Since I refuse to pay the preferred room upcharge, what do you guys think of building 16 in AB? We need a trundle, so I assume we'll get AB. We'll have our car and drive to Epcot and HS. 16 look close to parking and the main building. Any thoughts? :confused3

Thanks so much!

We are in the same boat. Adding the preferred location would be an extra $350 for our trip. We are also requesting AB and thought the same thing about Building 16. Any other locations (not preferred) in AB that might not be too bad?

Building 16 is fine, right next to a quiet pool and not a long walk to the food court.

Andre,
Any other AB buildings that would be good? I know that without updgrading to preferred we won't be in the closest buildings but would like to be a manageable distance from the bus stop, food court and pools. Trying to avoid the "mom are we there yet"!

Thanks ...
Hopefully they will be FAST ... I know we were there just last week and all of building 7 was already done (they were thinking one building per month and they started the first week of Nov. but were done by the third week.)
Are the trundle beds only in certain rooms ... I thought all of riverside could fit five in a room?

All of the double-bedded rooms in the Alligator Bayou section should have a trundle bed as standard. Kind bed rooms do not though.

As for other good locations in the AB section beyond the preferred buildings and lodge 16, have a look at the map in the first posting in this thread for some more ideas of which might work best for you. Satellite maps are also a great way to get an idea of the layout - check out www.portorleans.org/maps-and-directions.php for some links.

Is there any hope at all that any of the buildings will be renovated by the time we are there in early April ??? We only have four in our family and would rather stay in the french quarter because of the queen sized beds but have to stay in riverside because one of the families joining us has three kids. Thanks for any info ...

Do all the rooms on the French Quarter side have queen beds? I did not know there were any queen beds at POR. :)

No queen beds at POR yet. The POFQ rooms are currently being renovated with queen beds. Hoping for the same at POR!

From the start of 2011, building 14 will considered to be one of the four "preferred" room category buildings, and there is now a premium price surcharge for those areas. By paying the extra charge, you will be guaranteed a room in one of buildings 14, 15, 18 or 27, and you could then request building 14 as your ideal choice.
Andre

Do you know whether all the rooms in buildings 14, 15, 18 or 27 will be "preferred" or is there still a slim chance that a non-preferred booking (like ours) will get a room in one of those buildings?

I understand that once they have completed the refurbs at French Quarter they will move onto Riverside..............has anyone seen anything about the room decor? Any confirmation that they will do the haunted mansion rooms!?!
Debx:woohoo:

Sorry, nothing has been confirmed. We do know they are due to start work on the Riverside mansion buildings in April, so hopefully some more info may leak out in the Spring. The special room options were just from a survey, no one knows whether Disney intend to go forward with the idea or not.

Andre

So the rehab work is supposed to start in April, does anybody know when it is supposed to be finished? We were thinking next Christmas and if POR has queen beds, I know where we will be staying!!!

The whole project is set to take 12-18 months. By next Christmas I would have thought that all of the Riverside mansion buildings should be done, and they may even have started on some of Alligator Bayou by then.

Andre

That would be GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!
We are going down for Spring Break and would love to have queen sized beds.
I was down there two weeks ago when they opened up building seven at PORFQ and they looked WONDERFUL !!!!!!!!!!!

I mistakenly posted this on the french quarter site instead...
This is going to be our first at POR. i know the Poly has buildings to stay away from because you couldn't see the castle or you were FAR off in la la land. we ended up in Fiji and loved it!! What are the best building to stay in? i don't mind paying the extra 15 or whatever it is.we are going in November 2011.
i have a family of 5 (me Husband and 6 year old Triplets) going with a family of 4 hoping to stay close together.
I see they are doing a ton of renovations too. do you think this will affect me in any way?
im looking at buildings 14 18 or 27?!?
thank you!!!!

We were in 28 for our stay and it was PERFECT!!! Right by a quiet pool and laundry, not a far walk from parking or the lobby. Quiet and serene. I'd totally stay in 28 again.

We loved Building 14, right next to the main building and the main pool! We went to the main building each night to use our refillable mugs and get a snack. :)

We like being a little farther away from the main building and pool and prefer the solitude of the outlying areas of the resort. Afterall, we don't visit the main building all that much, I don't like lugging around drink cups, and the main pool is typically louder and therefore less peaceful than the quiet pools.
