Hi there friends, loved ones, and lurkers alike! We are off for yet another exciting trip to WDW! This trip is different than the others.... more exciting really! It is our very 1st trip "Home" since we bought into DVC this December:woohoo: It is also exciting... and a bit terrifying... because it will be a whole 10 days... with just me and my boys! My DDs are staying with Grandma (my Mil) for this trip. Why do you ask? Well, I learned the hard way that even though family time is sweet and precious, some vacations are far more condusive for our entire family than others. Me, DH, and the girls  WDW. DS, not so much:eek: My DH and DS are laid back and dont like to ride many rides.... the girls bounce ME out of bed at 6am, ride everything, and don't want to leave the park at closing!! So as you can see, there is a definate difference in touring styles:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I took my DDs and my Mama to WDW in Feb 08, while the boys stayed home. This trip is all about the BOYS! We are planning some non-disney days:scared1: which I'm not so sure about, but at the same time I am pretty excited to try something new. Besides, we are DVC owners now...so I'll be back, and often:thumbsup2 So sharing my Disney days with greater Orlando isn't as big of an issue now!

Oh! I didn't give you my trip dates!! Silly me LOL!! We are going to leave home on July 20th, arrive at Disney's Vero Beach for a lovely 2 night stay the 21-23. On the 23rd we will be travelling to Orlando to stay at Saratoga Springs from July 23-30. We are DVC owners at Kidani Villiage, but for this trip, we are using the bonus developers points we recieved....so we have to stay at SSR. I hope to visit Kidani though, while we are there:goodvibes

Before I close out this first post... I'll introduce you to the cast!

DH.... Tom:

Tom is a 38, he's been putting up with me for a full 15 years, so there's the proof that he has the patience of a saint!! Tom works full time as a customer service phone monitor, but is also a volunteer firefighter :firefight Being a fireman is his passion, but unfortunately, he had to have a cornea transplant in 1998 (and needs another, but is putting it off:sad2: ) so he can not get a position as a paid fireman, due to his medical history.

Tom will be turning 39 on this trip on July 29th. Thats why we are going in the middle of the swealtering summer heat! We originally planned to go during free dining at the end of August, but since we had DVC points now, we could be more flexible with our dates. Tom also decided that we should spend a couple days at the beach...just to relax:goodvibes

Me.... Paula

35 years young, pharmacist. Lover of all things Disney. My motto is.."I write the checks, so I get to go" referring to all trips to WDW, regardless of which 'set' of us is making a particular trip.:rotfl2: I spend a crazy amount of time here on the boards... enough time that Tom has concerns that I'm a member of a Disney 'cult' I'm more or less a commando WDW girl, but I have high hopes of being able to relax and 'go with the flow' on this trip. Other than planning ADRs and which park(s) each day, I'm trying not to over-schedule... the boys won't stick to it anyway:lmao:

DS.... Kyle

13 years old (will be 14 in May for our trip), a total photophobe (I really have to dig for pics of this kid...he hates cameras!!), and a Disney pooh-pooher that only really enjoys AK and Epcot. There are a couple attractions in DHS and MK that he likes, but as a whole has little interest in those parks. He is a major determining factor in my planning, as you will see in future episodes. To give you a hint of what is to come... he is afraid to fly, doesn't like 'rides', eats constantly (I have a BIG food budget for this trip LOL!!), prefers video games to anything that causes sweating, does NOT like to get up early, AND he thinks I'm pretty much the most boring and annoying person in his universe;) I hope that this trip will give us the opportunity to get a little closer, I won't deny the fact that I probably AM the most annoying person in HIS universe...but it's time for him to learn that I'm NOT boring:rotfl:

Nobwick... the luckiest gnome on Earth!!

Nobwick is a very special member of the Mickey Marcettes and has the good fortune of traveling with each of us this year!! DS is not so sure about sharing his quality time with Nobby, but I'm happy that nobby will be coming, so i have someone to ride all the "big" rides with and talk to in line!! LOL!! I believe Nobwick is travelling to WDW at least 6-8 times this year and has camping trips and a vacation to the Carribean planned too. I hope that he isn't too tired for our trip! If he is, I guess he can hang out at the pool with Tom and Kyle.

My DDs Allison (7) and Noelle aka "Ellie" (10)

They are not going on the trip...but you will hear plenty about them thru the course of my PTR!

Well I'll leave this 1st post here. I hope that you'll come along for what is sure to be quite an adventure!!

There's a helpful index in the next post!!

Welcome welcome!!!

I posted them on my DISign thread... i'm trying to stay organized LOL!!!
I forgot that I didn't put them on the gnome thread... getting confused in my old age :lmao:

It's probably better to save them off of smug anyway, cause you can pull up the "original" size. I made everything based on 8x10 so that the resolution is better:thumbsup2

Hi! I'm here! Can't wait for another Paula TR! :goodvibes

I also love that Nobwick is part of the cast. Too cute! :)

I think it's great that you'll get to have quality time with your boys. That will make it extra special. And as excited as I am about all the Disney stuff, of course, I am also really excited to hear about Vero and also whatever greater Orlando area activities you do.

The next 6 months will FLY by.

And who knows... you are there over my birthday. I don't need the free admission b/c I have an AP but as an alternative you get a $75 gift certificate... wonder if I can make that fuzzy math work? :rolleyes1

Welcome Christine!!! I'm sure if a bday trip is in your mind... we can FIND a fuzzy disney math equation to make it work!!! Developer Points comes to mind:rolleyes1

It would be fun to meet up there! I adore my boys, but i've already told them that I'll probably have a little solo time too:rolleyes: I's really love to try out that SSR spa... don't think they'd be interested... but then again i know that they want to check out Disney Quest!!

Paula

Morning friends!!

I thought that I'd give you all a little taste of what our travelling plans will be for the start of our trip. :goodvibes I will be getting off work at 7am on Monday July 20th. The 'plan' is that everything will be packed except for last minute stuff and loaded in the car on Sunday, before I leave:scared: AND drop my DDs at my Mil house on my way to work. We'll have to see how well that works out LOL!! So I'll drive home after work and get to my house about 8am-ish. Load the boys up, and off we will go to VIRGINIA!!!

Virginia??? Why Virginia?? Well, because we are NOT flying..since Kyle has an irrational fear of airplanes. Instead, we are taking the famous (or not) AutoTrain!!

AutoTrain.jpg

We took the AutoTrain in 2006...was a really nice way to travel:goodvibes For those of you not familiar with it... There are People cars, and Auto cars. You get in the people cars and they put your car in an auto car. So when you get to Sanford Florida (approx 45min north of WDW) you have your own car there!!

Inside the train, there are both sleeper and coach seats available. We do coach. The sleeper cars make me a bit closterphobic! We need to check in at the station by 2pm... and the train leaves at 4pm. We will get a nice included dinner and then can watch a movie in the lounge, or read, or play on my computer til we get tired and fall asleep. When we wake up, we will be in Florida!! The train arrives in Sanford around 8:30am. We will then get to detrain and wait (sometimes quite a while) for them to get our car off....then we will be on our way!!

Here are a couple random train pics, I linked from the internet...

The Lorton Station
Lorton_38.jpg

outside of the 'people cars' notice how tall they are?? You sit on the 2nd floor (unless you are in a handicap seat..they are on the 1st) This is nice, because it's quieter, cause you are farther away from the tracks! You have to go down the stairs to the bathrooms though. My kids thought that was a lot of fun..walking down the steps on a swaying train:laughing:

Here's a pic of them unloading the cars:

I have pics of my own from our last trip... but they aren't digital. I'll see what I can do about posting them too at some point. But at least you have the idea! The trip from my house to the train is about 3 hours... the train takes about 17.5 hrs to get to Florida. There are no stops, its straight thru.

The plan is.. leave home around 9am. Stop and have lunch around Maryland. And easily arrive at the station before 2pm. I know I'll be tired after staying up all night, so Tom may have to drive. I do most of the driving, because i get car sick...even in the front seat..if I don't drive. Which brings up another point... i get 'train-sick' too:sick: The last time i drugged myself up good with meclizine and wore the "sea-bands" bracelets. I had no problems at all:woohoo: I hope this trip works out the same:cloud9:

I think the AutoTrain sounds like a lot of fun!! I love that you can just relax and enjoy the ride. :goodvibes

I don't think i could do what you and marc are attempting!! This way, we will both be able to sleep...but it'll be timed like we drove stright thru:goodvibes I would much rather fly... 2hrs-done. But one must make compromises:upsidedow The train is a good one. Kyle doesn't have to fly and i don't have to drive:thumbsup2

Sounds like a very good compromise. Has Kyle ever flown before?? :confused3

I'm not so sure how excited I will be to drive back home from Disney. I'll probably be a huge crankpot!

No he hasn't... part of me wants to just make him, but I don't think it's worth the :headache: headache LOL!! He was 6years old on 9/11 so i think that has alot to do with it. He was old enough to know sorta what was going on, but not old enough to understand that it wasn't 'normal' ya know??? It's very deep rooted now, and hard to get him to shake that deep fear that something will happen if he gets on a plane:confused3

Ahhhh, that makes sense. Does he get nervous when you fly too? I'm sure as he gets older, he'll be able to work through it. :goodvibes

Actually he does... it's funny, he usually doesn't notice what I'm doing/where i am.... but when i went on my solo trip, he kept asking tom if he heard from me..and watching the news, until i checked in:lovestruc He's a good kid, just very emotionally reserved (like his dad). So it was odd for him to show all that concern!

He better work thru it! he wants to enlist in the military... they aren't gonna put up w/ the Richie Valens no flying nonsense:rotfl2:
