The "I Didn't Have To Cook For 8 Days" DDP review ... 10/13 - 10/20

Okay – now we’re back to Friday. We left the MK for a break – something I thought I’d never, ever do while at Disney. I really didn’t want to do this, but Handsome needed a nap, the MK was getting packed, and speaking of packing – I needed to get a jump on packing. We had to return home the next day. I really didn’t want to think about that.

I think that the next-to-the-last day of any trip is the worst of all. You’re still there and having fun, but then you gotta prepare to return to reality. Yuck.

After packing, a short swim and a nap, it was time to eat – again. There really wasn’t anywhere we were desparate to eat at in the MK, so we chose the Riverside Mill again.

By this time in the trip I wasn’t being too picky about what I ate, or where we ate. So we got our meals and this time we gave in and let the kids sit in the TV area. By this time in the week we were ready for a bit of a parenting break, whatever it happened to be!

So, I guess you want to know what we got for our meals, huh? I wasn’t being very adventurous, so since I loved the pasta of the other day, I got the same thing, only with chocolate cake instead of a Mickey rice krispy treat:

Yes, this was just as yummy as before, but since I just about had enough food for this trip I really didn’t enjoy it as much as the first time. All I kept thinking was that I should’ve chose something I hadn’t had before. The chocolate cake was rich and creamy and yummy, but I gave up after a few bites. There was just no more room in the tummy anymore.

Handsome always is up to trying something different, which is easy for him to do since he doesn’t take forever to make up his mind. This time he chose the Muffeletta with potato chips, Mickey rice krispy treat & cranberry juice:

Look at all of that meat! Yum!

I had read about the Muffeletta on the DIS but I really didn’t know what it was. I took a bite and loved it! All I got was a bunch of meat, cheese & bread, but none of the olive spread. That may have changed my mind a bit if I had tasted the olives, just because I’m not too much of an olive fan.

He devoured the whole thing.

The kids had no problem making up their minds, as usual. Here’s their choices:

Buddy boy got the pasta & marinara sauce kids meal with applesauce, chocolate chip cookie & milk

There was nothing left of this meal when he was done with it. I think that he liked it. He also had no problem putting away my garlic bread, either. He ate his meal very fast so he could go over and watch cartoons.

Sweetie Girl got the fried fish Kid’s meal with carrots, applesauce & milk:

That was a big hunk of fish. She had a hard time eating all of it. She ate the applesauce & we took the carrots with us for a future snack.

We returned to the Magic Kingdom after somehow managing to pry the kids away from the cartoons, coloring pages, musical instruments and spontaneous parades around the dining room, all courtesy of some very fun CM’s. They did a fantastic job of entertaining the kids, and they looked like they were enjoying themselves, too!

Next: The Food and Whine Festival.

Oops - I just remembered that I have a few more installments for this thread... Here's the first one.)

Remember my tip of the day, “Don’t be on the DDP during the Food & Wine Festival?” Well, it’s true. There were so many things that we wanted to try, but our tummies were just too full to add anything else into them. It was almost downright depressing.

But we did sample two things. We had to, ya know?

The first was from the Twinnings iced tea stand:

(That's not the stand, just the advertisement for it. I neglected to get a photo of the stand... :sad2:)

Some very basic but low caffeine Green Tea Mint iced tea. Aaahhh. I love tea, just about as much as I love chocolate. No sugar, just iced tea as it was meant to be – tea, water and lots of ice.

Doesn’t it look just refreshing? I bet you want one now, don’t you?

The only other snack we had was from the Dominican Republic: Pastelon de Platanos Amarillos - Ripe plantain with Vegetable Casserole topped with Avocado. MMMMmmm mmmmmm, Good!

Handsome & I got hooked on plantains when we were honeymooning in Jamaica. So I just had to try this combo, and it worked! It looks awfully horrid, but the plantains were nice and sweet, and the mix with the avocado very different. I’ll have to try this at home sometime. I did pick up the Festival cookbook so I could at least make some of these delicious goodies that I didn’t have the room to try on our trip.

And the Whine? That was me every time we passed a F&WF booth with all the yummy foods that I couldn’t even fit into my tummy, even if I tried. Next time we’ll know better. But at least I did the next best thing - I purchased the Festival cookbook. Yum yum!

Next: Sunshine Seasons

I love there tea. I drink it all the time.

Wow, awesome reviews! You guys sound a lot like my famly (not big eaters and chocolate lovers.) so your reviews are very helpful. Thanks!

Thanks very much for sharing your reviews with us, I am really enjoying reading them.

Only halfway through your report, but I'm really enjoying it! Tell me, is the Joy of Tea only there for F&W or all the time? I'm a tea freak - I hate coffee breath too! yuck!

I'm glad that you're enjoying the reveiws!

Yes - the Joy of Tea is there year round. It's located near the lagoon, so you'll be able to see it even if you don't go into China. And I never did try the tea place in AK - we were in full commando mode when we passed by there so I wasn't allowed to stop. Maybe next time...
