The Hill Family's Surprise Vac(PICS)*NEW*Final Thoughts,Tips & Pictures **4/25

Okay folks, evidently, CherokeeMamma thinks HER family, HER life and HER job are more important than WE are, so I'll write a bit about her.

I met CM (not to be confused with Cast Member) at The Grand Floridian for Tea. The place was gorgeous!

IMG_0772.jpg

CM has the friendliest face, and the kind of smile that puts you at ease.
IMG_0763.jpg

We had a great time at the tea, and I will admit that I had "camera envy" when we started taking pictures. I don't know what kind it was, but next to hers, mine looked like it was made by Mattel! :rotfl2:

We all became fast friends, and said that we would all keep in touch!

IMG_0761.jpg

After the tea, we all went our separate ways, but I think we'll always remember "The Tea".
IMG_0751.jpg

OK CM, that's the best I could do! Hope you come back soon!

Thanx GMax for filling in! We appreciate the commentary and description of CherokeeMama.

Now, if only CM would come back for another installment! popcorn::

Hello to all my DIS Friends,

I hope you all had a very Happy Thanksgiving and that you all are doing well. I want you all to know that I am here still in GA and still a Disneyholic. I have to tell you guys that you are so sweet to wonder about me. I feel so loved.

I do not want to make a ton of excuses...BUT I have a few. My life has been just insane the last few weeks. First off, the problems with the computer(Probably my biggest issue) :badpc: , then DD has been sick with strep throat and the stomach bug, then I got sick with a terrible cold turned sinus infection, I have also developed a ganglion cyst in my wrist that is really giving me fits. (any advice on this?) My work has been really crazy (I work at a church so Christmas is a busy time), the holidays and just plain ol' exhasution. We are running here and there. I really truly hope you all are not mad at me. I feel so badly that I am so slow. :sad2: I hope you will all forgive me for leaving you hanging so long. I will do better. :thumbsup2 I have missed hearing from you all and I am hopeful that you will keep reading.

Thanks Ya'll....Cherokeemamma

We left the wonderful character meet in a rush to the 50’s Prime Time Café. We had eaten here on our last trip and really enjoyed it. My kids had referred to our waitress as ‘insane’ if that gives you any indication what type of place this is. We rushed because we just might be late and we did not want to make Mama mad. Thankfully it was very close by and we were just on time. We were greeted with a smile and told that we would be seated shortly. We indeed had a very short wait; maybe 5-7 minutes.

We were seated and given the menus and noticed that nothing had changed. This year our waiter was ‘Uncle Dale’. He was quite a character – this evening was looking like a lot of fun. Uncle Dale came back to take our orders and go over the DDP. He said we could order a shake for our beverage; he went on to give us all the flavors in a very speedy way. He then announced very loudly that his favorite was the PB&J shake. My kids and hubby looked like YUK! No way. I happen to absolutely love PB so I said, “OK Uncle Dale since you insist it is the best I’ll try it”. He kinda whispered and said if I didn’t like it we could arrange a swap with another flavor. It was different but very good. If you like PB you must try this…it is very good and different. Not an overwhelming PB taste – more of a subtle PB&J flavor but it is very rich and I couldn’t even come close to drinking all of it.

Let me say if you are a person who enjoys food; it is extremely hard to count calories on the DDP. Obviously, we have absolutely no willpower in our family so we all ordered a shake. My DH had a chocolate malt, DS had a root beer float and DD ordered a plain chocolate. We then ordered our appetizers. DD had chicken noodle soup, DS and DH had the shrimp cocktail and I had the fried herb cheese. I would say we all enjoyed our appys very much - I had the herbed cheese last year and it is very good so if you are unsure of what to get when eating here I highly recommend this one. There is enough to share and it comes with some fruit and bread. Uncle Dale was great and he came around often and always had something entertaining to say. He had a lot to say about alcoholic beverages and how he had this or wanted that. He was a hoot! He did notice my DS’s birthday badge and they had a great time going back and forth with one another. Uncle Dale had came up with his own name for Justin …he was now known as Spanky! DS thought that was hysterical as did DD. Uncle Dale was very prompt and accurate with all of our orders as well as those sitting in our section.

disneysept06-465.jpg

I must tell ya – our dining neighbors were definitely on the dull side. They did not interact with Uncle Dale at all. It really does take some of the fun out of the evening so if you are going to dine here or one of the other interactive eateries have fun…lighten up and go with the flow. There is probably no one who will report back to your family and friends that you were acting wild and crazy and having fun while dining at WDW.

Our dinner arrived quickly. Everything was very good and arrived hot. DD had the kid’s grilled chicken which came with mashed potatoes and corn (because she doesn’t eat green beans).

DS had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans, DH had chicken cordon blue (or something similar) sitting atop some sort of potato and carrot hash (I think it was called a vegetable hash) and I had the roast beef with mashed potatoes and julienne vegetables. We all enjoyed our food very much. DS did not care for all of the gravy. He commented that he did not know it would be like that! I would say he liked his least of all.

disneysept06-467.jpg

Uncle Dale came and took our dessert order. I was completely stuffed and ordered the kid sized build your own sundae along with DD. DS and DH ordered a hot fudge sundae. Before our desserts arrived Uncle Dale came out with a b-day cupcake for DS. He had him stand in the middle of the room while we all sang to him. Uncle Dale sang very, very loud and very, very off key – my kids thought that was a riot. :teeth: DS got a real kick out of it – he doesn’t mind being the center of attention.

disneysept06-472.jpg

disneysept06-471.jpg

disneysept06-474.jpg

Then our desserts arrived and, “Yes!” they were good. :thumbsup2 We once again enjoyed our meal at the 50’s and had a great time because of outstanding and hard working CMs. So Thanks Uncle Dale for a fun and memorable evening. BTW, I did see someone in the adjoining room being fed their green beans. So remember, eat your veggies and no elbows on the table!

disneysept06-476.jpg

As we rolled ourselves out the door of the 50’s PTC we headed to get in line for Fantasmic. It was a large crowd but not uncontrollable. We found some very good seats but we had a 30 minute or so wait. I did not think that was bad at all. On the way into the amphitheater I saw the new CM from MI. Poor guy was still sweating buckets! Once we got seated we started to notice a lot of cloud cover. Then we began to feel an occasional drip. The announcement kept being played that in the event of rain the performance would be canceled. I am thinking, “Oh no! This is our only night to see this. Please, no rain.” It really was like a wide spread sprinkle – just every once and a while you would feel a drop or two. The time came and the show started! YIPPEE!!! It was of course, fantastic but it did start to rain…getting a bit more consistent and a bit heavier but the show went on.

My DD loves this because of her love affair with the Mouse. Every time Mickey came on stage or did something dramatic she would yell & cheer. :teeth: I was a little disappointed with the ending - when the boats come around. Only 2 boats came around one with Belle and another with Snow White. The finale (all the characters) happened on the rocks. It was still very good and we enjoyed it immensely but I did miss the boat with Steamboat Willie. DS loves the B&W Mickey so he was a bit disappointed also. After the show I asked a CM about that and was told the boats were being refurbished and would be out for a week or so.
disneysept06-489.jpg

disneysept06-488.jpg

By the end of the show the rain was coming down rather hard. We had not used our ponchos yet so we opened them up to wear. It was a surprise to all of us when DH opened his and it had a huge Gator on the front! GASP! :sad2: We are all GA Bulldog fans at our house so this is a terrible thing. I mean really terrible. I had no idea when I purchased them that one was a NCAA poncho! He wore it with a smile :teeth: even though he was secretly steaming mad. We all put on our ponchos and we soon decided that it was way too humid to wear those. I really think I would rather be dripping wet with rain than wearing my own personal sauna. Oh my gosh! How do people stand it? Too humid for me. My only concern was protecting my camera. Soon we were on the bus heading back to POP.

Side note: My idea for a perfect WDW would be if they could air-condition the outdoors and monorails went everywhere. Someday…

It had really been a long day and once again we are ready for bed but I had other plans. Laundry!!! I really had no other choice because we were running out of shorts. We did not pack enough clothes because of having to change some days twice because it is so blasted hit and humid. I had planned and packed supplies just in case we needed to do it and it really isn’t too bad. I only did 3 loads…enough to get us by!

Doing laundry in any public place is just a hoot…don’t cha’ think? I am blessed to have my own washer and dryer at home so this isn’t something I experience on a regular basis. It was a very popular place to be…perhaps because of the rain. I did notice that people are very possessive of their washer/dryer. Another thing I noticed is a lot of men do the laundry at WDW. This one guy had washed his son’s things and did not check the pockets. You guessed it…the kid had left what appeared to be a half box of Kleenex in there and it was everywhere. Needless to say I avoided his washers like the plague. Major mess!!!

I did meet and talk to a few really nice folks while there and it really didn’t take to long. Here is a few of my tips for laundry. I pre measured some laundry detergent into small snack sized ziploc bags and brought along several dryer sheets and then I store all of these in a larger Ziploc. This eliminated paying the high resort prices for laundry detergent and it is very convenient and it doesn’t add much weight to your suitcase. I also brought along a stain stick and each time we changed clothes we would pretreat any spills or stains and this worked great. I found a collapsible laundry hamper for just a couple dollars and it fit perfect in the suitcase. We used this as our hamper and when I did the clothes I used it to carry the laundry back and forth to the room. Next trip I will bring 2 of these because they are not really large enough for a weeks worth of laundry for a family of 4. I did see some other folks using their suitcase to carry laundry to and fro which I thought was a very clever idea also.

When I arrived back in the room the kiddos were already in the bed. DD was sleeping looking like an angel. I was definitely ready for some magical dreams myself. :cloud9:

Tomorrow it is back to AK for DD to ride EE…but will she come through? :confused3 Also, dinner at my favorite non-character place…Le’Cellier…yum! TTFN

:woohoo: first!?

thanks G-Max for the nice photos and interplay. :goodvibes

ANd thanks for the new installment, Cherekeemamma. Great! :yay: :yay: Hope everyone is feeling well now in your family! I love those crazy employees and characters, that are working for Disney.

:cool1: An update! Thanks for another great installment. I had to laugh at your Justin's reaction to the birthday song. My oldest DS is a Justin too, and also loves being the center of attention - I don't think anything embarrasses that child.

I have never seen Fantasmic, but would love to - I just can't get my family interested enough to want to get there early and wait. Maybe next trip :sad2:

Sorry you and your DS have been so sick, stomach bug is the worst. Ganglion cyst are so annyoing. I have one on the top of my wrist and it comes and goes, very strange. They say if you smack it with a bible it will go away. I have never done that though. Still loving your report and all the pictures. :)

YAY!!! She's back! :dancer: :rockband:

Glad everyone enjoyed my installment during her absence, but now we have the real thing!

CM, loved your pictures as always, especially the food porn . . ooooh . . .

I had reservations for Prime Time, but had to cancel becuz of The Tea. Hopefully I'll get there next time!

Glad you got an explantion about the Fantasmic boats. I was REALLY disappointed when I didn't get to see them. Hopefully they will be there the next time I go (either Sept. or Dec. 2007).

So sorry about the health issues in your family. Hope that things will get better the closer we get to Christmas!

Looking forward to your next installment!

You're back! You're back!

I have missed your installments!

I am sorry to hear about you and your family being under there weather! I hope everyone starts to feel better real soon! :goodvibes

Happy Holidays to you too!! :yay:

I'm happy to see that you're back. Great installment. We also love 50's. Great pics of the Fantasmic show! It's so hard to get a good shot there!

YAY!!! Thanks for the new installment!!

I LOVED eating at 50's PT! (It was best because we were there with a bunch of high schoolers!)

Can't wait for more!!!

I just had to add that my REAL birthday is 9/12 !! We were at the parks at about the same time I was there from 9/15-9/18 Happy Birthday to US!!

Very nice trip report! I'm pretty glad I found it yesterday because I didn't have to wait for any installments (yet) ;) Thanks for sharing!
TK

Welcome back cmamma :wave2: Can you tell you were missed?!

Great installment :thumbsup2 Y'know, I'm pretty sure I had Uncle Dale as our server once, too. And you're right about needing to "go with it" at 50's PTC; my mother just wasn't into it when we went and it was a major bust. :sad2:

I'm in complete agreement with you about some needed improvements at WDW (i.e.: AC and monorails throughout). And I'll add that they need to pave everything with that spongey, recycled-tire, playground flooring.

Hey, Welcome BAck!!! GREAT PICS....don't leave us waiting too long please!!

Thurs. Sept. 14

We had visited AK on our first full day and tried the entire day to get DD to ride EE. At one point she had agreed and when we headed back to EE we discovered the coaster was broken down with the train headed up the first hill. We had heard that everyone had to walk down from the hill that day. I didn’t actually see them walking but all that talk didn’t sit well with DD. It had increased her fear. During that first day at AK all the CMs kept reassuring her that if she could ride RnR and Dinosaur she would enjoy EE. We had left AK that first day before EE was up and running again so she never rode it but wanted to go back and do it…so today is the day.

We arrived at AK right at opening and started into the entrance. All of a sudden I realized my kids were talking to a palm tree. That’s right a palm tree. What a hoot! One day it’s a trash can and now it is a tree. People are gonna start talking. Well, we all started laughing and the tree asked me to give it a hug. You guessed it…I did it!!! I hugged a tree in public. A talking tree at that! Then the thing started calling me names like “tree hugger”. Does anyone know this tree’s name? I just called him Palm for the rest of our trip. So we said our goodbyes to Palm and headed into the AK. Parting is such sweet sorrow.

disneysept06-289.jpg

Today we would be celebrating DH’s unb-day. We stopped at guest relations to pick up a birthday pin for DH and to get our certificate for a free 5x7 on EE. We then headed straight to the Safari. Great!! There was hardly a wait at all…less than 10 minutes. The safari was tons of fun but the driver hardly gave you a second to take a picture. I found that to be extremely frustrating. I know that you guys will never guess what happened. Our jeep helped to save ‘Little Red’ (a baby elephant). I couldn’t believe we got to be part of something so important and exciting at WDW. hehehe

disneysept06-297.jpg

We got off the safari and headed to EE. DD was saying “Yes! I will ride it”. We got there and she started to change her mind…again. We told her this is it. We will not be able to come back here so if you want to ride it; now is the time. She finally said OK I will do it! We went straight into the line and right up to the train without a wait. She was hesitant but got on anyway. She screamed her tiny little head off but she loved it and wanted to do it again. We got back in the line and rode it again and again. DD and DS loved it. They rode on every section of the train. I think they decided they liked the back best for speed. During our time at EE we met Yeti Man. He is a local guy who has rode EE 1000’s of times. He wears a sock hat (even in 90+ degree heat). We all decided he must have waaayyy to much time on his hands.

disneysept06-303.jpg

disneysept06-300.jpg

By this time it was getting close to lunchtime so we decided to eat once again at Tusker House. All of our food was very good. We all had chicken sandwiches, FF and chocolate cake. YUMMY!!! After leaving we stopped to watch the dancers for a moment and next thing we knew DH was up there shaking his booty. We were laughing and laughing because DH doesn’t dance and when he does dance…well, let’s just say it isn’t the greatest. (no offense dear) They had picked him and this other lady from the crowd and told them they were going to celebrate their B-days African Style. It was really so fun and DH really had a great time. You will notice by his pictures that he really did have fun although he was somewhat embarrassed. He thought we put the guy up picking him but we did not. I think we (myself, DD, & DS) were just as stunned as DH. It was a lot of fun and made a great memory.

disneysept06-310.jpg

disneysept06-312.jpg

We were walking down this walkway heading back toward the entrance when my DH said, “Did you say you wanted to see a lady dressed like a tree?” I said, “Yes, I think her name is Devine.” My DH elbowed me and said, “Well, there she is!” I couldn’t believe it. Devine. What an amazing and strange character. How do you think they auditioned for this role? I took a couple of pictures and just watched her for a few moments. She began walking and all of a sudden her leg fell off!!! I really don’t know why but I felt badly for her and her handler. I guess I felt embarrassed for her and it did spoil the magic a little. I was thrilled to have seen her nonetheless.

We headed back to POP for a little rest and then onto Epcot for dinner at LeCellier. We arrived at POP to find them washing down our building. It was quite a wet and soapy mess. Not really any kind of inconvenience but it was messy and very slippery. DS fell down and his leg was really sore for a while. I do not blame WDW for this because I am sure it was due to wild behavior more than the soapy walkway. We wondered over the bridge that will be going toward the Legendary Years section of POP. It will be a huge resort when it is all finished. I wonder what the plans are with that? I didn’t see any type of activity there at all. Does anyone have any idea why they stopped contstuction?

We did have a nice rest and headed back out around 4’oclock to Epcot. Epcot was great …very little crowds and the weather was great.

disneysept06-313.jpg

disneysept06-318.jpg

We saw a few characters on our way to the WS. We did have a wait of about 15 minutes once we arrived at LeCellier. Our waitress was Erin and she was fantastic – very friendly, informative and very personable.
disneysept06-339.jpg

Our dinner was excellent. DS had the salmon appetizer (sorry I do not remember what it is called), DD had a side salad, I had the César salad and DH had shrimp cocktail. DD had a frozen cappuccino drink. DS and I both had the steak with cream cheese mashed potatoes (delicious) and DH had the steak with mushroom risotto, DD had the child’s steak with melon and FF. We then forced ourselves to have dessert. Haha DD and DS had the chocolate moose. They both loved it! I had the maple and vanilla crème Brule. (it was okay, not my favorite) and DH had the celebration cake (very good, but very rich). I really do love this restaurant. Our server told us that the beef is shipped in from Canada. I am a steak lover and I think this place is great. We have eaten here twice, once in '05 and this time. I highly recommend this rest. I am always confused when I see that others have had a bad experience here because both times we eaten here the service and the food were outstanding.

After we left Canada we walked around a bit exploring some of the countries. We headed into England and found the location where all of the Pooh gang hang out. I couldn’t believe it when I saw Rabbit. Oh my gosh, I was so excited. My DD knows that I just love all of these guys. She was so excited for me to see them. She said, “Kiss Pooh Mommy, Go ahead and Kiss Him! Kiss Him!!!” What is a mommy to do? I kissed him. Oh gosh, I do love Pooh!!! The kids got autographs and everyone was especially excited to get Rabbit’s.
disneysept06-343.jpg

We stopped to listen to a Beatles look/sound alike band (sorry, did not catch their names). They were really good. We headed up towards Future World to ride TT and MS (wimpy version). We watched most of Illuminations as we walked out. As I sit here typing this I try to remember just how tired we were and I cannot even come close to remembering that worn out feeling from eating too much, laughing all day and literally walking all over the world while having the time of your life. (I cannot wait to go again. I only wish I had found it years earlier.) Although you are tired through and through it is a wonderful feeling from a wonderful day. We got back to POP safe and sound but oh so tired. We are sleeping in tomorrow!!!

Up next DTD, failed attempts at Beaches and Cream, and DD sees dead people
