The Mr & Mrs do disney Nov/Dec 09 - UPDATE : can the last one out turn the lights off

Hey Jojo!!! Pick a Pearl is so on my must do list too!!! I think I've read that thread you were talking about!! :lmao: Stalkers that we are!! I'm sorry to say that I don't have much advise for the DHS situation. I have heard though when dealing with very large holiday crowds if you get to the park at rope drop you should be okay. You'll be able to get everything in before it get super crazy. Also if you prepare yourself for crowds and expects them, then at least it won't ruin your day. I think Friday 11/27 will be worse than Saturday as far as parks go. I figure that a lot of people will leave on Saturday, that way they can fly home and have Sunday to recover before work. I know Greg and I are doing that same sort of schedule. I would say keep things the way they are and just be prepared.

We are doin g DHS on the 29th as well and have heard that it is a 4 on the capasity scale. Most of the Thanksgiving guest head out Saturday as start of semester is the Monday after for alot of kids. My sister has gone on this weekend as they are dvcers and she says Sunday has never been busy since she's been, so I'm gonna chance it. adr's at Mama Melrose at 3:10 that day.:woohoo:Got a 1month in the front of my ticker still haven't figured out how to make it show. I'm a complete computer illiterate. I guess alot.:confused3

I'm thinking no, actually. I'll be getting my birthday gift card, but I don't expect to be able to use it here, unfortunately. It's my understanding that most of the World Showcase shops don't accept it, because they're not actually owned by Disney. I'm 99.9% sure that Pick-a-Pearl is one of the ones that won't accept it, since there's Pick-a-Pearl locations in most major tourist areas. I saw a couple of them in passing just in August when I was in San Francisco. :sad1: But hopefully I'm wrong!
That's ok, I can just swircg my spending around. Use my card at Mousegears and my spending cash at pick a pearl. Mom will give me my birthday money that day too. No worries. Mom plans to do pick a pearl too, it'll be a fun mother daughter thing.

Did a bit of christmas shopping online this morning and bought some great stocking fillers for DH and a couple of dvd's for my mum. I want to try and have everything for christmas done before we go away so that i'm not stressing when I get back. I'll obviously be shopping in disney for some pressies for people, but am getting all the other stuff done before we go :thumbsup2

In terms of disney planning, i've started getting worried that we have totally picked the wrong day to go DHS - 29th Nov, I chose that day as it's emh in the evening which is great, but i've now figured out that that weekend after thanksgiving is apparently crazy in the parks?? What should I do?

We fly in on the 27th and probably wont get to WL until 6pm at the very earliest, so we were just gonna mooch around the lodge and grab a cs meal then go bed as it will have been a very long day.

The 28th i'm considering booking a TS breakfast at a resort somewhere so that we can order our cake, then we'll be heading to i-drive to hit the shops.

Then the 29th should be DHS but i'm worried its going to be packed out and that we'll hate it :scared1: should I swap this to a later date and just plan on doing resort hopping / activities or maybe i-drive again?? :confused3
Way to go getting that Christmas shopping out of the way. I still haven't started mine. I am stressing over it alot.

You should be ok for DHS. I have read on several sites and in books that MK is the park of choice for holiday weekends. And seriously if you can make rope drop then you should be able to get most things done pretty early. Work the FP system to your advantage too.

Brilliant! I think I may going this route as well, especially since it's sooooo easy for me to drop a ton of money in Mousegears. :goodvibes :thumbsup2

I *think* you can also do a Pick a Pearl at...Downtown Disney? *thinking*
I know you can do it at more than one palce on WDW property, I'm just blinking out on it right now! :rotfl:

I always look to do it, then see the price and then convince myself not to do it. :lmao:

Can't wait to see all our pearls when we do our trip reports! It's gonna be so cute :cutie:

Yeah, i'm just gonna have to be prepared for the worst and then it can only be better ;) We've decided to cancel our breakfast GF adr for that morning so that we can make rope drop instead - will be our first ever rope drop!!

Well say hello to me if you see me anywhere in the studios! We've got an adr for sci-fi, havent eaten there before and i'm really excited!!! We're just gonna have to be brave and face the crowds :hippie:

Thanks for the tips, keep your fingers crossed for me :wizard: I really really want to ride toy story as we've never been on it before. I'm wondering whether to finally pluck up the courage and try ToT - what do you think?

FIRST EVER!?!?!?! :scared1: I almost don't believe it!! Greg and I were at every single one on our last trip. We're early bird and like to get going in the morning as soon as we can. I must say though, in my mind I totally remember DHS being the worst. Not to scare you, but maybe it's the way the have everyone qued, but I just remember that one feeling more crowded than the rest. We were at all the rope drops, but I REFUSE TO RUN TO THE RIDES. We were there in October and there was no need. But there they were, these crazy people in full sprint to the most popular attraction! And not to knock our DIS friends that have kids and will have them in strollers, but some Mom's and Dad's are violent with those things! Greg and I called them baby bulldozers because they would go at you with those things (with their babies in them mind you) and bulldoze through a crowd. They thought nothing of shoving the stroller into your ankles to get you out of the way. Not all, but there are definitely some of those off the wall people around!! We were not in a peak season, there were not a lot of crowds, and we pretty much walked onto everything.

Oh, wow. Now I just HAVE to get one, or I'll feel left out! :lmao: By the way, I don't know if you noticed, but there's a new picture of pearls in the pick-a-pearl thread we've been stalking. A gentleman posted a shot of the three rings that his wife has had made from her Disney pearls, and they are GORGEOUS.

I'm going to do my best to shuttle DBF off to as many rope drops as I can, but he's really not a morning person. I'm not either typically, but all that changes when I'm at Disney World! :rotfl:

Thanks for the tips, keep your fingers crossed for me :wizard: I really really want to ride toy story as we've never been on it before. I'm wondering whether to finally pluck up the courage and try ToT - what do you think?
Dooooooo iiiiiittt! It's really REALLY not that bad. Just keep reminding yourself that you're not actually falling... You're on an incredibly safe ride built by Disney Imagineers, utilizing some of the most advanced, cutting edge technology available. And a secret about that ride? It's actually pulling you down way faster that you would be free falling, just for thrills and effect. You'll be fiiiiiiiiiiiiine. DBF very much dislikes Drop-type rides, where as I can't handle anything that spins :crazy2:. We've made a pact, though... he'll brave ToT once with me, if I suffer through Mission:Space once with him. :lmao: How's THAT for compromise?

My sister Bo and I live by the motto, "Feel the fear....And do it anyway." I say go for it, ToT really isn't that bad. Then once you have done it, buy yourself something nice to commemorate the occasion.;)

Oh I hear you on that! I know the mammas got to keep their babies safe in the stroller so they don't run off or worse yet get squished by rope drop stampeders, but seriously just because the stroller isn't motorized doesn't mean it doean't hurt when it nails you in the achilles tendon.

I hate to admit this, but I once thought about renting a stroller and bringing my fake baby just so I wouldn't have to carry stuff.

How real does this little guy look?

ok, I just reread what I posted, I'm not a nut job who pretends this baby is real. I don't carry him around and rock him and stuff.

Rope Drops -
RDs are AWESOME! Did you know they have opening ceremonies? I finally went to my first one on my May trip.

MK's rope drop/opening ceremony is wonderful! Really, an experience.

I'm going for AK's on this trip and hopefully, as many as I can. I'm not sure if Epcot or HS has rope drop/opening ceremonies.

Rides -
I'm a total baby on what I deem as "scary" rides. I've done ToT in the past and will not do it again. I just did RnRC on my last trip and I'm good with that too.
I've never done TSM, but I doesn't hold any appeal for me. :confused3

In any case, it is certainly going to help me with my touring plan. :thumbsup2:laughing:

Ok...been away from the Dis for a few days! All caught up!

I too am absolutely doing the pick a pearl! That is going to be a big seller this year, huh?! I was going to try to find a setting on ebay, but think I may just get one there if I can get a ring for around $50-$60. I think that is probably what I will get for my mom for Christmas also.

As for the DHS issue...I would not get overly worried about it. We were in Disney for Christmas 2006. Everyone says to stay away from parks on Christmas day...especially MK and Epcot. Well, we were in Epcot on Christmas day for the whole day. We never had an issue with crowds or waits. It was fine. I think you may just be fine.

FIRST EVER!?!?!?! :scared1: I almost don't believe it!! Greg and I were at every single one on our last trip.

Honestly!! We've never done one before!! We're considering DHS and Epcot - but i'll have to juggle our plans and ADR's

Oh, wow. Now I just HAVE to get one, or I'll feel left out! :lmao: By the way, I don't know if you noticed, but there's a new picture of pearls in the pick-a-pearl thread we've been stalking. We've all got to do it and post pics, will be great :goodvibes We should take bets on who we think will get the biggest one and there should be a little prize or something  Those rings that the guy posted were lovely

I'm not really a morning person either, but I guess i'm gonna have to be! I'll pretend i'm going to work because then i've got to be up at 6am anyway. Will seem like a looooong day though, 12 hours in a park!

I'm not a big ride person - I dont do heights, upside down, spinning, anything dodgy really  But am tempted to try it ToT once, been looking at videos on youtube and it doesnt seem too bad - but once i'm on it it will be another story :lmao:

YAY ~ For your first rope drop!! :cool1::woohoo:

:goodvibes

I'm liking the shopping at the end of it already, you just knew that would push my buttons didnt you!!

ok, I just reread what I posted, I'm not a nut job who pretends this baby is real. I don't carry him around and rock him and stuff.

That baby must be real!!?? Surely!! It looks 100% real!!!

wait, that baby isn't real!?!?

Exactly!! :3dglasses

I'm getting quite excited about rope drop now with everything everyone is saying about them :) Am wondering whether to add MK to the list aswell because we've got a breakfast ADR for 10am, so wouldnt hurt to get there an hour earlier. What time do people get there for a 9am rope drop?? Can we get there at 9?

Ok...been away from the Dis for a few days! All caught up!

Hey honey  We missed you!! Glad you are doing the pearl - they are gonna make a fortune out of us lot arent they! I've been looking at the cinderella cages on ebay, think i'll get one just incase - because they arent expensive but i'll have a look at what settings they've got in epcot and probably go with something of theirs & keep the cage for another trip - Will see how I feel.

Thanks for your advice about the parks being busy, i'm just gonna stick with and hope for the best. We're not one's for the big rides so hopefully we shouldnt be affected too much even if there are lots of people.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY

PARTY OVER HERE!!!

You wanna know why?!?!

I just got an ADR for Garden Grill at 6.15 on our first day!! I'm soooo excited!! It's the answer to my prayers!!
