The good news: I've saved $2700 for my Disney vacation....

I like this idea, well......maybe not 40 gift cards though ;) Does anyone know if the Disney gift cards expire? If so how long are they good for?

my parents gave us one in 2007 when we were supposed to go to Disney and I just finished using it this year

No, they don't expire and don't have a fee for inactivity, that is one reason we love them.

OP, I couldn't imagine having 40 though. I wish they were more readily available at stores near us.

That is great :thumbsup2. I was thinking maybe if you have a bunch of disney store gift cards the you could take them to the store and make one big gift card, I know other stores have done that for DH before.

Have you tried looking in your grocery store ? I noticed that you're in Alabama.... I'm not sure if you have Kroger there, but in Mississippi our Kroger carries a huge display of gift cards and Disney card is one. You could get one there ( or at Publix if they have them there) and then call the number on the card to keep loading it w/ more money..... (I think Sams Club has them too)

We don't have a Disney store here so I either have to order one from the Disney store (and shipping is free) or grab some at Kroger. I'm kind of waiting until Ebates has double % for the Disney store or our Kroger runs a gift card promo again.....

Great job OP but did you know you could've just added money *as often as you wanted....

This reminds me of the time I was sent info on a rewards program from a vendor at my past job. All you had to do was sign up, and when you bought an item that they manufacture, you got a penny or percentage or some such tiny thing.

The "problem" was that I was the only one company-wide who read the form, filled it out, and sent it back. In less than a year, I had $1200 to spend on any Sony-made item due to the volume we purchased. I went to my boss, thinking he'd want to buy gear, and he said, finders-keepers, good for you for knowing how to read and let me keep it all.

They sent it to me in $10 and $50 gift cards. Ha-ha!:lmao:

I wanted to add that we wereable to use multiple cards to purchase our Annual Passes in Feb. We bought them in person at the International Gateway of Epcot, and I was given no hassle what so ever in redeeming about 15 cards of various denominations. Maybe you could use some for the room, some for tickets and maybe even a few for "spending" so that you aren't trying to use them all at the same time?:goodvibes

Ooooh I never thought to buy gift cards to buy our APs when we go next year. I think I'll start picking some up at the grocery store each time I go (along with asking for them for gifts!!).

Way to go, OP! That's a serious pile of gift cards that you have there!

Just a word of warning...do not toss those cards until after your vacation has ended. If Disney needs to make a refund to you, they will send it to the original form of payment. IOW...those many, many gift cards! You don't want them sitting in a recycling center if that happens!

BTW - here's a link to a post about combining Disney gift card balances onto one card

OP, were they all Disney rewards cards? I turned in US Bank Visa rewards cards at the front desk and they would only take 85% of the value off the card per day. I was told that was a Disney policy.

I am 30 minutes from the nearest Kroger, but when I am close, I will check to see if they have some. Our Sams, in Columbus, doesn't have anymore, I checked recently, and I haven't seen any in Publix, but haven't been in there in awhile, not since I can shop at our Commissary again.

Thank you for the ideas.

Thanks for the reminder! I do remember reading about this. I'm one who usually hangs on to receipts and every piece of paperwork, so I probably wouldn't have thrown them out till long after our vacation anyway, but I will make sure to keep them in a safe place.

Yes, I have all Disney gift cards. Either they were bought with cash, bought using store gift cards (like using a Walgreens gift card to buy a Disney gift card), bought with Visa/Mastercard giftcards or they given directly to me as gifts. And, what a strange policy! Why wouldn't they take the full value of of the Visa reward card? Did it have a Visa logo on it? Shouldn't it be treated exactly as a regular Visa card?

I actually paid out of pocket for very few of these cards. The majority of these cards were rewards that I redeemed from various cashback/survey sites (i.e. Sunshine Rewards, MyPoints) or were bought using store gift cards that I had received for transferring prescriptions etc.... Really I only bought cards out of pocket when my grocery store had special offers, for example buy $100 in gift cards and get .40 off per gallon of gas...So it's not as if I have just been putting my cash towards gift cards. Any extra cash that I had (from garage sales, selling on Craigslist, etc...), I actually put into my ING vacation savings account to earn the interest :thumbsup2

They no longer combine Disney gift cards. Tried recently and they said they no longer do it, because all the Disney locations can now take multiple cards. Guess they only combined before, because some places couldn't take more than 1 card.

I think taking the time to call and have them combined would take the same amount of time to apply them all to my account balance anyway. But this is good to know.
