We leave in 2 days!!!

This may be a dumb question, but for the pools, can we bring our own stuff to swim with, like a kick board, noodle, etc???

I also called and requested 50's building 1... hope we get it!

Yes, you can bring your own swim stuff. They should also have swim vests for the little kids if you need them, and typically there are guest-use beach balls in the pools too.

50's building 1 is my request too! I like that spot.

This morning I learned the very sad news that one of our POP friends, Minnie Lor, and her husband did not survive the Joplin, MO tornadoes yesterday. Lorie was a long time DISer and wonderful friend of GKTW. She and her husband had just returned from a WDW anniversary trip on May 21st. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayer are with their family.

RIP Minnie Lor. Your smile will be missed.:littleangel:

Terrible news. My heart goes out to Lorie’s family as well as others who have lost loved ones. Tragedies like this, certainly brings to mind that we need to appreciate life every day, remind others how important they are to us and live life to the fullest.

If anyone is interested, there is a FirstGiving page established by another DISer ( Maroo) in Lorie’s memory, where you can make a donation to Give Kids the World (GKTW).

Hi, this is my first time on here and I am hoping to post this right! We are staying at the Pop 12/2-12/11 and are beyond hoping to avoid the Pop Warner crowd. I have been reading that they aren't much of a problem, but I have the luck to get the kids jumping off the bed repeatedly in the room above us or running the walkways or their older siblings hanging out right outside our rooms.

Would the best way to avoid them maybe ask for a lake view room? I thought maybe since it was a more remote area it might be quieter? I really don't want to be by groups or the pool or where they warm up the buses in the am. We can go preferred, just looking for advice. Thanks anyone and everyone!

The lake side rooms do tend to be quieter, but the pop warner kids don't stay at Pop Century, so that shouldn't be a problem anyway.

Jenny ~ the lake side rooms are not remote at all, most of these rooms are very close to everything. :) When we stayed during POP Warner we were in bldg 3 (Tramp), 50's lakeside both times. All the POP Warner kids were in the 50's (overflow and parents have resort options to book). Poolside rooms in all 3 50's bldgs were filled with POP Warner kids and we were very glad when they left 2 days after we arrived. BUT all we really heard was the cheering and excitement of cheerleaders when they got back at night.

We never encountered them in the food court or buses and in the parks just one evening when HS closed early for a private party for them. Your dates will be include POP Warner dates. If they do use POP again this yr, just ask at check in if they can put in rooms away from the group. :thumbsup2

Hey, Jen! POP Warner most definitely stays at POP! We've been there twice with them!:thumbsup2

Just wanted to second the opinion that the Pop Warner kids & families can sometimes stay at POP. They used to be mostly at the All-Stars. Not sure why but lately some have spilled over to POP.
I didn't think they would be a problem for us. After all, I was with a teen-ager myself and sometimes I think people exaggerate a little and unfairly give all teens a bad rap.
Well...let's put it this way. They are not bad kids-probably just the opposite in fact. But if you enjoy your peaceful 4th floor lakeside location at POP, you may be disturbed by their antics. And if you happen to be on the bus with a group whose chaperone allows them to cheer...well, you may learn to dislike all cheerleaders everywhere. I don't think they realize they are being noisy & rude - it's just that adolescent egocentrism thing. ;) A good chaperone makes all the difference.
Anyway, I don't think they will disturb you by jumping on the beds or running by your room. It's just that incessant cheering...:rolleyes1
I wouldn't say that I would not go at that time. It's a great time for all the holiday stuff & you won't be bothered by them at all in the parks. :thumbsup2

Hi, Everyone,

Kristineamb and myself co-host this FAQS thread. We must appreciate info about Lorie being shared, but would appreciate sending us a PM before posting, then we can put together one post with all appropriate information so it is not throughout the POP discussion.

Thanks so much!:goodvibes

I have never been to the POP so I don't know, I just thought maybe the lakeside rooms because they are behind most walkways, with rooms facing away from most of the action.

I wasn't meaning to sound like I was speaking badly of teenagers. I will have 2 there myself. I haven't encountered anything more than them hanging out late at night, in and out of rooms with the doors banging or hanging out in the walkways and talking right outside my room. If its not the teens involved in the competition, its their older siblings who use the evenings as a time for themselves. Nothing bad, just frustrating for a light sleeper and if I am running Disney, I will be exhausted and cranky for sleep. I really don't care if they are cheering or whatever they do, as long as I am not trying to sleep. My daughter was an all-star, I understand the cheering thing.

The jumping of the beds is that I seem to end up with a family with small kids above us and they don't catch their kids until SEVERAL loud thumps or just let do something like it. That is why we are asking for top floor.

Thanks for the input.

I don't think it's talking badly about the teens. It's just hard to be honest about the situation & make plans to work around them without sounding like you're beating them up. ;)

But I wouldn't want anybody to think they're never there, because sometimes they are and if they are they are doing what they do best. :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

They tend to practice their routines early morning and in the evening in any open area close to their rooms. I've heard people report that they've stayed in the 50s & 60s, but I've not heard of anyone saying they've stayed in the 70s. So your best request might be 4th floor, lakeside, building 6. I'll be there with them again this year, and that's what I'm going to try. Now don't take my room! lol

Thanks for understanding. Sounds like a good request to make. Hey, I won't take your room, we can be neighbors!! :thumbsup2

I was thinking about bringing my small coffee pot. But I think I've decided to just bring my creamer, buy a refillable mug and have at it every morning! We all want the day to start off right, don't we?!? :thumbsup2

This is the BEST way to do it!!! I really dont understand why some ppl make fuss about needing a coffee maker in the room when the food court has coffee every day! Plus with the refillable mugs, it couldnt be any easier than that. Do people drink coffee in the shower? :confused3 I dont get it. Lol! :lmao:

Do these groups come at the end of August? We stayed at ASMo once preferred room and the teenagers were so loud we couldn't sleep- had to complain to management. The group that was there (dont know where they were from) but there was no way the chaperones were watchng them. Does anyone know when they are there?

Don't know about other groups -- But free dining has been going on for a few years, and it usually starts mid-August thru September (I've been there for the last 4 years) and it draws quite a number of people. Could be you were unlucky. I'm lucky, I've never encountered any issues that you describe.

Just back from a really quick 2 night stay at Pop. We were in the 70's section, room 0331. We loved out location. A very quick walk to the buses and food court, and a quick walk to the Computer Pool. We were around the corner from the play ground, and just a little further down was the Goofy Fountains and the Hippy Dippy Pool.

The location of our room was very quiet. Our neighbors, however, were NOT!!! I had forgotten how paper thin the walls are at Pop Century. Every time someone nearby flushed a toilet or ran the water in the sink of shower, it could be heard. That wasn't anything, that anybody could help. The problem came with neighbors on one side who were loud with their voices. Then the people above them would bang on something that sounded metal. And these 2 rooms would keep it up.

I always bring a sound machine with me, but didn't think that I would need it in such a secluded area of the resort. Once those rude people started up, I got that out and we fell asleep to the sound of rushing waters and did not hear a boo out of them again!! We were so thankful for the our sound machine!!

The new mattresses were heavenly!! We all slept very comfortably!!

The pools were fabulous as usual. We were disappointed to see the Goofy fountains not operational the 3 days we were there. (Of the 5 times we have stayed at POP since it opened, it has only been operational 2 of those visits.

We only used the bus service once, and drove the rest of the time. I only waited for the MK bus for 10 minutes!! On the return back to Pop we waited 15 minutes and 2 busses came nearly at the same time!!!

Our next trip to WDW will be POFQ in Sept then another stay at Pop Century in December! We look forward to staying there again! It's our favorite value resort.

I think it was a group from a school that was in a marching band that played at WDW. I'm sure not all school's are like the ones that were there at that time. Like I said- whoever the chaperones were- they were not very good because when we complained they said they had already talked to them and gave us a refund on the preferred room. I'm sure the parents of those kids thought they were being supervised better (sad).
