The International Ice Hockey thread covering Team 🇺🇸 and Team 🇨🇦. Is everyone excited for the 4 Nations face off in February 2025? What are your early predictions and who are your must have players on your nation's roster?

One thing I wish international ice hockey would copy international soccer would be to have international breaks during the NHL season to have international friendlies for the national teams. This would help grow the sport and give smaller ice hockey nations opportunities to play more often, thus increasing the level of ice hockey overall.

Who are the 25 players you want for the 4 nations face off for your national team?

Hey @prairie_girl and @mommasita , how excited are Canadians for the 4 nations faceoff in your opinion?
Not sure about the country as a whole lol

My first thought is PLEASE take care of Conner and Hellebuyck, we don’t want them injured. Second is that our goaltending isn’t outstanding so I don’t think us winning is a lock. I’ll maybe watch a game or two.

Do you want international ice hockey breaks to become more frequent like they do every year in soccer?

No, I don’t. I honestly don’t really see the point to this tournament. Every game a player plays outside of the NHL is just another opportunity for someone to get injured.

Meh. That’s how I feel.
I echo Prarie_girl. No injuries pleeeze. I have 92 reasons why ! 😋

It’ll bring a lot of attention to hockey, but Boston and Montreal don’t need it. They could have chosen other cities.
Furthermore, where are the women In all this ??

It's preparation for the Olympics and a way for NHL to make money at the same time. Most sports do international breaks within professional league seasons every year. Hockey is going to start following the FIFA model eventually. It's just going to take the NHL and European/World Leagues to make a bigger agreement to follow that format with the International Ice Hockey Federation. It's coming and the players want it.

I understand.

This being a last minute tournament, they want it to sellout so they can expand it in some way in the future.

If this works (as I know it will once it becomes expanded and properly formatted), I believe it will happen in some way in the near future.

The next two Olympics and World Cup/Championship are key for a more global outreach. Expect more of this in the future with even lesser known nations to gain exposure. There are currently 84 ice hockey national teams registered in the world. They want FIFA member numbers sooner than later. Soccer and ice hockey fans often overlap and I think that's part of the plan.
