The job hunt is really frustrating me right now.

So thankful for answered prayers for you, Foxhound!
I'm sure you did very well, and I think I can say we are all proud of you :thumbsup2.

It's been six days and I still haven't heard anything back about my background check. I know it's clean, I have no criminal record, never even gotten a traffic ticket, but it usually only takes 3 days for a background check to clear doesn't it?

I'm not sure where you are located, but Hurricane Helene and the diversion of resources there may be having some effect. And 2 of these days have been weekend days. Just hang in there.

No, it all depends on whether they are doing a DOJ check.
My employer - one of them took a day for a candidate and when they submitted another candidate a week later, it took almost a month. DOJ somehow got so backed up in that week :P

Did they give you an approximate start date or when they would reach out to you again? I had to get a new medical billing job and despite what my former company did to us telling us last November right before Thanksgiving they were letting almost all of us all go for awful offshore by the end of February after we had been there almost 20 years I still wanted to give 2 weeks notice of my resignation so my new company and I agreed on a date the beginning of February where I could do that. I had to go to a certain lab in my area for a drug test and they ran a background check and maybe a week before I was going to start is when I was e-mailed info for my first day nothing was ever mentioned when I passed the background check and drug test just got what I needed to start including equipment sent to my house since it is a remote job.

They simply said as soon as my background check cleared, they'd be in touch to discuss a mutually acceptable start date.

Congrats on the job front!

I am trying to get to the job fair this week which is not far and timing is okay with my Dad's appointment. I might do a walk in interviews on Tuesday for a department store. I have some issues with my go to outfit (lost a little bit of weight).

I am liking what this county offering in what they offer in career search and hopefully I get some skill certs done this week (they offer 6 months to get some certifications). I am still trying to know the area.

People are traveling right now, lots of people go as soon as the kids start school so maybe someone in HR is out of office, best of luck

Alright, all the onboarding is finished. Says I have a start date of 10/14 but the email says that the supervisor will be calling me soon to discuss a start date that works for both of us.

So I'm gonna try and squeeze in a trip to Disneyland this Wednesday before my start date. Haven't used my Magic Key since February, need to start using it if I'm going to get my moneys worth out of it.

Now I'm looking for a job and it's all in vain. I'm not looking for something super cool, just normal conditions and an average salary. But now it seems to me that it is impossible to find such a job

My sister is in a similar position. She's sitting at home with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, and the only job she was able to secure in the last year was Cashier at 7-11.

It's a tough market out there, and I know it's probably not what you want to hear, but you just gotta keep trying. If I can get a job, anybody can. It may take time but if you are persistent and cast your net out wide enough, somebody will be willing to give you a chance.

It's only over if you stop applying. Don't give up. I went through probably forty rejection letters before Salvation Army extended me the offer. You just gotta push through the rejection and keep fighting.

Is your sister willing to move to where the jobs are? A lot of times there are jobs out there, just not where the person lives. I realize that isn't always possible, but depending on the type of job and pay, it may be worth it. Although remote working is growing, my husband and I have accepted that there are only certain places we can live due to our jobs. And I tell my kids to consider where they want to live someday and make sure that the careers that they want to pursue line up with that. I hope your sister and the other poster find jobs soon.

That actually could be part of the problem, she lives on an Island. Knott Island in North Carolina, specifically. So finding something local could be a problem for her if remote jobs for HR aren't available at the moment.

Fortunately her husband is a supervisor for Aflack and works from home, and does more than well enough for them both. She wants to work less for the money and more to occupy her time and be productive.

So thankful for answered prayers!
I hope you're getting good sleep right now,
and that your day & week go very well for you.

First day is in the books. Today was all about stocking and recovery. Tomorrow will be learning how to process the donation trucks. There's a lot to take in with this place, but I think with time it'll all become second nature.

It'll take some getting used to having constantly changing hours and different days off every week (always split apart, never back to back), but as long as I stick to a routine I think I'll be fine.
