We ALWAYS stay deluxe for $575 to $675 a night but this year hasn't been great for our business and if we are going to make an '09 trip we are going to have to scale down. We really prefer a two-room set-up so that some can sleep while others are up so we typically book a deluxe or jr suite. We tried it at a waterview room at BC once and ended up being very grumpy a lot. We have stayed BC, YC & WL but my family's hands down favorite in WL. Two standards at WL would be $550 (the deluxe at WL is a beter deal IMHO because of the sitting room & club level features).

So...we are considering two rooms at POR. The only thing that gets me big time is the no balcony thing. You know, somewhere the little ones can be and not worry about them or relax with your coffee in private. This is the only thing that is making me consider just foregoing an '09 trip and saving our money for a 2010 trip. We spend A LOT of time at the resort and I can't imagine being cooped up in the room all the time.

Please help me get past this...

I need someone to convince me that I won't MIND not having the private balcony.

going November 16-23!! Yay!! It will be me, dh, ds-7, ds-5, ds-3, and dd-1! I do have a question about refillable mugs- is there apple juice or something for the kids to get or just soda?

just a add In, we were at pop this year and they had the taller thiner mugs, when we were there (POR)in 2007 they had the fatter shorter mugs we pefferd those much more, do they still have those?

First: POR is great for the outdoors feel especially if you are over in AB and it will have the Wilderness feel. If you get a room on the second or third floor you can have the rail that is right out side to give the balcony feel. As for an area for the kids...can't help with that one, except that there is an awesome play ground at this resort and a huge arcade. I like to go out to the railing and enjoy my coffee, or walk about in the gardens and such near my room. I wouldn't cancel a trip for a balcony....I love POR and I think that you will too if you look at the positive side, everyone including myself are having problems with the economy and scaling back is a reality for my honeymoon as well. Have fun

AS someone who thought WL was the only place on earth that could make us happy, I have to tell you that we LOVE POR....... Stay home or POR??? NO question...... POR

If you get a room on the second or third floor you can have the rail that is right out side to give the balcony feel.

Grin, you might find yourself on the roof then as AB has only two stories but I agree that the upper floor is great for leaning on the railing and watching the world go by.

I really don't understand why people get told this. We've stayed in AB in 9 out of 10 trips to POR, and our party size has varied between 2 and 4 from year to year. I know AB is the only section that can accommodate 5 people, but how many of the 2000+ rooms at the entire resort have five people staying in them at any one time? Not 1,000 I'll wager.

Give them another call in a couple of days, or just ask again when you get to the front desk - it might help if you get there early in the day rather than checking in late in the day when the availability to swap might be more limited.

We have a one night reservation before we move to the contemporary and with the new code we moved from ASM to PO-R for less $$! Yay - looking forward to checking it out.

If you have 5 people in your room do you have to request a trundle room or is it guaranteed?

Just returned from POR 9 day stay and had a little info.
We were 1st assigned a room at Magnolia. I had brought my flashlight and did a full bed check. I was shocked to find a dead bed bug in the folds of the pillow top on one mattress. My picture came out fuzzy, but I did the research before the trip and I am 100% sure it was a bed bug. There were also dried blood stains all over the sides of the mattress. By this time I was freaked and didnt even think about getting a picture of this. They directed me back to the concierge for a new room. I told them I would prefer AB anyway if that was possible and they put us in a room that passed inspection, in fact the mattresses looked brand new.

Despite this rocky start, POR is absolutely magical and would recommend it to anyone It is beautiful and shaded, the river and boats and everything was wonderful!! It is truly special and had much more of a relaxing effect on me and a magical feel than the value resorts we have stayed at in the past. I enjoyed every minute of our time there and would return in a heartbeat!!!

Just booked quit trip for Thanksgiving at Port Orleans Riverside. This will be our first time to stay there. Just return from 9 days at CBR on Sept. 4 and we loved it, but wanted to try a different Mod. Also I have 5 people going this time. DH is going hunting, so I am bringing myself, DD, DS and 2 first timers that are 21 and 25. I hope that we like this resort b/c we live in Louisiana. So I hope that it is not to much like being at home. But hey its DISNEY so I am sure it will be great. Also it sure is hard to get ADR when booking a quick trip for the holidays. Also a question. Are all the buildings in Alligator Bayou have the trudle bed? If not does anyone know which buildings have the trudles? Thanks to all.

In theory, all double rooms in AB (but not King bed rooms) should have a trundle bed fitted as standard. I've heard one or two people say that they're not sure about this, but I'd be interested to hear anything specific?

I have never been to Louisiana, but Disney makes the POR a totatly Disney experince and I can not Imagin any one not falling In love with POR. I do belive that all Alligator Bayou has the trudle beds. Enjoy

What is the campfire thing and will it take place in January?

Can you take a boat to downtown Disney?

Also, what is AB as far as room location is concerned?

Yes, no problem at all. The charge is the same whether you bring our own equipment or not though. Like all of WDW's fishing, it's catch-and-release.
