I had left off with Reese bringing home what she thought was a broken child care baby.
The baby was programmed to wreak havoc starting at 6:00pm on Friday and continuing to haunt us until 6:00am Monday morning.
Reese studied the baby she practiced putting on and taking off the diaper and clothes, she decided it would be easier to take care of him if he were naked, I argued this, it's supposed to be like a real life experience, part of real life is wearing clothes, she met me half way on this and kept his sleeper on half way allowing his little diaper bottom to be exposed at all times.
Reese also studied the care packet that came with it, it was a good thing Kent took her back to the school to get it, apparently you can't wing it like she had intended to do, everything had to be journaled, Reese wondered out loud why the teacher gave her 4 pages of journal, she thought she wouldn't need it.
She started out the evening by filling out the baby's birth certificate. She named the poor baby PACO DEL TACO, I told her that was a horrible name, she said it could have been worse as she was thinking about PABLO DIABLO as another choice, so I let it go.
6pm rolls around and we are all starring at the baby waiting for his electronic life to begin, then he cooed, Reese and I together cooed back, "Aaaawwwww" Then the Paco starts to wimper and within seconds he is in full on crying mode, Reese panics "He's not accepting my scan, my bracelet is on backwards cut it off." I ran and got the scissors from the kitchen, she scans him, he makes a wierd beeping noise, pauses for a monent then continues to scream, so she scans the diaper and changes him, he keeps screaming, so she scans the bottle and starts feeding him, he made loud gulping breathing swallowing noises for about 20 minutes before he started to cry again, she figured out how to burp him, once he belched out a loud one that any mother would be proud of he went to sleep. Reese said "this mothering thing is easy." I pointed out to her that with a real baby you actually have to wipe and clean dirty bum when chaning a diaper and bottles need to be measured and heated. Paco had all the makings of a real baby, he had the cry down perfect and he always seemed to cry at the worst times, just like a real baby, but too many steps are left out in order for you to get the full effect.
Some of the things she had to do while caring for the baby was run an errand, so Reese packed Paco into the car seat and we were off to Rutters for an energy drink, Reese thought it might help keep her awake during the midnight feedings. While on this little road trip Reese got to experience what it was like to change a baby's diaper in the back seat of a car, I had to pull off the side of the road so she could do this.
Back home again Paco was feeding every couple hours and Reese was getting mad, she didn't want Paco to get fat. She seemed to be doing great, she didn't want any help from anybody
See how well she was doing? Well if photobucket would have allowed me to load the picture I wanted it shows a whole new story. by 3:00am Reese was draped over the side of the crib, no longer picking Paco up for his feedings but trying to sleep while holding the bottle to his mouth. I ended up taking the 5am and 7am feedings, I gave Paco back to Marrisa at 9am so I could get ready for work. Reese took Paco shopping with her that day and to the neighborhood bar-b-que. That night was the same as before, Paco waking up about every 2 hours, only Reese refused any help, she did it all on her own.
Sunday morning she enlisted the help of her brother, Jim baby sat while Reese got a shower, that was a sight to see, he did everything except change the diaper, I had to do that.
By dinner time Sunday night Paco was a crying mess, this teacher programmed him to really sock it to Reese. For almost 4 hours he just fussed, we sat down to dinner thinking he was finally going to cool his jets but the second Reese picked up her fork, Paco would wimper, he was doing the "I just need attention" thing that most babies do so well, Reese who was tired of having to constantly get up threw the scanner at him hoping it would land in just the right spot, but it didn't, I ended up holding Paco through dinner, he has a sensor that picks up when he is being rocked, you could hear it clicking. Finally he fell asleep.
In the middle of the night I woke up to hear Reese crying, "What do you want? just tell me, I have changed you, fed you, burped you, what do you want? Please go to sleep, I have school in 3 hours. God please if you just make him sleep I promise I'll be good, I'll become a nun."
That's when I knew this experiment was a success, Reese had discovered what's it like to be a new mom, she was trying to reason with a newborn while making deals with God. What new mother hasn't done that? I was just grateful that this was only an experiment, Reese was able to give the baby back to the teacher on Monday. However she has told me now that I am going to have to settle for a grand puppy as she is never having kids. I wouldn't mind that so much except you can't take a puppy to Disney.
