June 24, 2009: Day Two, Part Two But That Isnt Mickey!!
We made it to the Journey of the Little Mermaid and only had to wait a couple of minutes for them to open the doors. We were in the cool, dark theater in no time, and this show was just what we needed after sitting in the brutal heat of the Beauty and the Beast show.
I believe DH fell asleep during this show, or at least closed his eyes to most of it, but it was the second show starring a Disney Princess in a row, so I guess he had an excuse.
After the show, we checked the show times for Lights, Motor, Action, but they didnt have too many show times going on, which I was kind of sad to see, I blame it on the recession.
Instead of Lights, Motor, Action we decided to walk through the Walt Disney: One Mans Dreamwhich was something new for me. It was so neat to look through all the exhibits and history of Walts life. It really made me appreciate his vision even more.
Towards the end of the exhibit, I found my favorite newest Disney character!
WALL-E!
We knew there was a movie at the end of the exhibits, but we really wanted to do Animation Studio and draw a character, and if we wanted to make our ADR at 50s Primetime, then we had to skip the movie. Next time, I will definitely stay and watch the movie since I hear it is pretty good. Anyone who has never taken the time to walk though One Mans Dream, must do so. It is a great part of DHS that I really never knew existed.
We walked over to the Animation Studio and knew that we couldnt do the pre show with Mushu so we walked over to the Disney of Animation Store and asked a CM if we could just do the drawing class. He said we could and showed us the correct way. We walked in through the exit and saw there were quite a few people waiting for the next class.
While we waited we had fun playing the pre show game that is up on the TV screens. A computer draws Disney characters slowly and you have to guess which character it is. I wish I could play this game for money on a game show or something because I rocked at it! I got every single one right and very quickly too.
Also while we were waiting the nicest elderly woman in a wheelchair came over to talk to us when she noticed our bridal ears. She asked us about our wedding and our honeymoon and explained that she has been coming to Disney all her life and was there with her husband of 60+ years! Apparently he was talking it up with another family in line so we didnt get to meet him. The funny thing was that she was also from Illinois and was also married in June. She was the sweetest lady and so full of life. We told her that our goal is to be married just as long as her and husband and still love coming to Disney just like them.
After about 15 minutes of waiting, the doors opened to let the next class in. I really didnt think we were going to make it and I was getting anxious because the class was looking to be full. Honestly, I think when the CM saw our bridal ears, she let us go on in because we were the last two to be allowed in.
We had to sit in the front row and had drawing boards instead of a desk. When we walked in, we noticed that everyone in our row was utterly confused.
They were on their knees, using the bench as their table, and their backs were turned from the artist CM. You could imagine how ridiculous this looked. DH and I sat down the correct way, and once they saw that you were supposed to sit with the drawing board on your lap and face the CM, they all followed suit. It was so funny, it took every fiber in my body to not start laughing. I think they felt pretty silly too.
I was beyond excited to find out which character we would be drawing. The CM started the class by telling us that the class before ours drew Goofy, and he wanted to draw something different. He asked if we would like to draw Stitch, and nearly everyone booed and opposed his decision. I think everyone didnt like the Stitch wake up calls. The CM was taken aback by the response and asked if we would rather draw Pluto, everyone was happy with that decision. The CM then said something about feeling bad for poor Stitch since we was so unwanted.
So with the decision made, the CM started to show us step by step how to draw good ol Pluto. I really loved this and I couldnt believe I had never done it before. It was so much fun, especially for someone like me, who is NOT an artist whatsoever.
Here are our final products:
DHs
Mine.
On the way out, I asked the CM what he thought, and he said it was very good. I was very proud, I felt like I was back in elementary school and getting a positive comment from a teacher!
It was just about time for our 50s Primetime ADR, and we were beyond ready for dinner. We walked the short distance to the café and checked in with the CM. DH and I were instantly entertained by the décor of the restaurant and the way the CMs were dressed. We gave our name and were told to wait in the bar area for our table.
We really didnt wait very long to be called and were soon brought to our kitchen table where Mom was there to meet us. Our server played the part perfectly and was never out of character. She kept calling all the men in our section Skippy and the women Princess. She noticed our ears and announced our honeymoon to the other two tables in our kitchen. We didnt have a TV at our table, but we really didnt miss it since we could the one at the other table just fine.
She took our drink orders and then ordered us to set the table. We did as we were told because neither of us wanted to see what would happen if we didnt obey our mother. Plus we were warned that Dad was home and watching TV in back.
For dinner DH ordered the pot roast and I had the meatloafbased on recommendations from other Dissers. They both came with mashed potatoes and vegetables, I think mine came with green beans. And boy, were those some great recommendations. Both dishes were incredibly tasty! Mom told us that we better eat up or vegetables otherwise there would be no dessert for us.
Of course, DH, who inhales his food, was finished first, when mom came back with some refills of our drinks, she was so pleased that she made a huge deal that Justin had cleaned his entire plate. She picked up his plate and showed everyone in our section. Then she gave him a sticker that said Official Member of the Clean Plate Club.
Once I saw that sticker, I just knew I needed one too, so I started woofing down the rest of my food (I even cheated and gave some to DH while Mom wasnt looking, it was very sneaky). When Mom came back, she gave me a sticker too. I was thrilled! She even gave me an extra for my scrapbook.
Mom was nice enough to take our picture.
For dessert, DH got the brownie sundae and I had the Smores. DHs sundae came with some extra Mickey sprinkles since we were celebrating!
DH really liked his sundae!
We really had fun at this dinner and would definitely eat here again. I was so glad we had a CM that was so into her character because I had heard that sometimes you can get a real dud! We said our goodbyes to Mom who told us stop in and visit again soon.
I realized that we had not seen American Idol yet, and I really didnt want to miss it, unfortunately, we missed the 5:00 PM show since our ADR was at 4:05. We needed to decide what to do nextso we decided to take a leisurely stroll to the Muppet Vision 3-D show. Along the way we had some fun taking pictures.
I just love the Streets of America! I wish they would do more with this section of the park! It always looks so deserted!
I love seeing a snow street sign in the middle of Florida!
When we made it to Muppet Vision they were just about to open the doors, so we didnt wait very long at all, which is always nice! This show is cute and it always reminds me of my trip to WDW when I was 10 years old because I wanted to watch it over and over, and back then there was actually a line to see it! I always say they should do some updating to bring some of the hype back to it.
After our go round with Kermit and the gang we headed to the Star Tours area, I asked DH if he wanted to ride since there was like only a 10 minute waitand I would be in the store since it makes me queasy. DH said he didnt really care to ride it, so we just decided to go into the store and look around. We reminisced how in 2007 I bought him a Jedi Mickey and tried to keep it a secret, even though he knew I had bought something and stuffed it in my purse. The store was packed-- the ride, not so much. We are glad they are giving Star Tours a much needed update, I will have to ride it just to see the changes.
We still had some time before the 6:00 show of American Idol, so we decided to check if RnR had any FastPasses for later in the evening available. We knew it was a long walk, but we had time to kill.
As we were passing near the Indiana Jones entrance, we saw some people sitting down by the steps that will take you near the Echo Lake and pointing to this thing scurrying around on the ground. I looked at DH and was horrified because it was some sort of light brown rodent thing, but it was way too big to be a mouse---I screeched, IT LOOKS LIKE A RAT! DH promised it was not a rat.
You see, I absolutely hate mice and anything with mousy tales. It is a phobia I have, I dont know where it came from, but I just get so disgusted! The weird thing was that this thing wasnt scared of people because I think it was getting fed by some of the people sitting near the steps. DH was laughing at my near hysteria, trying to calm me down by saying it is just a mouse...I dont think it was a mouse, it was just too big. Besides, the only mouse I wanted to see at WDW is Mickeyand this sure wasnt Mickey! DH said something like, What do you expect? Disney World is full of miceever hear of Mickey? And that is when I screamed, BUT THAT ISNT MICKEY!!!!!! People sitting on the steps were cracking up, and the entire rest of the way to RnR, I was telling DH that I was ready to go to guest relations and tell them they have a mutant mouse on property.
Slowly, the hysteria disappeared and we made it RnR, only to find there were no more FPs available. Darn! All that for nothing!! We hightailed it back to American Idol to make sure we would get seats for Disneys newest show, but we made sure to avoid the area near Echo Lake since the mutant could have still been on the loose!
UP NEXT: American Idol & nighttime at DHS with our first EMH ever!
