The flood is coming...

DS's wedding will be in New Orleans in November, so we're helping out the local economy!:goodvibes

:thumbsup2

I would love to grab a little BWV resale contract. Havne't stayed there but went through all of the photos on Allears last night  and if it's half as neat as it looks, I could live there!

We are in New Orleans now ... eating out (yummy!) ... and doing touristy things!

Activities we've especially enjoyed:
***** (5 stars!) Oak Alley Plantation Tour and Restaurant
***** (5 stars!) Audubon Park and Zoo. The zoo is a total bargain at $10.50 for Seniors, $13.50 for Adults!
*** Natchez River Cruise & Lunch
***** Crossing the river by Ferry. Always a thrill! I never get tired of this simple treat.

Restaurants:
***** Brennan's on Royal Street. Highly recommend their Shrimp Victoria!
***** Oak Alley Plantation Restaurant. Their gumbo was the best we experienced this trip!
***** Landry's Seafood House on Lake Pontchartrain. We made a meal of three appetizers and two desserts for our table of 4 adults.
***** Pere Antoine. This is becoming our traditional "first meal" in the city!
** Deanie's Seafood. Portions are huge -- our group of four split a "half-order" of the seafood plate and a small-order of soft-shell crab. We rolled out quite satisfied.
* Rocky & Carlos. Setting is family-casual; portions are huge -- consider sharing a few selections with your entire table.

Today's agenda:
Visiting family, the Aquarium & Imax and Cafe Du Monde.

Tomorrow's agenda:
Riding the streetcars ... lunch at Camellia Grill

On our list for "next time":
- Laura's Plantation
- Johnny's Po-boys. (Just couldn't quite squeeze it into this trip!)
- Court of Two Sisters

Recommended Grocery in the French Quarter:
***** Rouse's Market on corner of St Peter & Royal. They even had Creole Cream Cheese and Creole Cream Cheese Ice Cream (my Dad's favorite)

Thank you for visiting!!! We hope all of you enjoy our unique state!

bwvBound, we've enjoyed quite a few of the places you mention! Thanks for the list, we look forward to trying more.

What about us in the Ala. gulf coast. You could stop and stay at a beach condo or hotel on your way to DW and help our sluggish beach economy. The beaches are still pretty and BP is working hard to clean up any oil or tar balls daily to keep them pretty. Great stopping point on your way to Disneyworld.

The big spill has just turned the rest of the Gulf Coast into Galveston.

Don't miss Cafe du Monde Beignets!
Tell 'em DVC sent you!

I live in Orlando now but am from Metairie, La. Most of my relatives still live there or in Slidell. They were quite fortunate and made a bundle off of Katrina from getting money from the government, off their insurance policies, free grants, etc. Only one family now might be facing a challenge with the oil spill ( works for Haliburton) but so far, so good. I'm sorry for those facing tough times.---Kathy
