The MAGIC-al 12/03/05 Cruise - Trip Reports & Pictures Page 6*

:cool1: Thought I might leave some thoughts on our trip as well. I was way too busy during the trip to post anything. I will just start by saying that this trip was absolutely wonderful. It seemed that everything just clicked. The staff told us that we had the best weather that they had in the last two months.

We flew in Friday night and stayed at the Airport Clarion- $66/night with continental breakfast. Nothing fancy but a Seven Eleven close by so we were able to buy a few refreshments for our trip. We took the hotel van back to the airport and were on our way to Port Canaveral by 9:45 AM. We had been told the night before- by a Disney employee- that the earliest bus was 10:30 however we went early and got off early. Arrived at the terminal and were given a number 4 for boarding. I like that new process. We were a little dismayed however by the long check-in line for returning cruisers. Friends of ours who had not cruised before got in the "new" line after us and were checked in before us. The Costa Maya change was a surprise as we had heard rumors of this and our friends had even called Disney on Friday and were told it was Nassau. We had booked a Dolphin Enocunter at Nassau (not through Disney) but we were able to call them and cancel with no problem. I did receive an email saying cancelation confirmed- I just need to verify the cc now. We boarded the ship shortly after noon and went to make changes to Palo reservations and dining and then to TopSiders for lunch. We met up with the other Disers at 3 PM and yes the personalized M&M's were awesome. Did not see too many disers the rest of the trip as our kids were a little older than most (13 & 18) but we did see a few and the hints and infor we gathered before the trip were great. Even DH had to admit that the over the door shoe holders were a god send and now thinks we should take them on every vacation. Good Day overall.

A few highlights:

Key West- walked around and did some shopping. Walked to Hemingway house- did not take tour. Disney son wanted to see the house so he could tell his AP English Lit teacher he saw Hemingways home. We also had a margarita at Margaritaville and DH's both had beers at Sloppy Joes. We missed the sunset events as we were tired and had returned to the boat for dinner.

At Grand Caymen we did a non Disney excursion and it was excellent. We booked through a group called Buccanneers. We went to swim with the Stingrays at the Stingray Sandbar (absolutely excellent) and then they took us to two other spots to snorkel. Had a cash bar for after the three stops and allowed you to bring your own food and snacks. The tour company buidling had been destroyed in the hurrican so it was not much to look at but it was an excellent trip and I would recommend to anyone. A 5-7 minute walk from the pier.

We were surprised when we went to the Tortuga Rum company afterwards and were told that they had to deliver all rum orders to our ship and that Disney would not accept orders. I was a little confused and never did follow-up on this as we ended up purchasing some return alcohol from the ship.

Costa Maya was interesting. Since we had not planned anything ahead of time we booked an excursion through Disney. If your kids are a little older or if you are adults.....this was excellent. Disney listed it as new- it was a Dune Buggy Ride to the Beach. Approxi. 45 drive in the dune buggy (we did stop in the small fishing village Mahahual for a pee pee break as they called it). The buggys were not best of shape but lots of fun. It rained mildly on our way back and that is when we discovered we had no windshield wiper. The buggy's were also not automatic so remember that. There were seven of us so we rented 2 (max 4 per buggy) and let the DS 18 drive one. Kids in one and adults in another. The ride had more highway driving than off road driving but was awesome both ways. The beach was also a private beach that was beautiful and not very crowded. They had a kayak there that we could have used although due to rip tides they were not allowing use that day. Sand volleyball, floats, etc. were all availbable for or use. They also had beverages and chips & cheese to eat. We spent over two hours at the beach. I can't say enough about this one. :Pinkbounc :moped: :moped:

The Rainforest at the Spa. You have got to try it if you like those types of things at all. Very relaxing. They try to sell you a full weeks package but we were too busy on some days to use. We got the one day $15 pass on the two at sea days and loved it. The warmed seats and quiet sounds were awesome. Great mint shower and aromas. :cheer2:

Our second Magic trip but first time to Palos. It is wonderful and will never miss it again. I must say however that the Tiramisu is just as good as the chocolate souffle. We each had the chocolate souffle but our waitress (sorry I can't remember her name right now- she is from Argentina and married to one of the head Chef's on the boat) also brought us one each of two other desserts. Each was better than the other. It was such a relaxing night and wonderful. You can miss it. We did not know about their bar or would have been there sooner.

Kids again loved The Stack. DS and friend were both 18 but when we arrived on boat we checked in with couselors. They had to make a call to check but when discovered the boys were still in high school, they added their names to the list of kids who could use the stack. Smaller group of kids their age this time but they still had fun. DD (13) also went to stack and found several friends that she hung around with. Warming to all parents... the second night had the kids doing a scavenger hunt to look for items to dress up their team members. Don't plan an early evening (and by early I mean this was after midnight) as the kids will be into the room to scrounge for items.

Our waiters by the way were good but not excellent. Assistant server appeared to be new and was very slow. Head server had to do drinks and clear tables a lot so I did not get the extra helpings and special attention that I felt on our first cruise. It still was very nice but did not feel that they did as good of job of knowing preferences. As just an example- on the last day for breakfast, we had our food before we got our drinks. Again- still good food just not as impressive as last time.

I think that is enough for now. Thought this may be of interest since our kids were older. We did not have a day that was not absolutely wonderful. :cheer2:  :cheer2:  :Pinkbounc :wave2: :wave2:

Day 1 continued…….

Cast of Characters…….
Hannosmom and Dad – Linda and Ed, their DD chichi honey Sarah 23 and me – GrayFal.

We went back to our suite at 5:25 where we found our luggage – yippee – and got ready for “L-inner” a combination of lunch and dinner that is served at 5:45 pm every evening…our rotation was APL – which has 5:45 and 8 seating. I agreed to early seating so I could dine with friends but would not choose this option again – I ALWAYS felt rushed to get there on time and it was my observation as I was on time the 5 nights I dinned in the dinning rooms, that many people did not come in until 6 or after. The upside was as a table of 4, we were always out of the dinning room by 7:15 or 20. Next to us at a table for 8 was cjsmom97 Jeanna and family and CJLKim Kris & Jeff. Ed’s work friend Steve & Carmen were at the next table with their 2 sons. HallsofVA & family and Popovich Gailyn & family were also nearby.
Our servers were Jesse from the Philippines and Chanda from France and were great the whole week.

We rushed to Jewelry Jackpot Bingo – Linda, Jeanna & I – where we proceeded to lose Bingo but win the jewelry! Hannosmom Linda won a pretty amelite? necklace… Jeanna got a Medal - A BIG GOLD ONE!!!! for verifying the bingo board for the infamous Pikey..then Sarah chichi honey and I went to the All Aboard! Let the Magic Begin show in the Walt Disney Theatre – and it was wonderful – several ‘Broadway style’ production numbers and Freddy Fusion, the Magician……and the HYSTERICAL comedian Gary DeLena…if he was THIS funny at the family show, I can’t wait to see him at the adult version. Of course my favorite Guys – Chip n Dale were really the stars of the show….they are SOOOO talented.

Back to the suite to unpack, have an adult beverage and settle in and verandah-ize ……
It had been a long but exciting day…..and we were getting up early.

Day 2 – Key West - This is what I woke up to………
smallkeywestsunrise.jpg

We were headed for Key West – I went to the spa to have a pedicure at 8 am while Ed, Linda & Sarah went to the Character Breakfast at 8:15.
I stopped in at The Cove Café – which is a very nice, kid-free zone – and checked my email…
then on to the PALO Brunch for the Chicago AAA Group at 10 – 14 people in the private room at PALO.
Aleksandar from Croatia was our server and would wait on us 3 more times this week. Excellent service is an understatement!

Because of this wonderful extended brunch, we missed the Concierge Party at 11 – but as we were leaving PALO at noon,
we stopped by Deck 10 and spoke to Sonja and Arnaldo. They continued to provide excellent service to us throughout the week.

By this time, we were docked at Key West. The weather was beautiful and sunny – high 70’s. We opted to stay onboard for a leisurely day and take advantage of the half empty ship.
I strolled around the ship taking some pictures and finally settled in and had the drink of the day at the Quiet Cove Pool.
I ran into moochinkassarole & DH and their friends, CJLKim Kris & Jeff and the Hannosmom/chichi combo lounging in & around the pool
....BEAUTIFUL day!

Hannosmom and dad went to Bingo at 5 while Sarah and I got ready for “L-inner” at 5:45 at Parrott Cay.
Linda and Ed did not arrive until 6ish as bingo was not over until then – but Linda won ‘half-a-jackpot’- so she was feeling the Bingo Love from Pikey.
We sat with Kris & Jeff at their table as this was Jeanna and Rick’s night at PALO. After dinner, Sarah and a parent went to ‘Who Wants To Be A Mouseketeer’ at Studio Sea. Ed went to the Magician Freddy Fusion show at 10:15 and then re-enacted it for us later in our suite.
Linda and I went to the 10 pm Dive-In movie ‘Finding Nemo’ – what a great way to spend the evening……back to the suite at 11:30 for some adult beverages and to order our room service breakfast……Good Night!

Hey guys :wave2: ....I miss everyone...... :guilty:

Keep wandering around (now that everything has quit swaying) looking in my cupboards thinking how sad my choice in food is around here....where is Jessie when you need him. And my house.....tried the hang tag too...but no Violette.

Can November hurry and get here?

Okay...finally got presented with my engagement ring last night so I'm ready to split planning time between 11/06 and 03/07...... :sunny:

YIPPEE - Congrats on your engagement....Break out the Escargot!

Oh Pat do tell more, I feel like I am right there with you.

Disney fanatics thanks for your report to. Great ideas to consider. DH and I have grown children and they have children (notice I did not claim the gran children) so DH and I can do some adult activities and that buggy trip sounds good. We love to snorkel. Was the snorkeling good?

Day 3 – At Sea

Same cast and crew.....

Woke up around 7:30 for another busy day….Room Service Breakfast arrived at 8:15 brought by Dakila and ? (Linda, help me here!) We had our coffee and fruit looking out at the beautiful sea…..but we had to remind ourselves that we were even on a ship the sailing was so smooth. We could see the hills of Havana, Cuba in the distance.
smallcuba.jpg

View thru deck 4 door to Cuba - see the hills on the horizon

Linda, Ed and I went to our PALO Brunch at 11 – again, Alek ::MickeyMo was our server. The service and food was wonderful – I finally tried the ‘famous’ Stollen Bread with raspberry sauce and fresh whipped cream…yummy!

At 2pm, Linda and Sarah went to Studio Sea to make a Gingerbread House - the end result was not only beautiful but delicious, too….you had to eat it before you left the ship. I tagged along with Ed to the Tequila/Margarita :drinking1 tasting at Diversions – and met up with moochinkassarole Kitty & Jack. All who participated enjoyed their 3 shots :drinking1 and 2 Margaritas….
Linda and Ed then went to play Bingo – Sarah and I went to Cove Café
smallcovecafe.jpg

And then on to Martini Tasting at 4pm at Sessions. This is a very nice Lounge, the smallest of the 3 Beat Street Clubs – very cozy and sophisticated. You expect to see Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall at the bar! Anyway, Martini’s were okay – first one was a Classic Gin with olive – I prefer vodka – then an Appletini They made it one half vodka, one half sour apple – a bit tooooooo tart for me! Next was a Cosmopolitan which was good but red not pink (a little too much cranberry) and finally a Chocolate :drinking1 Martini, which was worth the trip. We did find that they made them the BEST at Sessions – not that great in Rockin D. I think the next time I will save my $15 and just buy 3 Martinis I really like!

Since this ended at 5pm, we went back to our suite to get ready for “L-inner” at 5:45 – Tonight we were in Lumiere’s for Formal Night. Unfortunately the Captain’s Welcome Reception started at 5:30 so we did not have time to attend. RUSH. The reception for the late seating started at 7:17, 45 minutes before the 8pm seating. Anyway, dinner was very nice – so far our meals have been 3 for 3 with everyone at our table happy with what they ordered. I did mention I didn’t care for the ‘dutch potatoes’ – pureed and re-baked. It was fun to see everyone dressed up – especially the kids. We went to go to the atrium after dinner but it was packed with the late dinner people at the Captains reception. Instead we took formal pictures by the Gingerbread House. After a little shopping, we went to the Golden Mickey’s – and what a great show! We even collected streamers that were shot AT us during the performance!

We then joined cjsmom97 :cheer2: Jeanna and Rick at Rockin’ Bar D for the adult after party – we were also joined by Steve and Carmen. We spoke with Pikey  about the “Turkey DISsers” and let me just say – He has NOT forgotten you guys! For Gosh Sakes – He even knows your REAL :earseek: names.
He described some of your antics in great detail….
smallpatnpikey.jpg

Pat and Pikey
After a little so-so dance music, we watched the Rock ‘n’ Roll Comedy of Gary DeLena :cool1: ….OMG, was he funny. :jumping1: We laughed out loud the entire hour he was on. We returned to the suite around 11:45 and sat up and talked for a while….called for breakfast and then off to bed.

I had to admit Kass into the hospital after catching a bug on the ship. :crazy2: Because he has diabetes, he had complications and had to be rushed to the hospital. He even got an ambulance ride after he was stablized to go to our hospital. Sadly, he wasn't feeling so great, so he didn't get to enjoy it really. :sad1:

He's doing much better. He was able to leave the hospital yesterday after keeping down some food. Yippee!! We kept him home today (Paris is so jealous! She says she needs to stay home from school to catch up on her sleep that she missed when she was on the cruise). I can't believe we pulled them out of school for the cruise and then get home to keep him out of 3 more days of school! ONLY to go back for 2 days and get TWO more weeks of no school!!! Geez Louise!

I really hope this doesn't put a damper on future cruises with Kass. I sort of fibbed saying it was probably the airport food that did it to him. I doubt he'll ever eat pizza in an airport again. ;)

Has anyone started decorating for the holidays yet or are you still unpacking? Maybe we should just decorate the piles of clothes and luggage!

Aloha!
Kitty :cat:

ps. I only took a sip of one of the tequilas, Jack drank all of mine as well as his! :drinking: Let's just say he was feeling pretty good. I think that's the night he re-booked for our next cruise. :cheer2:

Hey GrayFal- Great reports! So, tell us, what did Pikey say about the Turkeys? :rotfl2:

TCD

Kitty, sorry to hear about Kass. Has anyone else came down with any bugs? All are well our way!

No do the decorating....no to the unpacking. I just keep staring at the pile and wondering where Violette is!

I'll get stuff straighten around this week. When Jeff gets home this weekend we're supposed to go get the tree. Also have to finish shopping!!!

While I was doing the Gingerbread House with my DD, Pikey said hello (he's everywhere, isn't he?) and I mentioned that "Air guitar Katey says hello" and his eyes lit up, big Pikey smile and he said "You must be a Disboarder, I just love those guys!" He did regale us with some of your pool game exploits while we were in Rockin Bar D on formal night, but Grayfal will have to retell the stories, because I had too many chocolate martini's that night. :teeth:

Give Kass a big hug for us (but no pizza, :teeth: ). Sarah is sick with a bad cold, spending the day in bed today with a slight fever and lots of coughing. It's always something, isn't it? Back to the laundry for me.

Hey Linda- "Air Guitar" Katie is my DD! She and Pikey had a lot of fun together on the cruise.

We also did the Gingerbread House. Here is DD in the house before it was finished:

And here we are after we took Pikey captive (Mrs. TCD made us let him go):

I certainly agree that Pikey needs his own Fan Club - as Linda said he certainly is EVERYWHERE....
......could he possibly be a DISney Clone???
Here are a few more "Pikey Sightings"

Yes...Pikey is truly everywhere! I caught him down playing video games with the 12-14 year olds in the new Oceaneer's hang-out down on Deck 2. He was quite upset that the kids wouldn't get off the simulator so he could play with it!.....If only I'd had my camera at the time.......

fairygod mother- I don't have a lot of snorkeling experience to compare it to but we enjoyed immensely. Colors were not as bright as expected but we did get some rain while snorkeling so was pretty overcast. The reef however was beautiful and we loved the entire Stingray Sandbar and Snorkeling with Buccaneers.

CJLKIM- congrats on your engagement. I don't think we met on the trip but that is truley awesome. What Fun!!!

Kitty- so sorry to hear about your unwanted hospital stay!!! Not good! :confused3 Glad to hear that he is feeling much better and its too bad about the pizza. ::MickeyMo

Our kids too are finding the school work hard to catch up on. This is the first time we have ever pulled them from school as well. They however still have 4 days of school next week to catch up and today was the first snow day of the year so we were amazed at how hard both of them worked today to catch up. My son said he almost finished a British Lit paper on Jane Eyre that is due so.... hopefully the impact will be minimal.

As for the trip... a few more thoughts after reading the other reports: pirate:

We too found Sessions and loved it. The gentleman at the piano each evening was very good and it made for a relaxing evening. We went two nights - the first he was doing a collection of Frank Sinatra songs and the second he did Nat King Cole. He had a mix of well known and little known songs and gave you a little history along the way on each song. We found the slower pace to be nice at night when we were tired. We also discovered the Chocolatini's there.... we came home with a bottle of the Godiva Chocolate Liquor they use in them!! Excellent. :cheer2:

I've seen The Cove also mentioned. Another place we loved and by the way.... they make excellent chocolate martini's there as well as Irish Coffee and Hot Chocolate with Frangelica- a few of our late night favorites. The Cove is new since they moved the teen area to The Stack. It's in the old teen area and I think much better positioned. It's quiet, comfortable and in the evenings they have a nice assortment of cheese and crackers in a cooler. On the first day this was filled with desserts. There are also comfy seats outside of The Cove on the deck. DH's found that to be a great place to smoke their favorite cigars.... we would not let them do it anywhere inside. :rotfl:

OK- please don't hate me but I do have my unpacking done and I finished my decorating last night. I was almost done with decorating before we left and I'm a little anal that I had to unpack as soon as possible. I did almost all of it on Sunday. I worked on my Christmas Cards tonight although they are not done. That was another thing I did like about the trip- the Christmas Cards throught Disney were pretty reasonable as cards go. They do make you also buy the original photo but if that was your plan to begin with... it's not a bad deal and I felt good about ticking one of my Christmas List action items off.

I have shopping and baking to do as we will have visitors over the holidays but at this point I am not letting that get to me. I am still remembering the warm weather and try to think about the seat warmer in my car being similar to the heated loungers in the Rainforest at the Spa!! OK so I am really pushing it!! I loved this trip!!

It really wasn't the pizza, I just told him that so he wouldn't think that the next time he cruised he'd get sick. I'm sure he'd boycott the trip tooth and nail if he knew he caught the bug on the ship. So that's why I told Kass it was the pizza. ;)

I forgot to tell Treasures mom that I have a really cute photo of Treasure and Paris in front of the Christmas tree. I can't wait to get started on my scrapbook!! In fact, I think I'll go sort out photos right now!

Wow, Alex was our main dining room server on our cruise last Christmas! I'm so glad to hear he's promoted to Palo now. He was really a good server! My DS saved one of his extra tip cards just for Alex, because Alex would always find him plain cheesecake, no matter if it was on the menu or not.

ok where is more updates lol. i need more more more. i gave up this cruise for 11 days at WDW and 2 nites at MVMCP and it was worth it. we got to ride in the front of the monorail and got to open MGM as the first family.
