Ya thats what I hered, but untill you get there you never know? it its just one more thing in the back of my head to wonder!!. Why the mouse cant talk to me!!!:rotfl2:

I hear you on that one! With all of the stories going around about folks paying for preferred and not getting it, it makes me very nervous. :)

We are going for our first stay at POR in October. Does anyone have any experience with either 38 or 37? Looks like they are both close to north depot and old man island. A little farther away from the food court but doesn't look too bad if you go across the island. Since the closer buildings are now preferred and cost more I wanted to choose something that was still a good location. So how was the location of either 37 or 38?

Hoping someone can help. If I book a river view room, what are the chances of getting one on the mansion buildings? I really want to stay in one and want to maximise my chances. Thanks.

You make a request to stay in the mansions, just don't request a specific building and your chances are greater.

Does anyone know if any of the mansion buildings should have refurb finished by end of November? Which building is slated to have the refurb done first?

TIA:)

I'm not sure if they count the lake facing buildings as "riverview" or not. but most of the truly riverview rooms are in the mansions. There are a few that are AB but some of those were recategorized as preferred so there are even less now. As stated before, paying for the riverview and requesting the mansions would be the way to go. I can't believe that you'd end up anywhere else then.

The paperwork with the awarded contractor was filed last month, for Parterre Place.

At least one should be done by then; the entire refurb is expected to take 12 - 15 months, per Disney.

I just found out today that it's now extra for a preferred room. When we booked in January that was not the case. So we panicked & called to upgrade. I hope it is worth it! It's tough being a newbie!:sad2:

You'll be fine. We were all newbies at one time or another. Before you know it you'll be an old hand at this.

I'm doing a TR after my stay in a few days, so I'll be the guinea pig on paying for a preferred room and getting one. Keeping my fingers crossed I get my preferred room! :) I might have to kick up a fuss if they try to stick me in the Mansions. ;)

We stayed in 38. It was the closest to the pool/bar/playground on Old Man Island, and a quick walk to the main building with the food court going through the island - less than 5 minutes. Plus, North was close for drop off on return trips, but we usually caught the bus going to the parks from the main building depot - south I think - as that is the first stop, and sometimes the buses fill there in the a.m.

And we had a river view. :)

I'm sure that if you've paid for a preferred room then that's what you'll get. If for any reason you don't, ask them for a refund of the surcharge - or better yet, a free upgrade to River View in another building.

By the way, after you've sorted out and posted your DIS trip report, if you get chance to post just the Port Orleans related bits to the Trip Reports section on www.portorleans.org too, that'd be great!

My little site gets traffic levels of around 35,000 visits per month (16,000 unique visitors) and generates around a quarter of a million page views per month - but only a handful of those folks seem to come back and post any trip reports after they return from their vacations. I don't want to distract from anything posted here on the DIS of course, but if anyone does get a chance to add a bit of info to my site too that'd be nice. Many thanks!

Andre

We were in Lodge 38 last October. It was a very nice location. I was a little disappointed at first as we had requested to be in the Mansion section but after the first day, we loved our location being close to the main pool and having the quite pool behind our building.

That's good advice. :goodvibes

This is probably my last chance to stay there before the refurb, and since it was my first WDW resort stay I'd like to stay there again before they change everything. I will post on your site once I get everything straightened out. :)

We are going in August and staying at PORS for the first time. We are five and paid for a preferred room. What building should I request? I don't need to be super close to everything, just did not want to be too far:confused3 Is 14 too close (hectic?)

Thanks in advance!i
