Last week I spent 2-3 nights each in a value studio, standard, and savannah at AKV in order to see the differences, pros/cons of each type.
The AKL itself is beautiful, and the food offerings at Mara, Jiko, and Boma were great. A couple cons of the studios-first, lack of closet space-only an armoire in each, with half of it for housekeeping stuff.

Also, a little thing, but I miss the little ledge by the door at OKW and BCV-I always dump my room key there, and I didn't have anywhere to do that at AKL.

My first studio was standard. Nice pool view-

Also, it was the first room from the elevators. Probably the biggest pro, though, was that there was a nice bench area almost right outside my room where you could view Arusha savannah.

Cons-being right next to the elevators made it a little noisy. Also, it was on a corner, and the way the balconies were set up, it wasn't too private.

My next studio was a value. For a solo, I'd judge this a "best buy";) Yes, the biggest con for most people is that it's small. For one thing, next to the armoire in the standard and savannah studios, there's a nice little bench-not so here.

And I tried to take a picture of how there's very little room between the bed and the table, but I'm afraid the photo didn't come out well. The paper is there for size reference.

And I heard the CM tell someone that the sink area is smaller so I took a picture, but it didn't seem smaller to me.

In the value studio, the bed is right next to the slider, which I loved, but it may be a con for a light sleeper, since I overlooked the pool.

I thought the view from the value was gorgeous-

and I loved that I was again right near an elevator that went to the pool.

My last studio was a savannah view, on Arusha savannah. Supposedly, the sink area is bigger, but I didn't notice it-

Biggest con was that I was way out there, it was a VERY long walk to elevators (and some people think BWV's hallways are long? They ain't seen nothin' yet!). Of course the biggest pro here was the savannah view, and Arusha especially-

Oh-another con on all the studios I just remembered-the door to the toilet area is a real tight squeeze. Being solo, I confess I often left the door open! Thanks so much for bearing with me for this l-o-n-g explanation and pictures. If I can answer any questions, I'd be happy to.

Thanks for the pics so much. DW and I are going to AKV in a week (no kids :cool1: ) for our anniversary. You made me want to go sooner and stay longer!!!!

These pictures were really helpful. I've posted on the Resorts board, asking for more pics of AKL rooms. I wanted to first decide if I wanted to stay there & see if it was worth the money and secondly, I wanted to know what the rooms & views looked like. Nice work!

Thanks for the comparison. It's really cool to get a review from not only the same person but in one trip!

Which one would you choose next time?

Great post! It helps to see photos of each booking category.

According to the floor plans, the kitchenette and bathroom areas of the Value studios are exactly the same size as those in the non-Values. The size difference is in the length of the living/sleeping area. It looks like your photos confirm that!

Thanks for the pictures! The view from your value really is beautiful! The value studio that we had had a lot less room between the furniture and the thermostat. It was impossible to see the numbers or controls. Did you need to adjust the thermostat?
I agree that the bathrooms at the AKV studios that I stayed in are not user friendly...too tight.

Bobbi

PS. I was in a dedicated studio at BCV and there was no little ledge near the door to put the key on. I had to put it on the ledge by the microwave.

Thanks for the great pics and reviews! We are trying to decide on which studio category to choose for next June and this will certainly help!

This past week I got to see a conceirge studio, ours, a value studio and a Savannah studio. My observation is that AKV seems to decorate their rooms differently depending on where they are at.

Conceirge studio - Didn't have an a dresser cabinet, but it did have a closet by the front door.
Conceirge studio - Bed was next to the window.
Conceirge studio - View was savannah, but very obstructed, 6201, in the corner and the 6th floor has an over hang for all Savannah view rooms, Either it's purposely for privacy, if not, it's a negative to me as it blocks a lot of the view.
Value studio - Bed was away from the window, couch was next to window.
Value studio - Had the dresser cabinet
Value studio - Had a nice desk that the others didn't have.
Value studio - Had a Savannah view
Savannah View - Dresser no closet
Savannah View - Bed next to window.

So, I agree that Best for your Money is the Value studio. It offers decent views, pool or savannah and since your already opting for a Studio the smaller size was not noticeable to me.

Thanks

Thanks for the review. It was very helpful. We stayed at AKV studio savannah view in January. I forget which savannah we were on but it was a looooong walk from the elevators and I said exactly what you did about BWV's hallways, You ain't seen nothing yet!! We did love the savannah area, very quiet and a lot of animals. We will request to stay there again, if I can remember the name of the savannah.

Hey ScottakaMickey! I'm sorry we missed you last week at AKV. We were out all day the day you checked in and we checked out the following morning. We had the savanna view Concierge studio at the far end of the hallway from your room: room 6209. We had a wardrobe in our room, no closet, the couch was next to the sliding doors and the bed was next to the bathroom area (the "normal" studio layout). Since your studio connects to an HA 1BR, I'm wondering if that is why your studio had the opposite layout. Perhaps putting the bed near the sliding doors and the couch near the bathroom allows more room for someone to use a wheelchair in the room?

Re: the Value vs non-Value studio furnishings, we appreciated having that little bench with that big drawer in it. Because the bottom section of the dresser houses the pack'n'play, there isn't much space left in those four little dresser drawers for clothes. That large drawer in the little bench seat nearly doubles the amount of drawer space in the studio.

ETA: I just looked at the floor plans and I see that Concierge studio room 6201 has the connecting door in the living area rather than near the entry door. That is probably why the bed is over by the sliding door instead of next to the bathroom!

Thanks for the review and the great pics. I am glad to hear that you were happy with the value. DW and I will be in a 1 br value in July and it sounds like we have made a good choice.

Thanks for the review of the different categories of studios at AKV. All the views look amazing. I was really hoping for a savanna view for our dedicated value studio in December, but after seeing your value studio view of the pool and savanna I think i want that. Do you remeber the value studio room number? Thanks again.

thanks for the review the pictures are great

Thanks for the pics and review...I can't wait to stay at AKV:goodvibes

OP....did you have to wait long for your rooms....what time did you get in?
Thanks
Kerri

Which one would you choose next time?
Next time, in October, I'm already on the waiting list for a value studio. For one person, I didn't need the extra size of a standard (the main advantage) and I'd only stay in a savannah if I wasn't going to the parks. As Samantha Brown says, when I was at the parks, I'd get "homesick for my animals!"
