The large number of new Aulani resale contracts??

I'm so tempted to start offering lowballs on some of these but I keep telling myself that I should stay at Aulani at least once before buying there 🤣

Did anybody buy Aulani sight unseen and would you recommend it? 😅

Meeee! I was so nervous I wound arrive and not love it and be mad at myself. The opposite happened. We loved it so much! Soon I will have 415 points there.

I am just not really seeing all this price dropping people are mentioning. I guess for stripped contracts they are low, but that is always the case. A year ago we bought another loaded contract for a better price than most the listings floating around now.

To answer you question, we bought sight unseen, and have never regretted it. Original intention was to use the Aulani points are sleep around points (still the best deal out there), but we like it so much we have purchased more over the last couple years.

I mean I haven't seen it move much, but with a bunch of contracts sitting it may be a good time to get a low ball offer accepted if you try hard enough. I can see some full contracts around 100 and stripped around 80. Who knows how low you may be able to get someone to accept an offer on those

Do it!

Aulani is fantastic as long as you have the expectation that it’s a Disney Deluxe Resort and not a 4 Seasons or Ritz Carlton.

Lots of kids/families.

Harder to book during times when kids are out of school and holidays.

Worst views go first.

People hoard chairs during the busy season.

Booking a character breakfast is not easy.

Yeah, you should do it.
Are you a west coaster? Sometimes it is cheaper and faster for us to get to Aulani than to Orlando.
No, middle of the country unfortunately. About the same to DL or WDW for me.

Stupid questions…
How often do subsidized contracts show up on resale?
How much more do they typically go for?

Do the Disney two-step. DLand for two days and then Aulani for 5 days.
We did something similar to this a few months ago, but a 4n+7n. It's unlikely we will do it again, though for reasons that I think are somewhat niche.

We did a 4-night Wed-Sun at VGC then a 7-night Sun-Sun at AUL. The trip was great! But in the future we're going to do a Wed-Sun at DL then a separate 8-night Sat-Sun at AUL (or even a 9-night Sat-Mon if we can time it with a holiday weeknd), even if they're separated by only a week.

Reasons we're unlikely to do the 4n+7n split-stay again:
  • We want more AUL time, and by changing our stays we can add another AUL day without taking more vacation time
    • Separating our stays also gives us a half day more DL time
  • We drive to Disneyland (and no one has built a bridge to AUL yet*), so the logistics of driving to DL then flying to AUL then getting home were unnecessarily complicated and added expense as renting a car for the first leg is the most efficient
  • We don't want to spend any of our AUL time 'recovering' from DL
  • We want to pack a little differently for the two trips
    • For example, we usually bring some creature comforts to DL that are simply too heavy to fly with, which means we can't bring them on the combo trip at all

* this is a joke

They show up fairly regularly… I’d guess around 1 in 20 is subsidised (maybe slightly less). But they don’t tend to hang around that long.

For a non-stripped contract, I’d estimate they go for around $20 more pp. sometimes more.

March and February UY subsidized contracts show up regularly, probably a couple per month (especially MAR UY). Other UYs can be rarer, as rare as one per year.

As for how much more they typically go for? I think it's pretty close to $30/pt more right now. They regularly list for $125-129, are often stripped, and sell quickly, indicating they go for close to list. Sometimes deals come up, or one lingers long enough to negotiate down. I think that dvcresalemarket.com is often the cheapest listings for subsizided, oddly (their 'what should I sell for? tool undervalues subsidized, IMO). Meanwhile, non-subsidized is going for mid-$90s/pt for similarly spec'd contracts these days.

There were a couple for sale earlier this week for just over $100pp. that was a very good price.

Lots of kids/families - We LOVED this.

People hoard chairs during the busy season - I was scared about this, but we did fine arriving at the pool later in the day after the beach or excursions

Booking a character breakfast is not easy. - I had a very easy time getting reservations. Had 4 and cancelled 2 went to 2.

It all depends on when you go, but I try and see realistic expectations for people.

Character breakfast…. Having been multiple to Aulani multiple times I can unfortunately report that the vast majority of the time during the summer or holidays it will go within minutes after availability opens.

don’t the CM do anything when people hoard the chairs? If not used in 30min the towels etc are removed?

In Europe Germans are the worse etc they do the same by letting their towels stay on sunbeds for hours without using them.

If there are an official policy and no one takes action I time my watch and remove the towels. I don’t give a f#%# - either use it or lose it.

Yes, they’ll remove your things and store them near the towel booth after certain time.

I was there in October and the chair situation was fine, but that’s not peak season. Around the main pool and infinity pool chairs were difficult, but easy elsewhere.

True which is good. From reading these boards I went with the expectation I’d be sitting in the sand never getting a chair. So I was very happy with our outcome.
