The Mr & Mrs do disney Nov/Dec 09 - UPDATE : can the last one out turn the lights off

So, i've spent alot of today stalking the thread that is based on the 'Pick a pearl' at Japan in Epcot. I've never done this before, but after reading that thread I am now hooked & it's on my to do list for this trip :woohoo:

I've had a look on ebay and there are lots of lovely 'cages' that you can put the pearl in and then add it to a necklace. I think disney also offer different settings etc.. at the shop so I will see what they have too and the prices. I'm so excited about doing this

We had our wedding dessert party at Japan and pearls are also my birthstone, plus they remind me of my dear grandma who always used to love to wear pearls :lovestruc So whatever I have made will be something for me to treasure.

Whilst i've been typing this i'm wondering if they offer a brooch setting - as this would make a lovely xmas present for my mum aswell :wizard:

I've also been researching cakes and looking for photos but now i'm wondering whether to just give the disney baker a few verbal ideas and let them go wild with it  I'm currently thinking along the lines of a christmas theme with miss piggy and kermit sat on the top - that would be so cute  I hope the cake tastes as good as our wedding one * drools *
I'm still trying to decide where to have it delivered - to our room or one of our adr's? The only problem having it at an adr is that we will want to take it back to the room so we can save some for scoffing later!

They do! I wish I had photos, but I know for sure that DISers have shown them before, because every time I see one I think "That's so pretty, too bad I don't wear stuff like that! I'll get a ring or a necklace." I wish there was a way to go online and see what all different settings are available before you get there. :goodvibes

:wave2: Hi there! Followed you over from Elevationist and disneyaddicted PTR. So envious you are staying at WL. Love that resort :cloud9: Have lots to catch up here but I'm in it for the ride

YAY!! Thanks for letting me know  I wish they had an online shop too - that would be great!

Hi there! Thanks for popping over  I'll have to check out your plans too :) We love the lodge aswell, can't wait to see it dressed for christmas - everyone says its beautiful :cloud9:

I've done pick a pearl before but not at Japan, I did mine at TL with my college roomie. I picked my pearl which was the standard white pearl (I guess they have white, yellow, and blue you could possible pick?) and I got mine set on a serling silver ring. My pearl ended up being 9.5 in size and valued over 100 bucks!! My roomies was 6.0 way smaller than mine and the girl said hers was the average size you can get.
All in all it was 60 bucks I believe. I got a CM discount of 10% and of course I got the cheap silver so that is why it was cheaper as well.

I still have my ring although the silver is looking pretty dull but I figured I can always go and pick another one and maybe get a necklace next time!!

I too am thinking of the darn Christmas cake. I can't believe no one on the cake thread has gotten a Xmas cake before??!! Oh well, we'll see what happens! I think you'll have to pay 75 bucks to have a cake delivered to your room and WL only has the standard cakes so you might want to think of that too!

Pick-A-Pearl is on my Must-Do List too!!! I read that the uglier the shell, the prettier the pearl. I am sure you read that during stalking, but just in case :goodvibes

I've just been stalking a christmas bargain thread and someone mentioned some discount codes for something that I just couldnt resist!!

You'll never guess!

Something funny for DH gift bag

a pair of toy story green alien underpants :lmao: They are hilarious :lmao:

Can't wait to see his face :rotfl2:

Wowsers, that is a big pearl - you were lucky!! :wizard: I've seen some really nice pearl cages on ebay that are shaped like cinderellas carriage

I know, im shocked no-one has had a christmas cake either :confused3 We'll start a new trend ;) Well, i've been doing my usual second guessing again today and am wondering whether to move a breakfast ADR to our first morning so that we can have the cake at one of the resorts - which do you think is best to get one at? GF, Poly or CR ??

Pick-A-Pearl is on my Must-Do List too!!! I read that the uglier the shell, the prettier the pearl. I am sure you read that during stalking, but just in case :goodvibes

That's a great tip, thankyou  I'm so excited about doing this

We've done the pick a pearl in both Japan and Seaworld and I found some really wonderful setting there, you can also take it to a local jeweler and they should have some nice settings as well. Pearls are fairly easy to set as apposed to other gemstone.I still have several pearls unset from previous trips and I'm debating on how I want them set. I plan on trying for a few more while we are there, we have ressies at Teppan Edos on the last night we are there so we are gonna do some diving after dinner.:goodvibes I love jewelry sparklies make me happy. So does cake and your cake idea sound like fun and yummie:thumbsup2

Pick a pearl is on my list too. I hope I can use my birthday card to purchase it. I think the pick a pearl cost is 14.99 and setting start around 30.00 I also heard that the uglier the oyster the prettier the pearl.

I love the idea of the Christmas Kermit and Mrs Piggy cake. That sounds pretty and fun at the same time.

Green alien under wear, DO THEY GLOW IN THE DARK? LMAO

Yep, I've read the same! That you should pick the ugliest, most harry shell in the tank. :goodvibes It's on my "must-do" list too, but I'm gonna be sneaky about it. Once we get to the store in Japan and see them doing it, I'm going to gently steer DBF into thinking it's his idea for me to get something. Muahaha. :lmao::woohoo:

Oh my gosh, that's fantastic! I did a bit of browsing at the store this morning on my way home from work, trying to get ides for DBF's surprise gift bag, but couldn't find a thing that interested me! :confused3

I could be wrong, but the last I heard, the picking cost is up to around $18 or $19 now. :scared1: Not that a few bucks will deter me from doing it anyhow, of course! :rotfl:

I'd say GF IMO...it seems on the cake thread the majority of the cakes come from GF restaurants and CR but mostly GF so I would go with them. If I can get CM's I'm going to get a cake from them just because we are not eating at GF. I don't think Dbro would appreciate Mary Poppins and Alice when he could have Mickey n' friends!!

OOOHHH, you're sneaky....atta girl!.

You are probably right about the cost increase. I still think it would be worth it. The perfect b-day present for myself.

Still wish that I knew how large their ring sizes run! I know it's a long shot, but I really really want a ring. :guilty:

I can't wait to do the pick a pearl, i'll probably end up as addicted as you :thumbsup2

Oh yeah I forgot about birthday people getting a gift card - you're so lucky  I'm sure you'll be able to use it there, maybe ask on the boards and find out for sure :surfweb:

Hope they are able to do the muppets but im wondering if there might be a licensing problem or anything - guess there is no harm in asking though :thumbsup2

:lmao: I'll let you if they glow :rotfl2:

I love your sneaky idea, maybe I should try the same thing

Just keep looking on the net too, you can find lots of funky things on ebay :surfweb:

We are on a pearl mission and no-one can stop us now!!

Yeah, there do seem to be more people getting them from GF. We're doing both 1900 park fare and Chef Mickeys for breakfast - do you think we should do it at GF then?

Did a bit of christmas shopping online this morning and bought some great stocking fillers for DH and a couple of dvd's for my mum. I want to try and have everything for christmas done before we go away so that i'm not stressing when I get back. I'll obviously be shopping in disney for some pressies for people, but am getting all the other stuff done before we go :thumbsup2

In terms of disney planning, i've started getting worried that we have totally picked the wrong day to go DHS - 29th Nov, I chose that day as it's emh in the evening which is great, but i've now figured out that that weekend after thanksgiving is apparently crazy in the parks?? What should I do?

We fly in on the 27th and probably wont get to WL until 6pm at the very earliest, so we were just gonna mooch around the lodge and grab a cs meal then go bed as it will have been a very long day.

The 28th i'm considering booking a TS breakfast at a resort somewhere so that we can order our cake, then we'll be heading to i-drive to hit the shops.

Then the 29th should be DHS but i'm worried its going to be packed out and that we'll hate it :scared1: should I swap this to a later date and just plan on doing resort hopping / activities or maybe i-drive again?? :confused3

I'm thinking no, actually. I'll be getting my birthday gift card, but I don't expect to be able to use it here, unfortunately. It's my understanding that most of the World Showcase shops don't accept it, because they're not actually owned by Disney. I'm 99.9% sure that Pick-a-Pearl is one of the ones that won't accept it, since there's Pick-a-Pearl locations in most major tourist areas. I saw a couple of them in passing just in August when I was in San Francisco. :sad1: But hopefully I'm wrong!

I'm sure whatever you decide to use the card for will be great, you'll have to take some photos and let us know what you bought :wizard:

The pick a pearl does seem to be getting more and more popular in different locations. I've never done it before though, anywhere - but i'd rather stick to doing them just in disney so it feels that bit more special & could turn into a trip tradition :cloud9:

We think so much alike, you know that? :lmao: That is EXACTLY why I didn't even mention to DBF the Pick-a-Pearl places that I saw in San Francisco while we were there... I'm saving the experience for Disney World. :goodvibes
