We brought a twin inflatable mattress and it fit fine (very little room to spare, though) between the bed and door. During the day, we propped the mattress against the wall.

I believe that the last time POR had room refurbs was in 2005. We stayed at POR last summer and the rooms were showing wear and tear. We are thinking of another POR stay in 2011 and am hoping that by then the room will have been updated. Does anyone know if POR is slated for room rehabs any time soon?

Yes, they filed a permit the week of June 15th to start "guestroom renovations" on Building no. 95 and 24.

Thank you for the information! That's good to know!! I look forward to seeing what the renovations will include (new paint? new bedding? new carpets???).

POR and POFQ are a natural tie-in with Princess and the Frog and I wonder if they will make a Princess and the Frog section like they have a Pirate section of rooms at CBR. Any renovations, whether related to the movie or not, will make me happy. :goodvibes

With the permit being filed for renovations does that mean that work would begin immediately or in the far future? Is it possible that any work would be completed by October?

The permit allows them to start work within one year from the approval date, and I rather doubt anything much will happen during the peak months. There is a similar permit for French Quarter building 7 from the end of March, and as far as we know no work has been done yet.

There is also no information as to what Disney are planning - could just be a new coat of paint for all we know.

How do you request or know which building you will be in? And how often do you actually get what you request?
Thanks!!

Put your requests in with your original booking, and possibly reinforce them with a call or fax directly to the hotel a few days before you arrive.

How lucky you are is a bit random, some people do fine while others say they get exactly the opposite of what they wanted! I'd say that well over 50% seem happy with what they get though.

Last time (Feb) we got two perfect rooms - right down to being in a block of four rooms that I'd suggested - but previously they've placed us right on the opposite side of the resort to what I had asked.

However, if you're not happy with what they are offering when you get to checkin (get them to show you the location on a map) then just ask to see if you can be moved. This might need intervention by a back-office manager, and maybe a wait before you can get access if the better room is not yet ready for new guests.

pirate:My family and I will be checking into POR on oct 30 2010. My daughter will be having her 1st birthday the next day 31st oct. We are going to the magic kingdom, where we have booked a character meal at the crystal palace to celebrate. Our other daughter will be 7 yrs old. We know that the park will close early that night for the halloween party, but we have chosen not to do it this year as we will probably be still suffering some jet lag. (we are from the UK).

Will there be anything going on at the resort or anywhere else in the worlds that would satisfy our 7 yr old for a few hours after leaving the park????

You'll be just a short boat ride away from DownTown Disney.
They have things going on there all the time.

I'd take the boat to DTD. The boat ride is fun and relaxing. At DTD, there's lots of fun shops and places to eat or you could just get ice cream at Ghirardellis. Our favorite! :cloud9:

If you didn't need to go back to the resort after MK and wanted to save some time, take the bus from MK to DTD. Perhaps your 7 y/o will have a costume she can wear around DTD? There will be lots of folks in costumes mulling around that night too. Makes for some great people watching. Then take the ferry back to POR for an enjoyable night-time cruise. Have fun!!

Ditto!

My friend was staying at the THV last year and they walked over from SSR on Halloween night, since MK was so crowded and they enjoyed DTD. There were a lot of kids dressed up for Halloween and she said it was so much easier to get around there. Then they took the water taxi back.

Have fun.

We arrived on Halloween during our November 2009 trip and went to DTD after our traditional first night dinner at Boma. We had a lot of fun watching all the kids and adults in costumes.

Unless things have changed recently, there is no bus service between the parks at DTD. Disney stopped it a few years back, presumably to prevent people from using the DTD parking lot as free parking for the theme parks.

Not correct; buses to and from DTD haven't run to the parks, because people were using DTD as free parking for the parks.

I usually get on the monorail and use the bus from whichever resort it stops at first.

Strange, I guess my eyes were deceiving me when I saw them during my trip in April.

Hi all... I have a room request question.

So, I did a mock reservation the other day (went as far as I could on the WDW website, with out actually making the reservation)... The only spot I found for requests only allowed 29 characters. Is that the spot you make your room requests - and if so, how do you fit it in? Or is there another place with in the reservation system that you make requests?

TIA! :)

D~

We have 3 adults in our room. Does POFQ offer/permit roll-away beds? This would just make us more comfortable.
Thanks!

Yes they do, subject to availability of course. You will already be paying a third-adult surcharge in the room price so there shouldn't be any charge for the extra bed as far as I know.
