The Lion King is coming to Blu-Ray in Fall 2011 & theatres in 3D 9/16/11!

I bought DD8 the Tangled Blu-Ray/DVD today. Of course we had to come home after school and watch it. In the coming features it had a commercial for The Lion King: Diamond Edition Blu-ray - Fall 2011. You don't know how long I have waited for this news. We "had" the DVD version. Back in 2004, we sold our SUV and somehow our DVD holder was left in the vehicle. In it was The Lion King and about twenty other DVDs. I didn't realize we left the DVD holder in the other vehicle until about a month later when we were taking a trip in our new vehicle and I wanted the DVDs for the roadtrip. I had a knot in my stomach when I realized we never cleaned out under the passenger-front seat. Of course when we called the dealership, the car had already been sold or auctioned off and was no longer on their lot. For years, I have been writing Disney and begging them to re-release the movie on DVD. All those being sold online (ebay and amazon) were a ridiculous price ($35+). I have two children that have never seen The Lion King. I can't wait to introduce them to this Disney Classic.

Woo Hoo !!!!

THIS is the Blu-ray release I've been looking forward to most of all !!

(Obviously, I'm not alone in that ! )

I had assumed the next major "Diamond Edition" Blu-ray release would be "The Little Mermaid" to coincide with the opening of the new ride in Fantasyland. Perhaps that's going to happen as well.

Disney *knows* they're sitting on a gold (diamond ?) mine here. I'm fairly sure the Blu-rays most fans are clamoring for are from the resurgence in animation quality that started in the late 80's with Mermaid, and ended- arguably- with Pocahontas.

Aladdin can't be far behind.

I just hope they don't rush things too much and stick the incredibly high quality levels they've shown with "Sleeping Beauty", "Beauty and the Beast" and "Fantasia/Fantasia 2000" (which came out with surprisingly little fanfare...)

I had no idea Lion King was so hard to find on "regular" DVD. I'd be happy to let you borrow mine if that were possible.

Aladin came out in the UK on DVD a few years ago, but I've been waiting very impatiently for The Lion King!

I can't wait!

There was a preview for the Blu-Ray Lion King on the Sneak Peek section of Beauty & the Beast, but I didn't discover it until last week, lol!

I was so excited when the preview came on the Tangled disk. My daughter is already excited about it (she hasn't seen it before) and it is the one movie I have been chomping at the bit to get on Blu-ray!

Dumbo will be the one of the other Blu-Ray vault releases coming up soon. It was also on the Beauty Sneak Peeks.

We are very excited for Lion King. You can't even get a copy on Netflix, that's how hard it is to find.

Dumbo is out at the moment in the UK. Weird how the vault is different in different countries!

Wasn't Tangled simply one of the most awesome Blu-rays out there? We just watched it, and I was stunned at how amazing it looked and how great the story was (we LOVED Max, the horse). We also watched Sleeping Beauty, recently--fantastic!

I can't wait for The Incredibles next month, The Lion King will be awesome, as well as Aladdin.

Not only is The Lion King being released on Blu-Ray this fall ...

Announced today, The Lion King will be back in movie theaters on Sept. 16, 2011 in 3D!

OFF TOPIC:
My favorite movie is being re-released next year in 3D too ...

Titanic is returning to theaters on April 6, 2012 in 3D!!!! Can you imagine the sinking scene in 3D? I am there!

I'll be honest, we have a great home-movie theatre and don't plan to run out and purchase one of those new 3D tvs anytime soon. So, the only way the production companies can get me to the movie theatre these days is having a GOOD 3D movie.
