The Good, the Bad and the Ugly about San Angel's

We ate here for the first time last year and found the food to be only so so. We were also seated in the corner by the bathroom which was very disapointing since when you go to this restaurant you want to be sitting out in the main part where it is very romantic. When you go to a restaurant like this you don't expect to sit in a corner with no view except those heading to and from the bathroom.

Thank You for all the info. I will request a table near the water. Make sure I have a Margarita (or 2) order lightly maybe an appetizer and a dessert and enjoy the scenery.

I'm sure if I follow these few rules I will have an enjoyable meal.

We love the atmosphere, but the entrees we have had were not impressive. We go back nearly every trip & order the Queso Fundido appetizer, which is a Mexican sausage & cheese dish that the waiter wraps in tortillas tableside. We really love it! This and the chips with margaritas is plenty for the two of us. I also really enjoy the cinnamon-flavored coffee they serve (while DW has her 2nd margarita!).

we ate lunch here a couple weeks ago. Wethought the place was very nice, our waitress was very good and helpful, explaining what everything was. While the rest. is dark I don't think it's that dark to bother you.We had an appetizer [queso fundido for two ]that was delicius. I hadPOLLO A LAS RAJAS dw had PLATO MEXICANO both were very good. I think lunch cost about $50 ,but we were on a package that included meals.

We thought the food was ok. Not great, but ok. Atmosphere was festive and fun. My son liked looking at the volcano.

My family loves this restaurant. It's definately not a Chili's. I find the food to be closer to the authentic Mexican restaurants.
They have great Margaritas!
I never thought it was too dark once your eyes adjust to the light.

The queso fundido (appetizer for two) is wonderful. Don't get the Camerones Con Fideos - the pasta tastes like spaghettios! The mole pablano was so-so. But everything else I tasted was good. The plato mexicano was good, esp the beef burrito. And it came with black beans on the side with cheese melted over them. that was yummy too.

I think if you stay away from the "spaghettios" you should be okay.

I agree! Although last week we had a female server who just didn't do justice to the "Queso Fundido experience."
Previously, it has always been an experience just watching the waiter make the wraps by our table.
This server just plopped some of the mixture in a couple of the tortillas and folded them over once. Then she left the rest for us to do.
The salsa and chips are really good.
I'd be sure to arrive for lunch early and wouldn't eat there if I had to sit in the "waiting area".

Has anyone noticed that children seem to be more quiet and less antsy in this restaurant? Because it's dark, I guess.
It seems like that to us.

I loved San Angel. I've only eaten there once and it was for lunch. My 11-year old daughter was with me and she loved it too.

While waiting for our food, my daughter ran off to ride the boat ride by herself and play in the market. Mexico has the most kid-friendly shop - lots of little toys for them to pick up and touch. I stayed at the table, sipping my margerita and enjoyed looking around at all the detail of the restaurant.

I didn't get real adventurous with the food - I ordered tacos. My lunch was absolutely delicious and we had an attentive, friendly, server.

I recommend San Angel. Hope you have a good experience!

I agree also with the Queso Fundido suggestion! DH and DS shared this and of all the things we ordered, this tasted the best. I think margaritas and Queso Fundido would be perfect and although it's supposed to be an appetizer for two, if you ordered one for each person it would be a meal in itself.

We really like San Angel Inn, but I think there are better choices for kids. My parents took my brother and I when we were 10 and 8, and we were not impressed. I like it now as an adult, and we go almost every time. If you want a nice meal at Epcot, and you're okay with spending a lot on the meal, try the Living Seas! The tables are along the aquarium, and the kids can watch tropical fish and sharks as they eat. They swim right up to the table! That's a meal they'll remember! The food is overpriced, but it is a really memorable experience. Have fun!

:D We find the atmosphere to be really neat. If your grand children are young, and they think this is like taco bell, chalupas, tacos, etc., it is not. I guess what they serve there is real mexican food. As others have said, the food is not that great, but it's really cool eating there because it feels like your outside at night without the bugs and bad weather;)

Mamu

1st of all you are a wonderful grandmommy to take your babies - I only wish my son had someone as special as you!

2nd, we have never had a bad meal, bad service or bad margarita at San Angel - lunch or dinner.

3rd, yes the tables are a bit cozy but if you hold out for one by the water you get more leg room.

4th, as another post mentione . . . the Chicken Mole is to die for!!!!

5th, the atmosphere is great, the kids will think you grand and its only 1 dinner . . . . so have a great time and a margarita for me!

I guess it's all a matter of opinion because San Angel Inn is our favorite EPCOT Restaurant. Yes, it is dark, but IMO, that only adds to the romantic atmosphere. The closeness of the tables never really bothered me, maybe because due to the dimness of the restaurant I never really noticed it. They have the best frozen margarita I've ever tasted and DH and my sister both raved about the queso appetizer (I don't care for queso, so I can't say one way or the other). We've never had a bad meal there and although the menu isn't that of a typical mexican restuaurant, I think you can get tacos and such - I remember my sister had some sort of combination plate with a taco and maybe quesadillas that she enjoyed. The main negative would be the 'bathroom tables' mentioned by other posters. I remember when that used to be the waiting area and for that purpose, it was fine, but I'd politely ask for another table if they tried to seat us there.
