I love going to WDW with first-timers and helping them see and do stuff that most visitors simply never see. Sitting on loungers on the beach at the Poly watching Wishes and the Electrical Water Pageant with friends drinking Lapu Lapus, priceless. Hmm, perhaps skip the Lapu Lapu's for the six year old though, thinking about it - a Dole Whip instead, I think.

Andre

Ah, good one.

Well, the story just gets better and better.

I had assumed since her significant other didn't move in a few weeks ago, that they had broken up and that was why she was looking for a place to stay. Her significant other was their original roommate.

Nope, I got home from work Friday night and they were all outside, and here walks out (I think I remember his name as Jeremy) with an ll month old child. She turned to me and said she had told him all about us going away to Disney.

This trip is going to be priceless; two couples, a six year old and an 18 month old, by the time we go. We are going to have a blast!:woohoo:

We'll be staying at Riverside for the first time this trip and we're soooo excited!! This will be our first stay at a Moderate ever. We've stayed at every Value at least three times so to finally be at a Moderate is beyond thrilling. :yay:

We will be first timers at POR, first timers to WDW and first timers to Orlando :cool1: In fact it is going to be a trip of a life time for us as we come all the way from New Zealand! :cheer2:

The Disney Parks Blog has just confirmed that the much anticipated 'Royal' themed rooms will be coming to Port Orleans Riverside during the upcoming refurbishment.

One-quarter of the resort's room capacity will be given over to these new themed rooms, see the Refurbishment Updates page for more details and concept art.

Guests will be able to begin booking these new Speciality Rooms mid-summer 2011 for visits commencing March 2012.

No indication has yet been given as to how much these rooms will cost compared to standard rooms, but this is Disney so you know there will be a premium!

Here's an additional link about the newly themed rooms. They look great!

I have no idea why the DIS would block links to the Disney Parks official website (I assume that's where you were trying to link to?) and I stopped trying to get my head around all that political stuff ages ago - life's too short for those sort of games. Best if we don't get into it here, keep that off the forums.

There are links to Disney's offricial posting from my pages if anyone's interested.

I had no idea my link would be blocked. Sorry it didn't work. Anyway, there is a photo of a new room on the link and it looks nice. The Contemporary Resort is getting some newly themed rooms, too.

ETA: I think this link http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2011/04/specialty-rooms-will-give-guests-the-royal-treatment/ should work OK.

That's great but... WHERE ARE THE HAUNTED MANSION ROOMS???? Come on Disney! You released the sketch so there is no turning back now! ;)

Since all of the Pirate themed rooms at CBR went into one section....Is it possible that all of these rooms will be in the same location? It would seem to make sense that they would all go into mansion buildings as the Princess theme would be out of place in AB.

Judging by Andrew's unofficial timeline, it would appear that the Royal Themed Rooms could possibly be located in Partierre Place or Oak Manor. The site states that the rooms debut's by March 2012 and Andrew's timeline places Partierre Place completing in Feb 2012 and the Oak Manor completion date as March 2012.

It's a bummer about the Haunted Mansion Rooms. If they were planning any of those, I expect that we'd have heard about them too.

Oh My! This is gorgeous! Thanks Andre! Pretty sure this will not be installed in AB section, right?

Love the royal rooms! Too bad we can't get one this June, because it might be three years before we get back. By then the girls will be 15 and 12, but knowing them I have a feeling a princess room will still be alright.

Yuck.

I heard from some of the staff at POR that the new rooms are going in the Mansions section, but that AB will get a complete makeover.

I was hoping for HM rooms too... :sad1:

That actually makes quite a lot of sense, as Parterre and Oak would have been my first guesses for the locations of any Specialty Rooms anyway (being the furthest away from the main area). 512 rooms is exactly two complete mansion buildings, and it wouldn't make sense to separate the themed rooms too far in terms of housekeeping requirements, etc.

I had been trying to figure out why the latest info that I was getting did not match with start dates that had been discussed before... but if they are now allowing some extra time for the Royal room fittings to be prepared, that might be the final piece of the jigsaw.

Anyway, this is what I have been told recently - but please take it as unconfirmed until we actually see the whites of the construction workers' eyes... :)

Acadian House: 19 June - 29 July 2011
Magnolia Terrace: 24 July - 2 September 2011
Parterre Place: 8 January 2012 - 17 February 2012
Oak Manor: 12 February - 23 March 2012

I'm assuming Alligator Bayou work may happen during the missing September-December period, but we'll have to wait and see.

I've heard nothing more about the Haunted Mansion Rooms idea at all - maybe it didn't score well with the surveys?

Ugggg was hoping some themed rooms in AB section for those of us with more than 2 kids

Still waiting for an announcement about the haunted mansion rooms......no interest in the royal rooms!
Debx:)

Hello!

This is a seriously long thread...I have a lot of reading to do but wanted to ask a quick question, please.

I just book (literally...minutes ago) a trip over Christmas, and because we have 3 kids, the oldest of which will be over 3, POR was our only Moderate option without getting into a two room scenario.

Are the rooms with trundle beds in any particular area of the resort? Or are they scattered around? I'm trying to figure out whether I need or should make a request to be in a particular area, now that I've requested a trundle.

Thanks for helping a newbie, I promise to read through everything but it will take some time. We stayed at Port Orleans back in 1999 for our honeymoon, in what was then called Dixie Landings. I'm not looking forward to double beds (versus Queen) but am looking forward to seeing the resort again.

By Christmas about half of the rooms will have been refurbished to include queen beds, so you might be lucky... we don't know anything about a timescale for the Alligator Bayor rehab yet though.
