The Name of Disney's next ship will be.....

Currently On board the Wonder and we have been told the next Disney ship will be " The Wish"

Not doubting that you were told this but I will believe it when I see it on the side of the new ship!!! There are always rumors of new ship names. Can you divulge who told this...server, officer, cruise director, Captain?

I just want to see a new ship, it could be named the Disney Crap and I wouldn't care, as long as it was on the west coast year round! My preference for a name would be The Disney Imagination.

It's considered bad luck to give a ship a name before it's been christened. While I certainly hope that Disney will be introducing a 5th ship, maritime tradition would prevent them from releasing or speaking the name before she's finished.

I have never heard or read this regarding a ship having a name before launching or christening. Every ship I have ever heard about the name is picked long before launching or christening. Lets face, there has to be a meeting and a name picked before the ship gets her bottom wet.

Sorry to ask the dumb question (I couldn't find it on the planning DVD) but has DCL actually ordered a new ship to be built yet? Not a standing order, an actual order?

None of the major yards have a DCL vessel in the schedule at this time, however the schedules can and do change.There is not even a rumor that a order has been signed. It makes common sense that DCL does have plans and a design layed out, based on what they want in a new class of ship.

The rumor and opinion mill is that there will again be 2 new ships, continuing the fine classic lines and design of their previous vessels. The the tonnage between the Magic and the Dream class. In service no sooner then 2018 and likely no later then 2020.

Of course time will tell!

On the Dream they paid homage to the destination given to her before she was christened; the Pub's name 687. Another superstition is the gold coin that gets dropped into the hull while they are building her...

Sorry Msidescooter, I cannot find that anywhere. They have picked the names out for ships for centuries prior to them being christened. I think what your referring to is that it is unlucky to put the name on the vessel prior to christening.

It has also been considered for centuries, to be unlucky to rename a ship.

The gold coin is a old tradition. The coin would be placed on the keel and under the foot of the main mast to bring good lucky and voyages.. Today its the keel and a main vertical structural member of vessel.
