Hmmm...realized I need to update my signature - I guess I have gotten older!:rotfl2: (actually, I had a different screen name but cannot seem to access it, so I'm using one from a couple of years ago...)

Just returned from trip 2/3-2/9. Stayed at Pop and wouldn't do it again. Now, I must admit, we had toddlers which ups the difficulty but, nothing was convenient about the pop for us. Rooms were fine, service was fine. The problems were the amount of people. Lines, lines, lines...... Before you say that is just Disney, we visited other Resorts: BC, WL, CONT. none were having the same problems. Your walk to the bus line will be the longest at every park. Your wait will also be longer. Then the scooters..........

Handicap vs. Lazy you decide for yourself. Please wait to see for yourself before you judge the comment. Handicapped individuals deserve all the special treatment they get, lazy people do not. I found it bothersome that a
person on a scooter would drive to the front of the line and take about ten people travel with them all the way to the front. First of all, why cant they wait in line and get the special treatment when it is their turn? Why do all of their party go to the front with them? And them see over half of them get off the scooter and walk on the bus pretty normally. Granted I had been carrying my daughters for about a half hour at least by this point but I still think I could see things pretty rationally.

Just look at the turnstiles, deeper rows than any other. Look at the lines when parks are closing at night. They are the worst. Food court was the same way. Much like a college cafe at lunch time. Everyone for themselves. Someone used the word vultures, kind of fitting. If you children or you can fend for themselves, this might not bother you that much. But don't plan on going anywhere in a hurry.

Smoking areas are also located just outside the doors so you will walk by it everytime if you are in the 50s or 60s building. That is a little unnecessary. Or located on a walking path to the rooms. Get them out of the way. I don't want to have to smell someone's smoke.

The Walmart comment: You typically get what you pay for... Some love Walmart, they will probably love the pop. Good for somethings not good for everything....I realize now that I didn't pay for convenience. With toddlers the convenience is worth more than what i paid.

All I have to say is wow, your commentary is rude. :( I hope no one in your family EVER needs an ECV.

I disagree, I don't find her comment rude at all. I think she worded it quite proper. I agree that every and any handicapped person deserves to use an ECV so they can have the oppurtunity to enjoy a disney vacation with their family. BUT, I also believe that there are people that abuse the use of EVC's.
There is a huge difference between needing an EVC and just using an EVC.

so what you are say Rooms were fine, service was fine. but all the lines were long . well that why we rent a car for easy use. I love pop. me personally don't see much difference between pop and POFQ except the pool has a slide and the room is a little bit bigger. I personally can see spending the extra money for a water slide and a couple square feet more room in my room. my 2 cents

The biggest problem I have with the comment was the "then see half of them get up and walk on the bus pretty normally"

My mother falls in that one half and perhaps that is why I take such offense. The rod and screws in her spine prevent her from doing a full day of anything and she is able to walk 'pretty normally' for SHORT distances. To make the assumption that the 1/2 that were able to walk on were lazy is outrageous. :(

I will shut up now, but I stand behind my comments and for the record, regardless of what you think about anyone in an EVC, remember they are in the realm of $30 to rent a day, so I sincerely doubt many people are "abusing" them.

You have misinterpreted what I was saying. I do think that it was abused by some. Those were questions also, not statements. Can they wait in lines? Do they have to take their whole party with them? Kinda like cinderella's slipper, if it fits wear it, if not pass it on.....Also, my wife wants me to clarify that this thread was written by husband not wife. thanks

not to get too off topic but i also agree some people abuse the scooters... but in every bunch of folks there willl be bad apples.......

getting your wife in to trouble useing her screen name

have fun:banana:

What was so inconvenient about the two toddlers? that scares me, lol. We LOVED pop with one toddler two years ago. She just adored the theming, the pool. It was just so disney.

Now the lineups weren't that long as I recall. We had one bad time coming home from DTD where there was some sort of delay but overall we were lucky. To dine at resorts we would hop on the FIRST bus that came along, wherever it may be going... then transfer from wherever it went to the resort we were dining at.. .worked great. in the am to go to parks we were up early and got to the busses and it really wasnt too bad.. other then the MK line which was usually fairly busy..
i hope it hasn't gotten a lot worse in the last two years.

btw the other resorts you compared to were deluxes... you are comparing apples to oranges :confused3

the comment about if you love walmart you will love pop was pretty obnoxious. We thought our toddlers would love the theming, period.

About the crowds/lines, it very much depends on the crowd level when you go. When it's not busy, Pop is fantastic, but when it's crowded, it's chaotic. You'll need to plan ahead and get going early.

We were there from Dec 16th through the 23rd. At the beginning things were great. Not a ton of people, short waits at the food court. We did go early, but not 6 am. Starting the friday before Christmas more people arrived every minute. The food court was nuts and it didn't seem like they could keep up with it. Staurday morning there was trash everywhere, no tables, long lines, etc. even at 9:30 am when we thought people would be on their way to the parks. We were just hanging out that weekend and seeing family, so we didn't care. I was so happy to be moving on!

If you're going to be there a peak time, plan for delays.

I'll agree with this part of your post, the smoking areas are poorly placed. Maybe send a comment to Disney through their website. The rest was pretty rude.

I think I will also send a suggestion to Disney about alternate smoking areas. They'll all have to be on a path somewhere, but the one between the 70s bldgs and the 70s/80s parking lot is bad because you can't go around it and there was usually a crowd there. They could move it to the other side of the path, further down by the lake.

The one near the food court is bad too. You shouldn't have to walk through smoke to get to the restaurant. We now have this problem in NJ. No smoking is allowed inside so many places have set up a smoking area just outside the doors. Convenient for smokers, but not pleasant for others going to eat.

Good morning POP Peeps!
Just poppin in (pardon the pun) to get in the mood for our trip comin up in May. We're staying off site for a week and doing Sea World, Discovery Cove, Aquatica, a beach, etc...But of course we can't come to Orlando and NOT stay at POP at least a few days. So we'll send DH home (sorry honey but one of us has to be responsible ;) ) and DGD and I will stay a few days & do the Disney Parks! :cool1:

Sounds like the parks and the resort are a little crowded for this time of year and POP is becoming more and more popular.

sixisenough - Sorry you didn't enjoy your stay at POP. If you're looking for people to agree with you, you've probably chosen the wrong thread to make your comments. Most who post here are pretty much POP lovers. And yes, we're aware of the sometimes crowded food court, long walks to the bus stop from the parks, etc.. We just ignore those little inconveniences because we enjoy the GOOD stuff so much. :)

Anybody else going in May?

Well I can understand your frustration. But, My DH is one of those who can get off his ECV and walk on the bus. He has 3 ruptured discs in his back and can not walk long distances. Sitting for long periods also causes him pain so he must get up and walk to get the blood moving in his legs again. There are many unseen disabilities and you never know nor can you judge them by looking at the person.
We (the rest of the family) will remain in line until it is our turn to enter the bus. If it looks like we can not board the same bus my DH will wait for the next.
I hope now that you see things with new understanding you will be a little more patient with those on EVC's.

We have never stayed at POP but hope our Sept trip will be pleasant and the lines short.

You guys are getting me so excited about Pop. I was a little nervous because it looks a little cheesy in the pix but I didn't have enough money for the resort I wanted so I chose POP.
I can't wait to get there.....9 days and counting :)

My family and I love POP because of the 'cheesy' factor. :lmao: Our favorite building is the Mickey phone (in 70's) because for me growing up, the ultimate in room luxury was to have one of these. It's pure cheesy fun 24-7 and we love it!

Enjoy your trip! :goodvibes

tinknme - :thumbsup2 You'll have a great time going solo! And you're going at a great time of year - great weather and low crowds, Flower & Garden Show at Epcot... We can't take DGD out of school now that she has gotten older or I'd be there the same week as you. Now it's the last week of May and first week of June. Crowds & heat I know - but I'll be at WDW! ;) And I'm hoping it won't be as bad as later in the summer.

BTW, re the smoking areas - Does anybody know exactly where they are all located? I've never experienced a problem at POP but I am allergic so don't want to accidentally walk thru those areas. TIA

Look on the first page of this thread and click on the link for the POP resort map. The smoking areas are shown on the map. You will need to zoom in some.

Thank you, I am really looking forward to this trip! I have never been to the Flower & Garden festival, so that makes it even more exciting :dance3:
