I just read something and saw a picture about a ghost at Hampton Court Palace. What's the scoop on this over there? Is it a fake?

It's all over the news programmes here. Hampton Court is supposed to be haunted, it certainly feels very spooky in the older parts. As for the ghost, I'm very sceptical, there are a lot of people who work there in costume so maybe it's one of those.

We'll have to be sure and take one of the tours offered at this Palace!!! Wonder who we'll see:eek:

The tours are very good but are limited in numbers. Be sure to get your tour ticket (I don't think there is an extra charge for these) once you are inside the palace. The audio tours are also very good.

There is one place where you stop and the guide tells you that a ghost is often seen there - it certainly made me shiver although we didn't see anything.

(If you're travelling independantly Hampton Court is about 30 minutes out of London. You can get a train from Waterloo station. The station at Hampton Court is just across the river from the palace, just cross the bridge and you're there. It is a very easy journey and well worth the trip. You could easily spend 4 or 5 hours there if you decide to do the tours.)

I saw the photo in a paper on the plane coming home - I thought it was someone closing the doors wearing a clear plastic mac and the movement and bad light had blurred the photo and made it look spooktastic!

Thank you for the tip on the tour. We did (more like me I think) want to see the palace & go on the tour. By train, do you mean the Tube?

Thanks for help - Merry Christmas

Happy Christmas to you!!

No, the tube only goes as far as Wimbledon in that direction so you'll need to get the mainline service. It's a direct service from Waterloo which makes quite a few stops, but you won't have to change so it is easy. If I remember rightly there's a train every half hour. Hampton Court is the end of the (short) line so you can't go too far.

(You could get the tube to Wimbledon and pick up the Hampton Court train there as the tube and mainline share a station at that point, but I think it would be easier to go from Waterloo.)
