Cast of characters--DH and me (both 25)

Dates of trip--December 31-January 7, 2001

We drove to Florida from South Carolina. We got up really early (I was excited as the people in the commercial who can't sleep) and were on the road around 7:00. The trip wasn't too bad, and we made it to Orlando around 3:00.

I wanted to get LOS passes, so I had arranged for an off-site motel our first night. The problem was that most motels were either booked or charging outrageous rates since it was New Year's Eve. I wasn't going to pay $150 for a Comfort Inn, so we ended up at a Motel 6 by Universal. I had never stayed in a Motel 6 before, but it really wasn't that bad.

(I know a lot of people would have loved to have gone to the New Year's celebrations, but this was DH's first trip, and he hates crowds. I didn't want his first impression to be that WDW is that crowded!)

Our room wasn't ready when we got there, so we changed our clothes in the bathroom by the pool and headed the Celebration. We didn't end up staying long. DH decided that he could never live in a house with a yard that small. I'm still working on him.

Our next destination was Downtown Disney, which was completely packed. PI was closed so they could prepare for that night, and people were just packed in. We did a little shopping, but we soon got sick of the crowds.

We had ressies for the Villains dinner buffet at the GF for 7:30, so we headed over there early. We wondered around the hotel for a while and then got our names on the list around 6:45. They seated us shortly after that.

The dinner was good, but we were a little disappointed by the characters. All of them except Captain Hook literally passed by our table on the way to tables with kids. Oh well.

Our plan was to watch the MK fireworks from the beach, but it was freezing the whole week. So, we went back to our motel and got a good night's sleep so that we could get a jump start on Epcot the next morning while everyone else was sleeping in.

Pembo, we enjoyed the dinner, but it probably isn't my favorite character buffet. The atmousphere is nice with carousel horses. The problem is that there is accompanying music, and it's just a little too much noise when you add the excitement of kids meeting characters.

The food was really good. I enjoyed the main buffet line, especially the strawberry soup, and DH went back to the kids' line several times. He liked the "grown up" food okay, but there were some little pizza nugget things that he couldn't get enough of.
