Hoping that the 2008 prices just aren't in the system yet!
And I thought I was the super-planner this time because I was booking this trip almost a year out!:lmao:
I'm with you Lives4Disney, we always plan 4 or 5 months out, and for next week's trip I only booked 1 month out!

Well, I guess I'll call CRO to try and book or at least see if AAA is still available. I think we're going to do a split stay next June or July.

With the crazy rates, we'll still do RPC at GF but I think we're going to try AKL concierge and YC GVC also!:)

I haven't gone thru this whole thread, but could anyone post or point me in the direction of a photo or floor plan for the Lodge Tower rooms? Thanks!

Every once in a while I go to the Disney website and out of curiousity put in some dates etc....sometimes it says I am looking outside their booking window.:confused3 Their website is so screwy, but maybe you're right and they aren't done w/2008 rates.

I think split stays will be in our future, too. It IS kind of fun to do. I just can't stomach the cost of 9-10 RPC nts anymore and that would be the main reason for our split stays. I don't know if I have changed or what or if I am just feeling the lacking Disney service/magic because we did pay it over Xmas and spring break and many times before, but I do remember the magic was wearing kind of thin for that rate. :rolleyes1 It's tough to justify when we've stayed so many times at a much lower rate.:snooty: (love this little guy:goodvibes )

I remember 3 summers ago RPC DELUXE cost $515/nt. What a deal back then - AND it was available!!! There is a lot I love about RPC and the GF but I can deal with not being so in love with the Swan for 1/5 the cost. I am not sure I can stomach the other Disney resorts for the rates they are charging. :sad2: I LOVE the GF, that's why I would pay but I think I have reached my max.

I think I will save RPC for shorter or split stays or special occaisions.

For 2008 ->

We've been trying to get garden view for Thanksgiving 2008 (nov 22-30) and there is nothing for Thanksgiving weekend. There is no way thats possible. What I did, was book garden view for the first 5 nights w/9day passes, then a separate reservation, room only for lodge tower (the cheapest room cat avail) for the last 3 nights over thanksgiving. I figure this way I can just keep adding to my first reservation as (hopefully) garden view or whatever opens up. Something is definitly screwy w/the rooms being booked or not. I checked this am for the 26th of Nov 08, no garden view. 2 hr later, they were, an hour later, they weren't.

I haven't gone thru this whole thread, but could anyone post or point me in the direction of a photo or floor plan for the Lodge Tower rooms? Thanks!

kelly (alicenwonderln - I think that's how she spells it;) ) posted some photos of her lodge tower room. If you look at the dates of the posts, hers fall somewhere in the middle to end of July 07. Hope that helps and you can find them.....lots of pages back!

theres some cranky people on that "resorts are to much $ thread" some guy told me I should give him a break because I like stay deluxe concierge.
Hes a total tool. I was so mad! If I can afford it and want to stay that way then thats up to me. grrrrr....

Actually I thought the new room decor was really nice. The bedspreads have Tinkerbell hidden in them and the chair has hidden mickey's. There is also a mickey or two on the desk.

The table on wheels under the desk takes the place of the round table giving the room more room. I did not find the chair to be uncomfortable, just new and firm. I really liked the new carpet in the rooms and the hallways.

Also if you wish to have your frig stocked as a mini bar they will do that.

Alice no disrespect but I think he meant if you can afford it then pay it without complaining. :rotfl:

I don't think he meant you should not stay where you want to stay, just that if you want concierge and the price goes up, prepare to pay more. :thumbsup2

Kelly, ya, I saw that grump's comment.:headache: GRrrr is right. Kinda rude. :sad2: Sounds like sour grapes to me, haha. A little jealousy over there, maybe?:rotfl:

I think the peak/holiday rates are nuts at no matter which tier resort you stay, but that's just my opinion and obviously not others'. I love the GF and a nice deluxe stay;) , but I have my max I feel comfortable paying. I have been there too many times and remember the $500 days so the $990s for spring break are not doing it for ME. If I want WDW, I will stay during value season with AP or AAA rate! :goodvibes I think everybody likes a deal and a deal to me may not be a deal to somebody else.

Sammie that is good to know.:thumbsup2 I will have to just reserve judgement until I seethe rooms in person, but from pics I have seen, I really prefer the colors and themes of the old rooms.

What time were you calling? I find that after about 1 a.m. EST (or sometimes earlier) the site won't pull rates up, and tells you to call CRO (and of course, they're closed!).

Hope you get what you want today! :wizard:

Yes, these prices are truly unbelievable. It's funny how you become numb to it to a certain degree (or maybe it's just trying to justify it to yourself). As much as we love the deluxe resorts, we may find ourselves having to dip back down to moderates occasionally - we do really like CBR, and haven't stayed at POR yet. I could see us doing that with no problem on more "park heavy" trips. Our problem is that we've now come to see our resort stays as a HUGE part of the enjoyment of our trips, so it's a little harder to not be somewhere that you absolutely positively want to be. Something will have to give, though, as rates climb into the stratosphere. I wish I was enamored with the S/D, but I'm just not. Our one experience there was fine, but nothing memorable, and some parts just downright irritating. I think I'd prefer to stay at CBR before I went back to the S/D!

I am really thankful for my DVC now - just wishing now that I hadn't coughed up all my points for the next 2 years to bring my family this Dec.!

maybe but theres better ways to say it
Give me a break... please I thought it was rude but said nothing til others did
so I wasnt the only one who thought it was rude

I can afford it but it doesnt mean I dont think its to much$$ and I do think Disney is pricing alot of families outta even value stays, but this is just my opinion. :thumbsup2

There's not too much I really don't like about the S/D.....D because of double beds. Cannot do that. No way. I would not sleep. Queens are bad enough. Other than that & bus transportation to MK, I think I can be happy just being in WDW in a deluxe (S/D) for a rate I think is a great deal. I also really do like the location. Can you share what you really don't like about S/D?? Just curious. Since it's March it will be beautiful, but not warm for swimming & we won't miss SAB, so S/D is fine and for that rate which is about 1/2 of what a standard WDW deluxe is costing. I know what you mean about the resort being a large part of the stay. That's exactly how we always felt and why we really want a deluxe. I just don't think I could enjoy myself out in the parks knowing I have a $1K/nt room waiting for me, haha. I think 1K for a standard room is sick - especially one I have been in many times for lots less $$$. I would pay that for some WOW factor gladly, but to me it is like "Been there, done that" and glad I did, I love it & it's comfortable and nice, but not for the money they are charging and getting.

I might change my mind and stay home with my holiday homebody kids.:) They may just decide Easter at home is the better option anyway. I am having trouble getting thrilled about S/D option but then again it's a long way out! I just felt pressure to commit to book due to the WDW rates and the nice Swan rate available now. Maybe a split stay is in my future for spring. Time will tell.

I haven't gone thru this whole thread, but could anyone post or point me in the direction of a photo or floor plan for the Lodge Tower rooms? Thanks!

I see that you found some photos, and I have provided a link for the floor plan in case you didn't have that yet. It has the layouts for all the GF rooms, so just click on the "tower room" one and it will bring up a new screen with a larger photo of it. If you are like me, it is nice to see a floorplan in combination with actual photos! HTH!

Where are LV vs Theme Park View rooms at the GF? Any GV have a view of the monorail? I think we're changing to Feb 2-9, and the CR is sold out.
