Seriously. He is home sick today. Over a cough.

And LOL thank you! <3 I think I might buy some silly magazines at the airport, plus I Have an audible book and a kindle book to listen to/ read. I can't believe I'm going to be on a flight for 6 hours and not have to worry about keeping Maya quiet and occupied and happy! eep!

So first of all - I'm sure you all heard the exciting news that NOT ONLY will Rivers of Light be debuting in a week, but the new Avatar themed land will open 5/27 - both in time for our next trip in June! I was able to book our ROL Package at Tiffins (which is where we were going to eat anyway!) and I'm hoping to read good reports of the dining package views since I'd rather not use up a FP on the show. Our first day at Disney was up in the air (we fly in at 9AM, but Andrew only has a 6 day park hopper, so I intended to go to Disney Springs this day), but Andrew will be upgrading his ticket to an AP, so I plan to book a few FP's at AK our first day to check out the Avatar stuff, then head to Disney Springs, vs. just spending 1 day at AK.

Second, I found all my May photos and will start on this TR NOW!! (Thanks to a productive Snow-Day yesterday!)

***************

At 3AM on a Thursday, I went into Aria's room with the brand-new purple Magic Bands in hand to wake her up! We were doing something totally different today - SURPRISING ARIA WITH A TRIP TO DISNEY WORLD!! Due to some crazy cheap flights, we were actually heading to Texas the following weekend (non stop for $72!) SO the suitcase being out and packed luckily didn't tip her off to anything weird going on!

Andrew came in to video her reaction, but his finger was covering the sound, so you can't hear anything. But it went like you might imagine with a 3AM wake up - she first thought we were going to a park, then a park with rides, then realized we were really going to Disney World. It was pretty cute and she was wide awake after that! She was also excited it was just the two of us.

I drove to the airport, did a quick curb side check in with the suitcase & car seat bag, parked the car and we made the quick walk to the pre-check line. Soon we were through and stopped at Dunkin Donuts for some donuts and coffee. I had my pump with me and had pumped before leaving, and now I was fully, 100% off of my dairy & soy free diet. After Maya was improving so much on the Neocate, we made the decision to switch over, so I would only be pumping to as necessary, not to bring it home. So I really enjoyed that donut!

Aria did too-

Our flight left Providence at 5:45AM and arrived at 8:30! It was a super easy flight and between a few toys and the ipad, Aria was happy.

16508453_10100635576212321_2450486632817830980_n.jpg

Soon we were on the monorail. I refuse to call it the fake o rail, because we genuinely love this start of vacation!

16602795_10100635576292161_4892550019696238464_n.jpg

Aria was either over tired or super excited but she was running around me in circles while we waited for the bag and car seat!

Meanwhile, Andrew had decided to spend a long weekend at the Cape visiting his parents (surprised?! I don't think so).

On the drive to Disney, Aria passed out, making up for some of that lost sleep.

16508799_10100635576771201_2652813743097472321_n.jpg

We headed straight to Shades, just to check in, and I loved the hot air balloon basket in the car in front of me!

Riding in one is on my bucket list! :)

Soon we were entering Shades of Green property!! It's an old golf resort, now turned military. I had been once or twice before to purchase tickets, but had never stayed there before.

16603131_10100635580234261_742378145396232941_n.jpg

It is a beautiful resort, but lacks the Disney feel? Certainly better than staying offsite, however! The room wasn't ready, so I decided to park and do the walk to the TTC via the Poly to see how that walk is, so we could go to EPCOT! In my carry on backpack I had packed a change of clothes - shorts for me and a new outfit for Aria, so we also changed into those (in the car in the parking garage bc I forgot to bring it in when I tried to check in! lol). Something annoying about Shades - when you check in early, they don't give you keys or anything, so even if your room becomes available you still have to go back to the front desk to get the key cards.

We did the walk and it took about 15 minutes. I'm a pretty quick walker, and it was HOT, so I was already sweaty by the time we made it to the monorail!

16507998_10100635580433861_875201790044696383_n.jpg

We had a beautiful sneak peek of the Flower & Garden festival as we entered EPCOT via the monorail.

You can see I brought the City Mini with me on this trip. While I LOVE LOVE the City Select, once Aria was past the diaper stage and I didn't relaly have as much to bring into the parks (park bag still had change of clothes, snacks, mobile charger for phone) it wasn't as bad to have the City Mini. Plus Andrew wanted to City Select w/ the car seat attachment since he had Maya.

16602717_10100635579435861_2060406586525753966_n.jpg

After a quick security line and tap stiles, we stopped for a photopass!

16681905_10100635643342791_7356836767921645508_n.jpg

Where were we headed first? I had it in my plans to check out F&G booths for lunch, then grab a much-needed margarita at La Cava, before putting Aria down for a nap in the stroller (Margarita first, of course!). We also didn't have FP's scheduled until later as I didn't want to make them too early and then miss them!

Please tell me how you look so fresh at 5 am? I look like the crypt keeper! You probably know by now I LOVE a surprise trip! And yours is making me want to plan one SO badly! Your travel looks so smooth and how cool is it to wake up at home and be in Epcot before lunch! F&G looks gorgeous-- that's the one thing we have never seen at Disney!

WOOHOOO!!! on the ROL dates and Pandora! When this was announced, I decided that I HAVE to go back this year. They just released the new school calendar, and I think I can make a trip work in late Oct/early November-- will need to figure out if I just take G or if we can all go. Cost will be a big factor this year, with so many house/moving expenses coming up. I'm sure your June TR will be a good motivator for me to get it planned:cool1:

I hope Andrew survives his devastating illness:rotfl2: Have a great time on your trip!

I made a Tiffins/ROL reservation, too! So excited, but I didn't realize until after I made it that ROL will be at 9:15 that night. I'm not sure how my kids will do with that.

I love that you surprised Aria with the trip. I can't keep a secret with travel plans so I don't know if I'll ever be able to do that to Rory and Lola. Maybe if we book a very last minute trip! You two look great at that early hour!

We stayed at SOG when it was known as the Disney Inn. We liked it, but complained that it wasn't Disney enough. It is pretty convenient to the TTC, though!

That's fun that you got to surprise Aria - though Andrew needs to step up his trip-report-contribution game ;)

seems like a pretty smooth trip and I didn't realize how close of a walk Shades of Green is to the monorail

I always love the pre-view monorail loop for getting to EPCOT but it looks really pretty during Flower and Garden

Oh goodness thank you, I didn't feel very fresh. In order to be out the door within 10 minutes of waking I shower the night before on these early morning flights. Couple that with the Orlando May heat, and by lunchtime I was really feeling GROSS lol.

So before Aria's next AP expires, I am thinking of booking a 6th birthday trip and keeping it a surprise (for the end of Jan 2018). The surprise aspect was REALLY fun! Although, she really enjoys countdowns and talking about the trip and inputting rides and restaurants now that I am enjoying that aspect too.

I hope you can make that trip happen, although I have a feeling you'll have it planned before my June trip ;)

Looking forward to reading about this trip... looks like a great start!

Thank you!! It was a whirlwind morning but fun!

I made a Tiffins/ROL reservation, too! So excited, but I didn't realize until after I made it that ROL will be at 9:15 that night. I'm not sure how my kids will do with that.

I know, I was a little disappointed to see how late ROL will be during our June trip, but it's on par with Illuminations and MK fireworks I guess. I can wear the newborn so that'll be fine, but not sure how Maya will be. Maybe Andrew can carry her in after I'm sure she will have fallen asleep in the stroller.

The secret was HARD to keep, but luckily Aria was only 4 and really didn't pick up on any slips. Andrew was the worst, it was like he wanted to surprise to fail. Seriously he'd be like "when you go to Disney etc etc". And I would always reply with yeah, I wish we were going soon! And give him evil looks. I'm sure he was just jealous. And considering I was leaving him with a pretty unhappy (at the time) 5 month old I can understand lol.

They have since added on, and the pools are nice (we'll see those coming up!) and the walk to the Poly isn't too bad or the walk to the TTC. For the May trip I got some crazy $89 deal and for the size of the room, that really won me over ;)

That's fun that you got to surprise Aria - though Andrew needs to step up his trip-report-contribution game ;)

Yes, he really does, although I was surprised he even wanted to get up at 3AM for the surprise lol!

The walk from Shades to the Poly monorail platform takes about 10 minutes flat, although I am a fast walker. They do have a little shuttle golf cart thing (named the Shady Shuttle LOL) but with stroller folding we only used it once.

I love the monorail loop too, although I wish they dropped you off in the middle of EPCOT or something!

I am biding my time until the end of the day! Andrew's parents and his sister and her twin babies (9 months old now!) are all coming over this evening. Andrew is home "sick" and I have a taxi coming at 4AM to bring me to the airport, so I guess you could call this the calm before the storm. I'm looking forward to being away from the office Mon-Thurs of next week though!! :-D

So moving on in the TR ...

I had originally hoped to be at EPCOT by 11:30, and we took that photopass pic at 11AM so doing pretty great!

We were HANGRY (well I was, I always have a stockpile of snacks for Aria) so I decided to head straight back for F&G booths. But got waylayed by the Butterfly house and the temptation of the free Annual Passholder picture.

16507970_10100635579226281_5703334658775665648_n.jpg

I saw after the fact that I should have asked for all 4 variations, but I didn't know to at the time. Oh well!

We walked through the beautiful butterfly house

16508731_10100635581401921_2161274918757893975_n.jpg

And then we hightailed it to grab some food. First up I stopped for a violet lemonade after it got rave reviews from a few DIS'ers.

16508679_10100635578941851_382213751508661791_n.jpg

It was...okay? I thought it was just a little too floral to be food. Aria enjoyed the cool-ness of it but that's about it.

Nearby at La Isla Fresca they had a jerk chicken dish and a tres leches cake, both sounded amazing, so we got those.

You can see the lack of crowds, here:

They were wonderful! Aria ate some of the chicken and half of the cake after I ate my portions, and then I went in search of something else to eat. But then we noticed hardly anyone waiting for Daisy so popped over there. I'm still disgruntled that Duffy is no longer meeting. Daisy is totally unnecessary to be there IMO. And Aria randomly brings up how she wishes Duffy was still at Disney :( :( BUT she loves Daisy so wasn't unhappy to say hi, either.

Back to lunch, since I was still quite hungry, I stopped at the next one which was Jardin de Fiestas. They had a mushroom and queso quesadilla and flan, but Aria vetoed the flan so I just got the quesadilla.

Corn Tortilla Quesadilla served with Roasted Mushrooms and Zucchini Blossom topped with Green Tomatillo Sauce (V)

16473944_10100635577025691_3983638611510138242_n.jpg

Aria only had the littlest bite of this, as she does not like mushrooms. I thought it was good but wished the sauce was smothered on top!

The only reason I had resisted a fun drink up to this point (besides the fact that it was 11:30AM - that doesn't stop me!) is that I really wanted to enjoy my margarita from La Cava. Of course, it doesn't open until Noon, so we headed inside Mexico to kill some time.

16602668_10100635580209311_8955220206962066317_n.jpg

Aria really enjoyed spending time coloring Duffy

16640881_10100635577439861_2232348881899709129_n.jpg

And I was texting with Andrew, who sent me this picture of Maya doing some tummy time.

16508718_10100635576506731_5312830020607102957_n.jpg

Maya had been a little bit behind on meeting some milestones - she finally rolled over at 4.5 months old (shortly before this trip) - but I think the Neocate REALLY helped her just feel better because at 6 months she was crawling and she walked just after 10 months (and started standing up at like 7 months).

Anyway back to my afternoon excitement - after a little coloring, we hopped on the Gran Fiesta Tour where I took zero photos, but we enjoyed it, and then hopped in the growing line for La Cava. Shortly before Noon they actually opened, and I had my drink at 11:57 :-D

16473453_10100635577305131_3655826950207567118_n.jpg

A passionfruit margarita with a slightly spicy tajin salted rim, and a mango foam up top. Yes, still my favorite margarita anywhere. I don't typically like salted margarita rims, but I definitely make it a point to sip all the way around this glass!

It's not the easiest to push a stroller with a full drink, so we made another pit stop to color. I was that parent drinking off to the side ;)

16602584_10100635576895951_5166411893450274881_n.jpg

We meandered our way out of there, admired the F&G topiaries, on our way to the next stop.

16602616_10100635581102521_669261957274867887_n.jpg

I had read a lot about China's Lotus House pavilion candied strawberries. They also had bubble tea which I thought Aria would enjoy, and since I was still hungry, I got their Vegetable Spring Roll with Orange Sauce.

16602888_10100635577594551_5683811678027676453_n.jpg

I was excited to use some sriracha sauce on it!

16603156_10100635579989751_5434260164779012300_n.jpg

Aria really loved the bubble tea, refused more than a bite of the spring roll, and was surprisingly uninterested in the strawberries! I was about to grab a seat on a bench when we noticed Mulan was out without too much of a wait, so I decided to eat while in line. I precariously placed the strawberries under the stroller, Aria had the bubble tea in her milk cup spot, and I ate the spring rolls. They were really good (esp with the sriracha).

We were both kind of fading at this point between the heat and standing out in the sun. Soon it was our turn though and Mulan was fantastic. Aria really loves her movie, and they chatted quite a while.

16508655_10100635643707061_4942441346366139906_n.jpg

I say she was fading, but she also was refusing a nap afterwards. This was around the time when she dropped her afternoon nap altogether (up until 4, she religiously took a 1-4PM nap every.single.day like did NOT miss it for the world lol!). Unfortunately her morning snooze on the drive to Shades messed up my napping plans, so no nap for this little munchkin today.

Overall our lunching around the F&G carts was fun, although I cannot imagine waiting in long lines for the tiny nibblets. Between all the snacks/drinks we spent about $38 so pretty on par with an easy lunch, although I wasn't full (though I think the sun was helping with the fullness).

So with a very much awake 4 year old an an hour until our first FP, where did we head? Shopping!

We stopped in Mouse Gear and I wanted to pick out something for Maya and something for Aria (she had a gift card from some holiday burning a hole in her pocket).

16681706_10100635579675381_2406490237522790337_n.jpg

She picked out a playset of Inside out characters and a stacking ring toy for Maya. This poor CM then spent a ridiculous amount of time opening the Inside Out package for us. I tried to help but she wasn't allowed to give us scissors?!

On our to do list was to check out the playgrounds they bring out for F&G so that is where we headed after getting a little baggy for all the Inside Out characters.

I wished they had some big fans or cooling devices or something set up, because I was just plain old HOT.

16602717_10100635581466791_4842366880891907681_n.jpg

So we ran over here afterwards so I could get sprayed with some water.

I will leave this here, ready to head into our first fastpass!! Not much of a cliffhanger considering our location ;)

Food looks pretty good at the booths - and different than what they have for F&WF which is nice. How were the strawberries? They look good and big! (though it might have just been that the spring rolls were really small)

La Cava has the best margaritas (though we usually get some combination of the jalapeno, cucumber, and horchata ones - though last time we really enjoyed the dragones top shelf one)

At least they had that one sail-cover thing for the playground, but yeah, some fans would be great!

Yea a new trip report! I absolutely love the Flower and Garden Festival. It's just beautiful. All the colors are so vibrant and the topiaries are so cool.

I stayed at Shades of Green years ago when it was called The Disney Inn. I remember the rooms being very big. Back then it was just my husband and I and I really didn't appreciate all the extra space.

I didn't know that China had bubble tea. My daughter went to London last year and raved about the stuff. I had never even heard of it. I'll be there in two weeks so it's a must try for me.

I just have to chime in to say that Belle gown was unbelievably gorgeous! I don't know how you find things like that for your girls, I wish I had "known" you when mine were little!

Following along - thanks for the great reports! my two year old is severely allergic to dairy, egg, and wheat - so always interesting to read reports with the allergy element :)

So first of all - I'm sure you all heard the exciting news that NOT ONLY will Rivers of Light be debuting in a week, but the new Avatar themed land will open 5/27 - both in time for our next trip in June
Yes :cheer2: I booked the Tiffins dinner package for our adults only trip next month, looking forward to both ROL and eating there for the first time!

Meanwhile, Andrew had decided to spend a long weekend at the Cape visiting his parents (surprised?! I don't think so).
:rotfl2:Oh, that brings back memories........

Love that you and Aria did a mommy/daughter trip. Also your eating at the F&G booths is getting me excited for going this year! DH and I ate at a few of the booths when we did F&G in 2015 but I didn't plan to spend enough time there, so I'm planning better this time!

Shades is our go-to resort when we are looking for spur of the moment trips. I do wish it felt more "Disney" but it's not enough to keep me away. The room size and proximity to the MK are well worth it. Plus, Landon LOVES their new kiddie pool area. He spent most of our July trip there. (And that Shady Shuttle was a life saver for my 6 month pregnant self when I was trekking back and forth in the dead of summer. The guys working there actually came to recognize me.)

Just looking at your pictures, you can tell how hot it was at Epcot that day. And there's so little shade in the World Showcase...I'm glad you were able to get your favorite drink and sample some of the F&G booths. It must have been really nice not having to worry about which dishes contained dairy!

I forgot to chime in on the strawberries. Aria had the right idea - they were weird. and messy! I didn't even eat them all. :( They were big but honestly would have tasted better just fresh lol.

I just love La Cava. Can't wait to enjoy it again next trip!! LOL yes the sail thing didn't do much for me on this day!

They do a nice job, although I think in the future as the girls get older I'd like to do more of the special offerings (same with F&W). I think they may only have the bubble tea during F&G but could be wrong (it was at the booth). They also have it at Skippers. It's definitely a hit for Aria, too! (I also enjoyed it!)

I just have to chime in to say that Belle gown was unbelievably gorgeous! I don't know how you find things like that for your girls, I wish I had "known" you when mine were little!

Thank you so much! I spend WAY too much time on their wardrobes. I find a designer I like though and follow them - this one is from Primafashions and we own about 6 of her dresses - but Belle is definitely the most stunning to date IMO!

Following along - thanks for the great reports! my two year old is severely allergic to dairy, egg, and wheat - so always interesting to read reports with the allergy element :)

Aw thanks so much!! That'll happen more and more as we travel with Maya and she eats more. So I hope you find my input helpful, although of course we were really just learning at the time. In August and even moreso in December (since Maya was eating) I will delve more into traveling with an allergy kiddo.

Love that you and Aria did a mommy/daughter trip. Also your eating at the F&G booths is getting me excited for going this year! DH and I ate at a few of the booths when we did F&G in 2015 but I didn't plan to spend enough time there, so I'm planning better this time!

I can't wait to hear all about it, you'll have to do a follow up post on that!! I don't think I've seen the ROL Tiffins menu yet - I am really waiting to make sure that there is something on there for my picky self ;) (I enjoyed my meal in December but remember really only loving the appetizers, which has me worried for a set meal).

I rarely leave time to eat at the booths too - usually like to have my dining planned out. So it was really nice to include that (and it helped since I didn't know whether flights would be delayed or whatnot, so I deliberately didn't want to plan a TS ADR).

What a fun first day! Aria looks like she's really enjoying her time with just mom!

Thanks!! Yes we have a lot of fun together, still do <3 she is my little sweetie.

Agree completely - the rooms are HUGE and so nice to hide a PnP behind that partial wall for extra space. I can totally see staying there again even with 3 littles, which I can't say the same about most Disney rooms/studios (I'd want a 1 bedroom or more on Disney Property). With the DoD I pay the highest price - but for this trip got a really good room rate (89?) so that was awesome. The next trip I paid more like $140 which is still good, but I liked 89 better ;) Shady Shuttle would have been REALLY nice in December when I was 20 weeks pregnant, but with the big double stroller it just never seemed feasible.

I don't do well with special diets. Of course it wasn't until JUST before the trip we made the decision to switch to Neocate, so I had actually written down the few things I could try that were dairy/soy free and did a lot of research on the restaurants and such. Actually it's why I had a last minute addition of the Star Wars dessert party - just because I could! LOL

I'm home from Seattle! Well, technically at work. I flew in late last night - had a good time, but man I missed my family!! I left Saturday morning (2/11) so Andrew was home Saturday, Sunday AND Monday (snow day) so I had lots of photos and Facetime those days. Then he had to work Tues-Thurs so I tried bugging daycare and got 1 photo out of her lol!

No photos yet because they're all on my phone and apparently I used up about 4GB of data while out there, oops, but here's what I did:

Saturday was a LONG travel day, plus the time change, so I basically just spent the afternoon shopping at University Village, grabbed a pizza to take back to family's house, and went to bed early. Disappointed bc the store I worked at in high school (Pasta & Co) was undergoing a 2 week renovation that was not mentioned on their website, and it was closed!

Sunday I spent the morning driving around Madison Park, the area in Seattle I lived, and then decided to drive downtown to Magic Mouse Toys which is an awesome toy store in Pioneer Square in seattle. Left with a couple bags filled with toys to bring back for the girls lol (a couple I will give now, the rest I'll save for Easter or Christmas or whatever). Then drove back to family's house where the family got together that night which was SO nice! I met my little niece Annabelle (19m), saw her brother Charlie (4), and my step-sister, plus some distant cousins who have twins (11m). I missed my littles SO much!

Monday - headed downtown, shopped Pike Place Market and visited See's Candies where I filled a box of chocolates to bring home for Valentine's day. Met up with a HS friend for lunch at Wild Ginger. This was the LOW of the trip for me - Wild Ginger has had the same Seven Elements Soup on the menu since I started going there when I was 15 or so. Up until 2 weeks ago it was still there, and we made an Open Table reservation. Well, when we got there, they had literally JUST changed the menu and removed it! I was NOT happy. It didn't help that Asian overall doesn't sound good to me currently (preggo weirdness, I normally love it) so I had a curry salmon dish and it was just OK, but not my soup. I told our server about my displeasure and he said they have had a LOT of feedback and most likely will be bringing it back - but that didn't help me that day!!

Anyway after that, I said goodbye to my friend and went to the Chihuly Glass museum near the space needle. This was STUNNING, new since I lived there, and I would totally revisit it it was just beautiful. Then drove out to Keyport where I was staying the next 3 nights.

Tues/Wed I had meetings and really did nothing exciting. My room had a huge whirlpool tub so I enjoyed some relaxing warm (not hot!) baths and that was about the extent of my solo fun lol.

By Thursday I was SOOOO ready to get home!! That was a very long travel day too, though, with leaving the hotel at 5:45AM, driving 2 hours to the airport in traffic, flight delayed due to overweight baggage and having to remove some from the plane (way to go, Alaska!) and then waiting on the Boston end for a spot to open up, then my bag didn't show up. I got home around 8:30PM. Andrew kept Aria up (not that she was upset about that!!) and I got to see her, so that was fun! This morning I got to see Maya and she was happy to see me, so very nice to be home - and walking into a 3-day weekend!

I'll update on the TR as soon as I can! <3
