I really only care about noise after maybe 11pm or so. If/when we go we'll definitely be requesting a 4th floor lake view. Any idea if that's hard to get in late January (the week AFTER mlk weekend?)

The week of MLK weekend is Feb break for many schools in the NE. It is known to be a busy weekend and week (meaning if you arrived the day after MLK it would be a very busy week).

If you meant the week following that, it would be quieter. :)

4th floor lake side is not a difficult request, but whenever you go, be sure to ask again at check-in if your request was able to be honored and if not, could they please check to see if there are any 4th fl rooms lake side available. Sometimes they give you a room that is empty, but if you're willing to wait a few hours then the room location you want may be available after housekeeping clears it for occupancy. :)

We've stayed in 4th floor rooms four times and the only time we ever heard noise was the one time we were bumped to a pref room location, overlooking the Hippy Dippy Pool. It was nice to be so close to the food court, but missed the lake view and would definitely request that again, should we return to POP. We had too many long weekend budget trips and am missing our favorite deluxe and moderates now. ;)

We stayed at POP last year, had a room (actually 3 rooms) right by the Hippy Dippy pool and we heard nothing besides showers/toilets flushing but I have gotten that at other hotels also and it was not enough to make me want to stay somewhere else.

MLK day is Monday January 18th, 2010. So if we went Wednesday 20th - Wednesday 27th...it would be a busy week?

Wed thru Sat would most likely be the busiest days as that is the week of Feb break for many NE schools. :)

The rest should not be bad, but the resort could be booked solid and the parks not too bad. We've gone the 27th thru early March and the resort was full, the parks busy, but not like summer.

Gone are the days of true slow seasons at WDW! ;)

I don't understand why schools would have a February break in January. I've also never heard of "february break." :confused3

Obviously the Minnie&Nana can answer this, but I wonder if she meant President's Day, which is always the 3rd Monday in February, instead of MLKJ Day that's in January. :confused3

I originally thought that. but I said "January 18th" in my previous post so I don't know.

Hello.. I read that check-out is at 11am.. Do they allow late check out? And do we have to pay extra? Thanks.

Sometimes they allow late check out you would have to call the morning of the day you check out. It would be only till noon at no extra charge if it's available.

I think the noise problem at the POP or any of the values depends a great deal on who is around you. We have had both quiet and noise-problem stays. But the fault of the noisy stay was the large group around us that liked to party out on the walkway/landing outside the rooms after midnight and their children that skateboarded around the walkway at 8 am. It truly sounded like a jet taking off in our room.

Unfortunately, any hotel can have inconsiderate people, but it is worse at the values because of the lack of inside hallways, among other reasons.

:guilty: My mistake..this ole brain was stuck on Presidents Day for some reason!!:guilty:

I'm sorry! You'll be fine the days you mentioned! Watch the calendar when it comes out for park hours so you can plan accordingly as some days some parks may close early.

It's been a crazy day here....so sorry for the confusion! :flower3:

Many schools in the Northeast, esp. MA, have a Feb vacation week, which is always the 3rd week in Feb...Presidents Day being the Monday. :)

Thank you, Kimberly, for saving me! :goodvibes

Ohh...okay. No wonder I was so confused. Haha.
We went about the same time in 2008 and didn't find it to be too crowded. Maybe a little more than we expected though. The Magic Kingdom was pretty crowded on a extra evening hour day. I wonder if that's common?

We now avoid the parks that have EMH and try to plan to go the following day - what a difference in crowds.

With a hopper we might do the morning EMH, but leave by lunch time and enjoy another park that evening. In th afternoons wwe like to etiehr visit other resorts or back to our resort for a little R&R from the parks..or go to another resort or park for lunch. :)

Midgehadley : I've only been to two onsite places ever in my life - POR and All star sports back in the mid-90's. So far POR is my favorite. I'm sure if we stay at POP, POR will still be my favorite. But I'm looking forward to trying out a new place.

I understand....
My comments about noise probably come from me being a tad spoiled by staying at deluxes and DVC resorts. Had I never stayed at these other resorts, I'd probably not notice some of the things I do at POP. So I'm sorry if some people here think I'm being unfair or whatever in my criticism of the noise. I see alot of people jumping to the defense of POP in light of what I've said in recent posts. But having compared alot of different wdw onsite resorts, I feel I can objectively give the opinions I have. But I feel like some may resent me saying so a little bit because it's something a little "negative" about POP which so many adore here on this thread. My apologies for that. I won't say another word about POP unless it's all positive I guess. I probably shouldn't even have mentioned anything about the noise issues we've had there. I'm not trying to burst anyone's vacation expectations.

:flower3: I really do hope you have an awesome time at POP Midgehadley. Sorry if my comments upset you---it wasn't my intention. Staying at new resorts is fun and exciting and sometimes even more reason to look forward to going to WDW than even the parks ;) :) :dance3:

I've been allowed late check-out up until 1 pm with no extra charge at : POP, POR, and WL. Maybe they changed it to noon ? It's been a couple years since I've requested it. I think it was 2006 or 2007 last ?

You are welcome to give opinions (positive and negative) about POP. It's always interesting to hear all perspectives.

I was not upset at all by your posts, by the way.

We now avoid the parks that have EMH and try to plan to go the following day - what a difference in crowds.

Initially EMH evenings at the parks can be crowded. But if you ride it out.....right after 9:30 pm'ish it really empties out once most of the offsiters leave. It can take awhile to empty the park out after the last fireworks. We had an AWESOME evening EMH at the MK on Sunday night (Feb 8 !). It was a ghost town. While not every single evening EMH is as good as this, we definitely feel they're worth it. We tried doing MK on a night when Epcot had evening EMH and the MK was crowded. So I guess it's hit or miss.

Here's some pics/video from that night. We love EMH's....but sometimes you just have to ride it out. We stayed until 12:30 am. It was initially a bit crowded, but between 9-midnight it really emptied out gradually.

On this video at EMH that night, you can hear my dh say something like "we don't have to go back to POP. We can just hang out here and help them clean the park", because we were having such an awesome time. Felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. The CM's around 10-11 pm, were letting people just stay at Big Thunder Mtn, and Splash and ride over and over.

Here we are getting funnel cakes in Liberty Square around 11 pm :

And in Frontierland/Liberty Square around 10:30 pm walking back from riding Big Thunder Mtn and Splash a few times in a row (you can see a few people walking around if you look really close) :

Sorry these videos and this photo is so dark. My Kodak Easyshare camera doesn't take the best low-light pics :
This is around 10:30 pm :
