I'm booked for Sept,, 2nd time at POP but still loving all this info!

Quick question about what room to request..

I'm pretty sure we've decided on the 50's section, but should we request overlooking the pool or a lake view? Is it that much difference in location? Cant you see Illuminations from the lake view side?

TIA.

If you ask for an Illuminations view with your lakeside request, you will be able to see it. Some lakeview rooms would be oriented the other direction.

Well all of this great information and all of the nice things everyone on this thread has to say about POP has convinced us to stay there on our next trip instead of our usual POFQ. With the three kids DD12 DD4 and DD1 we thought it would be more interesting and fun for them to stay at POP, so thank you to everyone for all the great info.

I'm not sure if this question has been asked so I'll answer a question I didn't know I needed to ask. That is: how does Pop respond to a medical emergency?

We were at WDW in January. On the next to last day, January 22nd, we hit the parks for the morning but my DW wasn't feeling well and decided to go back to Pop for some alone time and rest time. We had just finished lunch at Teppan Edo, one of my favorites since I used to live in Japan. After she left I park hopped to MK for the afternoon and evening. I had a great time solo and ate too much dessert, specifically a Dole float ... another favorite ... and a cinnamon roll from the Main Street Bakery, yummm!!! I watched Wishes from the Noodle Station Terrace and headed back to Pop as the park was closing.

We were ready for bed by 10:30 or 11:00. I have sleep apnea and use a breathing machine. I was also taking a pain med to deal with the exhaustion and help me sleep. Sometime after midnight I awakened to my DW's screams. Apparently I had sat up on the side of the bed and had taken off my breathing mask then lay back across the bed flat on my back. I don't remember doing that but that's where I awakened. Let's not say "awakened" ... let's say "came out of a seizure". I had been rigid and unresponsive with my eyes rolled back in my head and I was gasping for air. When I came to I was in a cold sweat and the room was spinning around me.

My DW called 911 and requested assistance. In minutes the night manager knocked at our door and assured us that the paramedics were on their way. Soon they too arrived and checked my vital signs, heart, pulse and temp, oxygen saturation, blood sugar. They told me all my vitals were okay but that they would be glad to take me to the hospital if I requested. I'm too much of a Disney commando and decided that I didn't want to waste my last day at WDW sitting in an emergency room. Since i felt okay the next morning we completed our last day, admittedly at a slower pace. Oh, that morning the front desk called to check on us.

Since returning home I've had several doctor's appointments and an MRI, an EEG, 24 hour heart monitoring and blood work. The doctors can now tell me that I do have a brain, they have photos and that it is completely normal ... I was hoping for at least above average. The only consequence of my seizure is that I am prohibited from driving for 6 months after my seizure.

I tell all of this to commend POP for the quick response of the nighttime manager/supervisor and the paramedic team as well as the front desk. I regret that in the confusion I didn't get their names. I can only say "thank you" to the paramedics and supervisor who were on duty before dawn on January 23rd. Thank you!!!!

I look forward to another visit to POP but I hope that's one experience I never have to go through again.

This is going to be a weird question but for those of you who have stayed at other resorts -- does the lobby of POP have "that smell" you know, that disney hotel lobby smell? I know its weird, but the resorts i've stayed in (POR, POFQ & WL) all have that same scent, and I can't get enough of it! I honestly look forward to it each time I go to disney!

LOL! I have never noticed a smell anywhere. I have visited some of hte other resorts too, but don't remember any smells. Maybe there is a nice smell that you associate with good times there.
I did notice at GF's lobby that it smelled of flowers.

I know it has been asked before about the Arcade at Pop WEll I finally found my notes on tickets!!
$1 - 50pts
$5 250pts + 25 bonus pts
$10 - 500 pts + 100 pts
$20 - 1000 pts + 250 pts
$25 1250 pts + 750 pts
It all goes on a card that you use on the games!
Hope this helps!!

Are you talking about that dewey/musty smell? I think that every place in Florida has that smell. Although I found it to be less strong at the Disney resorts vs offsite.

And can you purchase these cards before you get there? I would like to as a surprise gift?

Glad you were OK! Nice to hear how great Pop was. I had read before how great they were in an emergency. It is really reassuring to hear as I often go alone with my children.

I don't think so as it is a machine you put the money in and gives you the card!! But it wouldn't be hard to send someone over to the arcade to get it while you were checking in!!

I know exactly what you mean. And yes, Pop has that certain Disney smell. I noticed it as soon as I walked into the lobby last December. Can't wait to smell it again. Come on 60 days.
