You can't request specific buildings (or anything much else useful, to be honest) using online checkin so you'll need to make sure that your requests are already listed in your original booking.

If you want to contact the resort by phone or fax before you arrive, don't bother any sooner than five days before you checkin (as they won't have your details yet) and for single rooms I'd suggest 1-2 days beforehand, getting slightly longer if you have more than one room booked.

Back from our first (but definitely not last) stay at POR. We loved it!
Here are some thoughts...
Take the boat to POFQ. We tried out their pool and tasted some biagnets.(sp?)

If it looks like possible storms and you are going to DTD, plan on the bus. The boat stops if there is any lightening.

The boat WILL put your children to sleep! Not sure if it's the sound or the vibration, but worked every time.

We stayed in bldg 15 and several times we walked around without seeing anyone else until we got to the bus stop or the food court! It was amazing how quiet it was!!

Yeehaw Bob is a hoot! Put in a load of laundry then stop in to see him for a few minutes... he's worth it.

The gift shop does not have an eyeglass repair kit but they DO have super glue and scotch tape, which works in a pinch.

The grounds are beautiful! Take the time to walk around, or use a surrey bike or carriage.

Thanks to everyone who recommended POR, it was awesome!:thumbsup2

Our first disney trip is less than 20 days away and I CANT wait to get to POR to check it out!

A Few quick questions:

I have seen a ton of pictures of the main pool, and the quiet pools- but I have never seen a pic of the little kids shallow pool (they have one right?) Is it just attached to the main pool?

How deep is the water in the slide area? Do you have to know how to swim to go down the slide, or could I catch my 4yo after he goes down?

Can we bring a beach ball in the pool? Can we buy one at the resort gift shop?

CREATIVE HELP NEEDED-------
My sister and her family (4yo,9yo,12yo) are arriving at POR 3 days after we leave. I would LOVE to hide something somewhere around the resort and give my nieces and nephew clues to find whatever I hide-

What should I try to hide? (I was thinking a penny, but would love other ideas)

Where can I hide it?

OH-Also, Would I be able to leave a small gift for them at the front desk on the day we check out (Thursday) and ask them to give it to my sister on their check in day (Sunday)

Thanks!

The kiddie pool is in the same location as the main pool called Ole' Man Island.

I have not seen beach balls at Fulton's, but I wasn't ever looking for one.

With the lush landscaping, I would refrain from hiding anything around the grounds. There are critters, such as frogs, snakes, etc. I would not see it as a very good idea having a young one trying to wade into the landscaping looking for a penny and come face-to-face with a snake.

You can leave packages at Guest Services, right outside the front door. You have to mark it with their full name and date and time of arrival.

Please excuss me as I didn't read through this thread as it is long

I did read in the first post this about the trundle bed

Alligator Bayou double-bedded rooms (only) also feature an extra pull-out trundle bed which allows this section to sleep five people. Note: the trundle bed is smaller than a normal single bed and so is really only suitable for children up to about age ten.

That being said has anyone ever had an older teen/Adult say size 5"2 about 125lbs.??

Will that be ok or are they going to be horribly uncomfortable??

Our son and our nephew swapped back and forth with the trundle. They were 16 and 17 at the time, and around 6' tall, 130 - 140 lbs
They slept OK until one of us would open the door and "accidentally" hit the trundle when trying to get everyone up and ready.
I read somewhere that mousekeeping can provide additional padding for the edges on request, but we never did, so I can't speak from experience.

Some people just bring an air mattress and put it on the floor instead of using the trundle.

I apologize if this question has been asked already on this thread.

How close is the parking lots to the buildings at POR? We have requested bldg 14 or 15 and I was thinking I would like to leave the stroller in the van every night. The stroller would take up so much space in the room, it would be nice to keep it in the van. However I don't want to have to walk 2 miles from the parking lot to the room every day either.

Tell me what you know :)

The trundle beds are shorter than the double beds but for the last 2 years and trips to Disney for 15 nights of our last trip my Dh fought my 15 year old for the trundle bed. My dh is 6'2" and ds is 5' 11".
They pull out the trundle.. fold up the bedspread and stick it at the top end of the trundle for extra padding and length. They both say it is more comfortable than the bed as they can really stretch out without their feet dangling off the bed,
Housekeeping will give you extra pillows and sheets.
We had a corner room last year and a regular room the previous year and had no problems with space or the door banging into the trundle.

This thread has been unbelievable helpful for our upcoming stay at POR. I am really looking forward to it. Does anyone know if there is cold water to fill your resort mug with at POR or do you have to buy bottled water?

Yes, there is chilled water at the drink fountains at the food court, and also ice too. We often fill up a bottle with half water, half ice in the morning to carry with us. It seems to be a bit less chlorinated than the water from the drinking fountains in the parks.

Thanks Andre - that is great news!!! I am hoping they might let me fill my old refillable mugs with water, since that is all I enjoy on a hot day (except of course a good frozen drink from the bar):goodvibes

Heading down tomorrow. Anyone have anything they want me to look for, take a picture of, etc.? :)

Wondering if they made any major changes to the menus in the food court. We go every 2 years and was wondering if there had been any big changes in the past few years.

Thanks so much and have a great time. We are having a blast making plans for our upcoming trip to POR. It's our favorite resort to stay, we've stayed there probably eight times or so.

We do miss the Cajun Popcorn they used to serve at Muddy Rivers several years ago.

This posting is just so 2008... ;) Just checking and teasing you all :thumbsup2

We stopped by last year to the food court and I didn't notice any major food changes... not certain about this year though.

About two years ago, they did change the food court. They have a make-your-own pasta bar and salad bar, as well as a few sandwich choices, in addition to the regular menu. In my opinion, they are now one of the better food courts down there.

Hi All! I've tried the search tool and still can't find the answer to my question.....is there a rental car desk at POR? I'm thinking of renting a car, just for one day, to go to Sea World and I wasn't sure if I could do it right there. Please help. Thanks!!1 ;)

There is no rental car desk at POR, however, you can have the Alamo shuttle bring you to the on property rental center to get your car, and, when you return the car, you can get a ride back.
They can help you with this at the Concierge desk.

As a side note, how are things up in Augusta?
Keeping the Governor honest?

We will be staying for 2 nights at POR in June before moving over to the Poly.

I just found out that Yee Haw Bob is only there Wed-Sat, we'll be there Mon and Tues and won't have a chance to get back for the rest of the stay to see him.

Last year we stayed at POFQ and walked over the night we checked in just to see him and it was so much fun. This year we'll have the grandkids and I know they would love him.

If I change the schedule one more time I might lose my mind :sad2:

Does POR often pizza delivery like some of the other resorts? What does it cost if you have the dining plan? If not are you able to use 2cs to get the large pizza in the food court?

We will be there during the Lost finale and was thinking about just getting a pizza for dinner that night to eat while watching TV.

We are coming in on Saturday May 22nd- Just want to confirm the yeehaw bob will be there that night- and If I read his schedule right he starts at 8:30pm right?

Is it normally crowded? Do we need to get there early to get a space?
