I am seriously impressed by the amount of posts about losing weight just to go on FJ! Yes, there are some that just want to ***** about the requirements but overall I think I see a positive trend unfolding. That's a good thing.

Keep up the good work! :thumbsup2

I printed out a picture of the seats for inspiration. It's going up on the door of our fridge. I need to print out another and attach it to my Health Rider. :lmao:

Where did you find a picture of the seat? I want to do the same thing :thumbsup2

If people find FJ inspiring that's good but people shouldn't HAVE to go this route if they don't want to.

If it wasn't for wanting to fit on Rip Ride Rockit, Harry Potter, and Dudley Do-Right's, I'd let myself be a huge heffer. Hey, everybody's got their something.

In regards to dieting,

Yes, I am fat. Yes I probably wouldnt fit. But I CANT fit due to my bones.

Got any ways of shaving shoulder joints?

Honestly, some people on other topics are just black and white.

"Oh, they should accomodate fat people."

"Stupid fatties, they should put down the burger. Go lose some weight fat people!"

and,

"all people who cant get on are fat!"

Sure they never say it, but its what they're thinking.

Dont they realise that some people cant fit on not due to their own fault but genetics?

Honestly, this comes across as rude, but after some of the comments I have seen on the other HP topics (not this one) I am dissapointed and annoyed at the maturity of some people.

Yes, it is good that there is genuine admiration for people losing weight, but I've had it with the condescending, rude attitude exhibited by other, slim people. Its like a teetotaller telling a drunk he should give up drink, just like that. You havent been there! You dont know what it is like!

/Rant.

Sorry, I know you may be genuine and if so, its admirable. I just wanted to use this topic to speak out against the patronising people who just say "lose weight."

I am actually going on a diet anyway. Not that I'll be able to fit on...

EDIT: WOW. I guess I needed to let off some steam.

Sorry, OP.

No experience, no right to comment!

Someone who shares an opinion that doesn't match with yours, doesn't have anything to do with their lack of maturity. It's just their opinion.

Also, saying that people can't comment on something unless they've experienced it themselves is just silly. I've never done Heroin, gone drink-driving or shot someone. I can still have a negative opinion of them.

I've lost 22 pounds in 10 weeks to prepare for my upcoming trip, and still want to lose another 15 pounds before October. That doesn't make me more entitled to an opinion on weight loss than anybody else on these boards.

My opinion is that there is no such thing as being 'big boned', and I have no time for people who say "It's my genetics!!". The simple truth is that if you consume less calories than you burn each day, you WILL lose weight. You cannot cheat science, only yourself. This is the advice that every doctor and dietician in the world seems to offer, and I am in agreement with them.

That's my opinion anyway :)

Well, I don't even have a trip on the horizon but I have started cutting back (I don't want to say "dieting" or I will self-sabotage!). Based on what I have read, I'm going to have to lose at least 25-30lbs to make sure I don't get humilated by not fitting in the seats when the time comes. I always fit okay on the Hulk and Duelling Dragons, but I understand the seats on FJ are less forgiving.

WWOHP will be the sole reason for the next trip, and it would be horrible to go all that way and spend all that money and not be able to ride. If our finances turn around in the next 6-7 months, we might be able to make a short trip the last week of January. The kids have exam week then and we might be able to arrange their schedule to write everything in the first couple of days, and then we could go for about 5 days.

I should be losing weight for the health benefits...but really, FJ is my inspiration. Whatever works, right?

Here ya go...

I'm trying to lose because everyone on this board is freaking me out about the possibility of not fitting the seats on FJ. And I have a week till my trip!!!!!:scared1:

I wouldnt have minded if they had just gone with the "Its the mechanics. THey have to set limits. Maybe try to lose a few pounds" instead of the whole "you are ruining it for everyone else. just shut up and go on a diet. why should they accomodate people who dont fit in a certain bracket." route. That was why I said they were immature, not because of their views.

And there is such a thing as big boned, skeletal structure has no relation to weight. Ever heard of Edward Longshanks? 13th century english king, so called because he was tall, and he was not fat (he was a warrior too). Its not all to do with junk food. Look at neanderthals. Not fat, just short and wide. Fat has no bearing on chest size in men ('cept for moobs.)

Thank god that he died before FJ opened, so that he didn't have to spend all day on the disboards listing the reasons why Universal hates him!! :rotfl:

Be honest. People don't tend to say that they're 'big-boned' if they're talking about their height. They use it to refer to being overweight. That is what I was refering to. Also, having a larger skeletal structure will make you weigh more than a person of average height, but wouldn't mean that you were necessarily overweight. That is dependant on your body fat percentage/BMI. :)

I don't know why but wrestlers just popped into my head maybe because Universal has a wrestling show. Many of those guys are quite fit but probably wouldn't fit because of height or muscles. It's not just overweight people that might have problems.

In this day and age, saying that "Calories In, Calories Out" malarky is as outdated as saying that cigarettes give you energy and pep. If you are truly interested in the scientific research regarding obesity, the libraries and internet are full of information.

You are exactly right. You cannot cheat science. But you're not talking about science; you're talking about looking at someone's appearance (or looking at what number of pounds they list in one of their posts), and deciding that you have a right to judge them and their lifestyles, instead of taking the time to check into the "science" of it. Without knowing anything about them, you have scientifically determined what's wrong with them.

If you've got an opinion about obesity, it's a good idea to figure out what you're talking about before you decide to insult a bunch of people that may already feel pretty badly about themselves.

Guess I will tell my 6' 8" inch husband that he is just fat not big boned and that is why he can't go on this ride.

Well, I checked in with my doctor and a dietician 10 weeks ago before starting my weight loss plan, and this is what they advised me is still true. I think considering that both of them would have had to study for many years to become professional health workers, and would surely keep up with modern developments, they would be the best people to take advice from rather than an "I read it on the interwebz" guy. There is a lot of false information on the internet regarding weight loss, some of which can be downright dangerous. I would always recommend that people seek the advice of their doctor before considering weight loss.
