The most precious Disney memories

Over this year of missing DLR, I have often thought of so many wonderful memories of trips we've taken. I've tried to take my granddaughter at least once a year since she was 2 1/2 and sometimes we have been fortunate enough to have annual passes and go several times a year. My granddaughter will be turning 13 in a few months and we are eagerly awaiting our next trip, hopefully for Thanksgiving this year.

Today while working I was listening to a playlist from DLR Sounds and the music from Splash Mountain came on. I was instantly transported to a sunny day when we had just come off of the Splash Mountain attraction, just the perfect amount of 'splashed.' My DGD must have been about 6 at the time, and as we walked along, her little hand in mine, she was quietly singing in her sweet little voice 'my oh my, what a wonderful day.' Even typing it now brings a lump to my throat - such a priceless moment. I will never forget the warmth of the sun on our damp clothes, the feeling of her little hand in mine, and the sound of her voice, both of us without a care in the world.

What a beautiful memory!

I have a lot of special moments that come to mind as well. - It's hard to choose one!

I guess I'll go with the most recent - Christmas 2018. Going when the decorations were up had been on our "someday list" for a while, and now I'm so glad we did it when we did! That first view of the castle dripping with lights, the Christmas music, the "snow" on Main St. It was just magical!

When DS2 was little he was very shy and easily scared of 'strangers'. I was concerned about his reaction to the characters (these were the days of 'free roaming' characters).

We were on Main St and there was Mickey and Goofy!! He ran right up to them saying "Hi hi hi hi!!!!", gave them big hugs and danced around them. When the interaction was over I told him I was very proud of him for being so friendly to them and not being 'scared'. He said "Mommy I wasn't scared cuz they aren't stranger, they're my DISNEY FRIENDS!!!".

DS1 at about 6 said "Mommy, that's YOU!!!" when he heard Snow White's voice coming from the well. I sing soprano and used to sing lots of Disney songs to them, including "I'm Wishing". I only wish I sounded like Adriana Caselotti!

I have many too! One that stands out is when my boys and I arrived in Toontown shortly after it opened for the day. When my boys knocked on the front door of Mickey’s house, he answered the door! That was pretty cool.

I’ve told this story before and it’s the picture in my Avatar from 6 years ago. My daughter was a week shy of 3 and my son was 4. He dressed up as Peter Pan and we were looking for him, but he’s hard to find! We got on Storybook Canal boats and as the boat floated away from the dock we saw Peter! Noooooo!

well, we get off and he’s still hanging around. Phew. A small line has formed and we join it. Peter sees my son and gives us a look. No one happened to line up behind us and he asked me if it was okay to go on an adventure. Uh yeah, Sure!

He tells my kids they are going to go on a treasure hunt and takes them by hand (my avatar). They go skipping through Fantasyland from across from the teacups by the Storybookland fence all the way to the bushes by the castle, past the Alice bathrooms. They start digging through the bush for the treasure.

Finally Peter finds two pinecones and gives them each one. He says we found the treasure! My son says, the treasure is pinecones? Peter says, “yes. It’s a treasure because we found it together.” Pure magic.

2000,,,,guide book said there may be conventions that reserved Disneyland and that cause early closures at Disneyland....take advantage and stay in a far corner...we did....5 year old having Goofy bounce house all to himself for a good 35 mins......5 year old now 25 , Goofy bounce house got lawyered out ....so pretty much a memory that he can have to himself.

We were there in June 2017. Daughter was just turned 9, and it was right after Tom Sawyer Island had been closed for a year and a half. We were there the day it reopened and we went over. Jack Sparrow was over there, and he spent a solid ten minutes or more with our daughter, showing her around the island, taking her to his "treasure" area, and...everything. It was awesome. Then, a year later, we were at DCA and she saw Oswald (her favorite), who was just hanging around over by his shop. He took a shine to her and, again, spent a good ten minutes with her. He was great!

Thanksgiving 2018. So many wonderful memories, but my two favorites are walking down main street with our multigenerational family (parents, kids, grandkids) and watching the youngest ones (our nephews) in awe as they took it all in...and then seeing Pluto outside the firehouse and their eyes were sparkling with that Disney magic. There was a photopass photographer there, and those are my absolute favorite photos from that trip.

Another was making hand turkey drawings with Peter Pan and Captain Hook! There was a whole group of kids there and Peter and Hook were so great with them all. Another magical moment, and one we just stumbled upon.

I've had several princess encounters with both my girls. Those are the best. Here's one where Snow White came up and grabbed my youngest's hand...and she was SOOOO proud.


Another was when we all spent a whole morning for the Christmas Parade filming. And it was worth it on Christmas morning when the kids saw themselves multiple times.

Oh, and I almost forgot. I've got this thing for photobombing peoples pics at DL. If there's a bunch of people, I'm poking my head in it. My goal is to be in as many Disney pictures as I can! My kids know this and always laugh. So imagine my great joy a few years back when I find that my son decided to do his very first photo-bomb...while I was doing a castle selfie. That's my boy!!!!
