if you know that you're supposed to "unwrap each day like aprecious gift", that Bruce Morrow is your cousin and Dan Ingram will tell you to "roll your bod" every fifteen minutes to keep you from getting a sunburn...

then you'll appreciate my sadness as Harry Harrison retires after 44 years on NYC radio.

you're a real "good guy" Harry, we'll miss you.

I remember listening to Harry when he was on 770 WABC back in the 60's (I wasn't a 'good guy' listener!)

He'll be missed as a fixture on the NY radio scene.

He claims he isn't actually retiring, but he did his last show on WCBS Wednesday. I haven't quite figured out what that means, but I will certainly miss him. After all, nobody picks on Mr. G like Harry.

Seriously, though, I've beem listening to Harry Harrison for many years and missed him even when he was on vacation. Harry, Brucie, and all the others are local fixtures you expect will never go away. Dan Daniel retired several month ago, too.

Is this a sign we're all getting old? :(

Him on WABC as well. Mom used to listen to him all the time.

He will be missed. Now where is that 9 volt transistor radio with the ear clip.

He is definitely NOT retired.

The rumor in the radio world is that Harry was not happy with the direction that CBS had taken (real oldies from the 50s have been pretty much eliminated and the same songs are played over and over again). I wouldn't be surprised if he showed up on an independent radio station like so many of the other NYC radio greats have.

There is also a rumor (and I highly doubt this one, but I thought I'd put it out there) that 102.7 will go back to music and be a true Oldies station.

I love to see a station out there that plays an ecclectic mix of oldies and new music. And not just the same stuff over and over again.

Where ever Harry ends up and whatever he does, I wish him the best. The holidays won't be the same without his "May You Always."

If that's Harry's reason for leaving, I can't say I blame him. I will be a faithful listener wherever he goes.

Of course, what most of us older folks consider oldies, true oldies, if you will, are the 50's and 60's. It's a bit of a reality check when we hear the tunes that our kids used to drive us nuts with not being played as oldies. Well, they're 20 - 30 + years old, so they are, to that generation, "oldies."

Just imagine, it won't be long and rap will be considered oldies!

I'm feeling really old right now...
