This was our 2nd cruise on the Dream & we had a great time on both of our vacays! I'll try to categorize everything.
DISEMBARKATION:
We had a port arrival time of 11:00 a.m. & we got the the terminal @ 10:50, parked, checked in, got boarding #4. Went straight to the kids' their Mickey Bands & out boarding # was already being called. They were announcing our names by 11:45! When we went in May, we waited in the stupid terminal for 2 hours before we boarded, but it is so fast now!
We had lunch at Cabannas then headed to explore all the kids' clubs. We had my sister's family with us as well, so we had 6 kids between the ages of 5-14. The kids had been to the Oceaneer Club/Lab, but we hadn't seen Edge & Vibe. They were all really cool & my niece & her friend loved Vibe! All the kids went back their respective clubs once they opened for activities & then again after dinner (we had late dining).
We had RP, AP, EG dining rotation & we loved it. I have to say I liked Animators Palate much more this time than when we went in May, but I'm starting to wonder if it's because both times I didn't enjoy dinner was on the 1st nite when the boat was moving really fast & I felt the motion more. We had larger swells because of hurricane Katia & eventually I just had to go lay down. I could see the veranda railing moving up & down about 6 inches at one time!
NASSAU DAY:
We decided to stay on the ship& went to the pools. It's been all good til now. At Donald's pool a mid 60's woman decides to wear the teeniest bikini I have ever seen. Practically a thong, then she decides to doesn't want tan lines on her top & precedes to take her straps down & so now she only has small scraps of material covering her chest.
She wasn't American & I understand that in other countries they are less modest, but this was just flat out inappropriate! I wouldn't feel so strong about this if she had been in the adult area or even on the upper deck area, but she was on the front line where all the kids were. Sometimes I wish that Disney would stress that this is a FAMILY cruise & that swimwear should reflect that. I felt like there was more skin being shown this time than in May & it was a bit ridiculous. What's wrong with a normal bikini that FITS? Gladly, the kids decided they wanted to theClubs so me & DH went to the adult pool & really enjoyed laying in the padded lounge chairs they have there. We had lunch & the other family members got back from Nassau & came to the adult pool too.
While we were all there, the UGLY happened. We are all sitting on the couches when all of a sudden we see this man picking his nose then eating what he found!
We were so grossed out, but couldn't contain ourselves. We were laughing so hard. I really had no idea that the fascination of eating your own boogers continued past the age of 3
!
Then we see this elderly man in what we thought was a speedo (no big deal), but it turned out was really underwear! I really didn't need to know that he wore Calvin Klein's. I know that they cover the same things, but come on, underwear is called underwear for a reason, you wear them under clothes. I was also concerned they were about to fall off him then we'd be on a totally different kind of cruise then
.
We then got all the kids & went on the Aqua Duck.
That night was Pirate Night so we saw the fireworks & danced. We showed the kids all our moves from the 80's & 90's! They played Thriller & I did my best M J impersonation, then me & my sis showed them the running man & the Roger Rabbit.
The kids laughed so hard, we all had a good time!
Then we saw The Help in the theater & I loved it!
CASTAWAY CAY:
The island was in great shape & I couldn't really tell that a Hurricane had just come over it a couple of weeks before. The water was much warmer than when we were there in May & we really enjoyed being there. It was so hot outside that it made being in the water almost a necessity. And the sun was so strong that despite putting on sunscreen 5 times in about 5 1/2 hrs, we all got burnt, even me & I don't burn that easily!
We did Pelican Plunge, snorkeled, did the whale dig & just had a fun day!
The bad was that my snorkel mask kept leaking & hurt, no matter what adjustments I made & the water was a little cloudy, which I attribute to the amount of people in the water kicking up sand. So I didn't snorkel as much as I wanted to. My husband went earlier in the a.m. & didn't have the issue with the slightly cloudy water like me. In May, the water was really cold so there wasn't as many people in the water then.
Once we were back on the ship, the kids wanted to go the clubs again, so they did that until dinner. We ate at EG, which I think is my fav. Then the kids wanted to go one last time to the clubs, which was a big help cause I needed to get the luggage outside the stateroom by 10:30. Then we took a stroll around the ship one last time.
We didn't see any shows this time because we saw them all back in May & the kids were more interested in going to the clubs anyway. I felt like we did a lot more this trip & I could tell because I slept the whole drive home from PC & most of today & so have my DD & DS!
So to recap, the UGLY: the nose picker & the guy in his underwear & our Mickey ear magnets got stolen off our stateroom door
The BAD: way too many teeny bikinis w/too much booty showing
The GOOD: me & my family had a great time on a great ship
After this cruise DH & I decided we would like to take a cruise perhaps on the Magic because 1st of all we want more time on the ship & we also would like to experience a ship with fewer people. It can be overwhelming sometimes being on the ship w/3600 passengers & sometimes the pool area was just crowded. None of this makes us not want to sail on the Dream again, but we definitely want to see what the other ships are like.
Hope you enjoyed my trip report & if you have questions feel free to ask!
