The importance of Travel Insurance, Passenger stuck in Aruba

My comfort zone wants me to be able to be transferred back to a medical facility that I'm comfortable with, with my doctor, who knows my medical history. Yes, there are hospitals in most locations that I travel, but possible language barriers, having to pay up front for procedures, and unknown doctors are out of my comfort zone.
And some injuries and illnesses are not just treat and release. You can have something more severe that you will have to continue care back home and will still need a medical evac. For me, the small amount of money that trip insurance is compared to what if, is worth it. If I don't have a spare $120 for my insurance, I probably should not be going on an international vacation.

Just keep in mind that medical evacuation insurance is mostly a tool of last resort. In most cases they will only cover transportation if the insurance company determines that the medical care available at local facilities is inadequate and that the transportation is medically necessary. Personal preference is not a factor.

We have a plan that will cover the patient and traveling companion, bringing us back home to the facility that we choose.

That's a pretty solid policy then--I certainly would prefer to be treated close to home so I don't blame you for choosing it. Almost every policy I've read the fine print on it will let you choose the facility, but only once the insurance company has determined that the available local facilities are inadequate for treatment.
