One of the craziest things that caught me by surprise after my first full was the effect of DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). This video is a great play on how it feels.

Coach lesson.

After the race you will want to find a bed and crash for a long nap. That is not the ideal thing to do. You want to walk for a good 30 minutes immediately after the race. And stretch out your legs during this period. Taking in a couple meals early post race is a great way to feed the muscles. You will want to keep moving for the afternoon. A short nap in OK but understand the less you move the harder it will be to start moving again. One of the better things about Disney is that you have 4 parks where you can put that shiny medal on and shuffle along with a few thousand of your closest friends.

If you play your afternoon right, Monday you will be a little sore but able to move with very little grimace.

Good post Charles. The only time I've ever had any real post race pain (more than normal soreness at least) was the one time I went back to the hotel and crashed. Even after my first full I felt better than that particular time.

I'm a big proponent of the ice bath too and after any training run over 10 I like to get them in the ice. I am about to go soak my legs from the knee down. It makes a huge difference the next day in my experience.

I've done an ice bath a couple of times after 2 hour plus runs and it seemed to help vs ones where I didn't.

Here is my question. Living in Central new york we have about 2 feet of snowpack. Couldn't I just go lay in that and cover my legs with snow for a good 20 or 30 minutes?

I better warn my wife so she doesn't find me frozen sitting on the front lawn the next day :)
Hope my neighbors don't see me and think I am more crazy than the guy running 22 miles in 22 degree weather.

I would strip down to a nice old pair of running shorts and go for it - thought would limit it to 7-10 minutes. Following icing rules

After my first full in '07 I spent the day at Epcot. That was a rough day but when I woke up Monday I felt great except for some mild soreness. Ice baths were also good but not as good as an 8 hour 6 or 7 mile cool down.

Ice bath and then going for a walk later that day has seemed to work for me.
